1. Prepare Long Before Your Launch
Astronauts prepare for years before their launch. As an author you must begin your
book launch preparations at least 4-6 months in advance.
2. Take Advantage of Your Available Resources
Mark Watney woke up alone on Mars with a HAB designed to last 31 days, and resources
that were not meant to last much longer.
Instead of complaining, he made the best of his available resources.
Authors must adopt this mindset and make the most of what they have. A successful
book launch doesn’t require a ton of resources.
3. Create a Way to Communicate With the World
An early turning point for Mark Watney is when he first makes contact with NASA on
earth.
Once he is able to make contact he can begin sharing his survival plans.
Your successful book launch relies heavily on your ability to communicate with your target
audience.
A few effective methods are: email, blog, social media, podcast, speaking engagements, guest posting, old fashioned letters and networking
events.
The bottom line is this: if you can’t find a way to communicate with your target
audience before your launch, it will be a fail.
4. Find People Willing to Help Your Cause
Plans to save Watney take a turn for the worse when NASA’s supply shuttle explodes
during launch.
With too little time to build and launch another shuttle, NASA must find outside
help.
The Chinese came to the rescue and offered their fully-built and ready to launch rocket.
So, who can help you with your book launch? The answer is simple: influencers!
Influencers are people online that have the ability to sway their audience.
If you can find the right influencers to recommend or promote your book, it will help
your launch immensely.
5. Cut the Dead Weight
When the day comes to leave Mars, Watney launches in a MAV stripped down to the bare
essentials.
Cutting all non-essential weight made it possible for Watney to successfully connect with his crew and
return home.
An easy way to increase your chances of a successful book launch are to cut
unnecessary costs.
The first proven way to cut costs is to find affordable ways to promote your book. Here are 20:

The second proven method is to pay less to sell your book. With EditionGuard you can sell eBooks for as
low as $24/mo.
6. Know That You Can Accomplish Anything
The Martian is a captivating novel that proves anything is possible.
Andy Weir created a best-selling book as an independent author with very little
resources.
So, we leave you with this question:If he can do it, why can’t you?
