MISSION and VISION

Pursuing spiritual and academic excellence with Christian families by going the second mile.

TMA ATHLETICS – 3 Year Initiatives1. Raise the Bar2. Grow the Body3. Create Community

Page 3: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

RAISE THE BAR

We believe student-athletes will reach for the goalsset before them. It is important that we set achievable goals while pushing them beyond their perceived limitations.

IRON EAGLE – “as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

Focal Point: Humility in understanding where we are and where we want to be. Philippians 2 demonstrates the humility of Jesus, yet He was the greatest leader of all time and Savior of the world.

Page 4: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

GROW THE BODY

We each have a role in the growth and progressionof our athletic program. Everyone buying in to their role fully equips the body to function at its greatest capacity.

Focal Point: Numerical Growth, Physical Development, Stature1. We certainly want to see an increase in participation if the student-athlete

understands initiative number 1 – Raise the Bar2. We are establishing a strength & conditioning program as well as a nutritional plan

for all student-athletes.3. Stature – At TMA we will focus on WHO we are as much as WHAT we are. State

Championships won’t define us. Our Character will define us and winning becomes a by-product.

Page 5: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

CREATE COMMUNITY

Philippians 2“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

SERVICE LEADERSHIP is an emphasis within TMA Athletics

Page 6: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

INVERTED PYRAMID

Similar to a pyramid business model, we invert the paradigm for how we SERVE. Flip the pyramid upside down.

If I serve two people, they each serve two, they each serve two and so forth, we serve exponentially. Eventually, someone will demonstrate God’s love model to me, but my goal is to start back at the bottom of the pyramid.

Spiritual Integration

Caps & Chaps ProgramSimilar to how a coach selects a “captain”, our coaches will select a team “chaplain”. This chaplain will be connected to the Director of Christian Life and be given tools to assist the spiritual culture of their team.

Service ProjectEach team will be expected to carry out a service project. This can be a reoccurring project such as delivering gifts to the children’s hospital, working with a food shelter, retirement center, or hosting an event for a cause such as “Pink Out.”

A Healthy Athletic Program

1. Leadership – oversight by varsity head coach2. Communication – established from building relationships3. Professionalism/Class – partnering with NIKE4. Qualified Coaching Staff – proficient in sport and spiritual leader5. Physical Development – partnering with SSP6. Feeder Programs – connecting with middle and lower school teams7. Facility Enhancements – nice facilities at TMA but always evaluating8. Summer Camps – exposure to non-TMA families and player development9. Parental Support – everyone supporting each other10. Performance – gradual expectations from lower school to varsity

Page 10: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Lower School Teams

TMA offers multiple opportunities for students to participate in athletics and intramural games.

Each varsity head coach will work with the Assistant Director of Athletics (over LS) to organize participation that directly feeds the middle school and high school teams. This is a great opportunity for students to learn the Eagle Way, work under the guidance of our varsity coach, and develop skills in preparation for higher levels of competition. More importantly, students learn how to develop a proper attitude in both winning and losing.

Page 11: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

LS Local Competition

Instead of traveling across Orlando, we will be competing against local schools in the Oviedo area. In addition, a majority of the games will be played at TMA.

Soccer, Basketball, Track, Flag Football, Volleyball, Golden Ball, Cheerleading, Bowling

Page 12: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Middle School Teams

Middle school is developmental. While teams may participate in league play and certainly compete to win, individual development is stressed as a priority. As scripture encourages, we will strive to do our best at all times and that certainly suggests winning as a result of our best effort and our increased development.

Page 13: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Are you in 5th grade?

NEXT YEAR IS YOUR TIME!

We want you to compete in our athletic program. Check out the website for information about participating as a 6th graders. Some options are:Volleyball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Swimming, Soccer, Basketball, Cheerleading, Baseball, Softball, Track&Field, Tennis

The more participation we have, the more middle school teams we can offer and support! Let us know what you want to play!

Page 14: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Who will we play in MS?

We will be scheduling Home and Away games or playing locally.

We are not scheduling league play where we have to travel a long distance to play every game.

We want home games. We want local games. We want FUN!

Page 15: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Junior Varsity Teams

The junior varsity level is preparatory for varsity; for the purpose of training underclassmen prior to their varsity ranks. When participation numbers allow, we will provide a JV schedule.

Page 16: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Varsity Teams

At the varsity level there is an increased influence to win. While that is not our sole purpose, there is certainly intentional training towards a successful outcome. We want to compete for championships at the district, regional and state level.

Page 17: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

PLAY MORE THAN 1 SPORT

TMA has approximately 300 high school students. We need student-athletes to play multiple sports. Our coaches will work with you to ensure that you aren’t overburdened and having to participate in 2 sports at the same time, but participation is key for the growth and success of our athletic program.

So many sports are becoming dominated by the clubs. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to represent your school!

Page 18: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Can you get recruited?

One myth is that student-athletes can’t get recruited from small schools. Contrarily, at a smaller school, you have the opportunity to play a greater role within the team and as a leader.

TMA coaches can assist with the recruiting process and help point you toward realistic goals. However, most of the recruiting exposure doesn’t come within high school. Club programs are beneficial for self-promotion; high school sports allow you to compete at the state level for your peers.

COMMITMENT

Student-Athletes are students first and must meet the academic standards outlined through FHSAA and the TMA handbook. As successful students, athletes will be expected to train as a team through the season as well as maintain the physical training necessary during the off-season. Weight room, open facilities, summer team camps, and other opportunities are a part of team expectations. We also encourage multiple sport participation (national studies show academics improve with multi-sport athletes), and the in-season sport takes priority. TMA coaches will work to coordinate schedules. Please work with your coach to coordinate trips, doctors appointments, vacations, etc.

Please see the Statement of Commitment at www.tmaathletics.com/forms

Page 21: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Discipline

It is imperative that our students are representing their team, the school and Jesus Christ well. Most decisions or performance come back to two R’s: Respect and Responsibility.

If your child is struggling in the classroom and not fulfilling the expectations you have for them, let our coaches help. Sometimes we quickly “pull” them from sports. Consider allowing sports to change their behavior. It is often a good motivator.

Page 22: The Master’s Academy EAGLE ATHLETICS Orientation What you need to know about TMA Athletics

Vacation?

As our program grows, more involvement takes place during the summer months. We understand the importance of family time and vacation and certainly want to encourage that. Depending on your sport(s), they tend to get busier during certain parts of the summer. So to accommodate everyone and give our athletes a break, we are implementing a “dead period” around July 4th holiday. The week before and the week after, take a break!

Exceptions are made by the AD only. An example might be team camp with limited availability.
