The historical meets the hysterical in this fun theatrical opportunity. Flying through the major points of America’s quest for independence, this fast-and-loose comedy plays like a highlight reel of history in hilarious fashion! We will both laugh and learn as patriots such as George Washington, Paul Revere, Samuel and John Adams, Patrick Henry, and Benjamin Franklin battle the vain King George III and his British soldiers. From the Boston Tea Party to the Battle of Bunker Hill (did you know it was really Breed Hill?!), to the crossing of the Delaware and onward to the British surrender at Yorktown, students will receive valuable training in the performing arts. A full scale production will be shared on the afternoon of July 3. Under the expert guidance of MAHC’s Children’s Theater director Dawn Kolden, students will become part of a theatrical team, allowing them to exercise their skills in following directions, being self-sufficient, working with others, and monitoring their behavior. Dawn is a gifted director and teacher, holding a masters degree in teaching.

2. Oaxacan Animal Folk ArtJune 24, 25, & 26 10:00am to 12:00pmAges 9 to 12 $48 McCall-Donnelly High School Art RoomJoin beloved artist Kay LaBella for an artistic journey to Mexico! Kay will guide students through the process of drawing an animal of their choice, designing unique patterns and colors. Then using wire, newspaper, aluminum foil, tape, and cardboard students will create a frame over which they will form papier mache sculptures. After the papier mache dries, sculptural surfaces will be smoothed with sandpaper and painted. Students will also create descriptions of the creative process as well as the folk symbolism of their animal. Kay LaBella is a retired Art and IB Science teacher, as well as a mixed media artist and published illustrator for the book Bright Star of Palmer Lake. She received two Teacher of the Year awards in Colorado Springs and is a valued creative contributor to the McCall community.

4. Crochet Fantastic Flowers!June 25 and 26 11:00am to 12:30pmAges 8 to 12 $36Keep Me In Stitches, 136 E. Lake St.In this fun class, our local fiber maestro, Lynda Vrgora, will banish summer boredom by teaching students how to crochet. Under Lynda’s tutelage, students will craft enchanting and colorful crocheted flowers which can be used in variety of ways to embellish clothing, hats, bags, blankets, backpacks, etc. Cost includes high-quality project yarn and a crochet hook to take home. The class will gather around the cozy work table at the Keep Me Stitches studio, enjoying a cool and crafty break from summer’s hottest days.

5. Jewelry Fun with Metal & StoneJune 25 and 27 1:00pm to 3:00pmAges 10 to 14 $42McCall-Donnelly High School Art RoomJewelry-making with Melissa Hamilton was such a popular part of our 2019 Art School program that we decided to offer it during the summer, too. Students will learn both design skills and hands-on technical skills in this class under Melissa’s expert guidance. Wire-wrapping, metal cutting, and working with various metals and stones will be covered, as will design concepts such as movement, symmetry, and balance. 6. African Mask-making, Picasso StyleJuly 8, 9, & 10 10:00am to 12:00pmAges 8 to 10 $48McCall-Donnelly High School Art RoomYoung artists will love this opportunity to sculpt 3-dimensional masks using papier mache. Experienced educator and artist, Kay LaBella, will guide students through the process of mask-making using an additive procedure upon a cardboard base. Students will begin by drawing and designing their masks, then cutting and gluing the cardboard foundation. Color and design will focus on the use of both organic and geometric symbols. Papier mache will be used to add depth and texture to the cardboard sculpture and, once dry, will be painted to match design sketches. A brief writing about the process and the symbolism used in the mask will be

created by each student to accompany his or her mask. Kay LaBella is a retired Art and IB Science teacher, as well as a mixed media artist and published illustrator for the book Bright Star of Palmer Lake. Intro to Visual Marketing: Photography Camp for Young EntrepreneursJuly 8 through 12 1:00pm to 3:00pmAges 10 to 14 $92McCall-Donnelly High School Computer RoomThis week-long camp allows students to explore the many applications of photography in the market place. Students will learn multiple creative and marketing skills, including the elements of photography, basic design, and the introduction to PhotoShop as marketing tools to “sell” a favorite product, idea, skills, organization, or business. Students will go through the process of creating a marketing idea and then implementing the project to GET THE STORY OUT THERE. Photography basics will be highlighted along the way. The final project will be a poster, a print, or a brochure created on the Adobe PhotoShop platform. Instructor Pam Benham works as a professional location photographer throughout the West for a wide array of corporate, editorial, and advertising accounts. Pam has taught at Boise State University, the College of Southern Idaho, and most recently designed, launched, and taught the College of Western Idaho’s firstphotography classes. Students will play with a variety of paint types to explore color, consistency, and the magic of blending colors and making shapes. Young artists should come prepared to get a little paint on themselves as well.

9. Drama Camp 2019: ShrekWhat Makes Us Special Makes Us Strong! July 15 through 19 9:00am to 12:00pmAges 7 to 14 $98McCall-Donnelly High School Multipurpose RoomCome explore the twisted fairy tale world of Shrek with Pinocchio, Peter Pan, the Big Bad Wolf, Princess Fiona, Donkey, and lots more! We will create characters, sing and dance songs from the Broadway version of the show, learn about stage presence, character voice, embodying characters, acting and reacting, all while making new friends, having courage, and sharing our special strengths! There is room in drama camp for the experienced young actor, as well as the first-timer - everyone will get a part & everyone will have a moment to shine. A performance for family & friends will be presented on Friday at 11:30am. Students should bring a water bottle, snack, and comfortable gym shoes that will stay on their feet each day (NO FLIP FLOPS, please) and wear comfortable play clothes. Taught by favorite Creative Campus veteran, Mary Jensen, Artistic Director of Treasure Valley Children’s Theater.

Paper Arts & Printmaking ImmersionJuly 15, 16, & 17 1:00pm to 3:00pmAges 10 to 14 $48McCall-Donnelly High School Art RoomStudents won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the age-old arts of paper-making and print-making with not just one, but TWO talented professional artists - Deb Yensen and Amy Nack. On Day 1, students will learn how to make paper. Amy and Deb will teach printmaking using gel inks on Day 2, printing onto the hand-crafted papers. Then, on Day 3, students will be guided through the binding of their prints into a book, learning the art of simple book-binding.

11. Nifty Summer KnittingJuly 16 and 17 11:00am to 12:30pmAges 8 to 12 $36Keep Me In Stitches, 136 E. Lake St.Summer is a great time to learn how to knit! Join zany local yarn maestro Lynda Vgora for an introduction to knitting. Students will beat the heat as they meet around the table at the Keep Me In Stitches studio, where Lynda will teach the basics of crafting hand-knitted goodies.

Students will complete a unique knitted phone case during the class and will receive a set of knitting needles to keep and take home to further exercise their newly-discovered skills.

12. Mythology Camp 2019: Stories from Ancient IndiaJuly 22 through 26 9:30am to 11:00amAges 9 to 13 $58McCall-Donnelly High School Art RoomHindu myth, with its blue and many-armed divinities, can seem overwhelming and confusing. Just beneath this exotic surface, though, lies an exciting world rich in heroic epic, iconic gods, and familiar themes - a world which also provides a window into Indian geography and culture. Myth camp time will be spent exploring classic stories and creating culturally-linked hands-on art projects related to our stories. Come meet Vishnu, Shiva, Kali, Durga, Ganesh, and many others! Instructor Tracey Kindall is MAHC’s director and also teaches mythology at the North Fork School and BSU’s Osher Institute. She holds an MS degree in Folklore from the University of Oregon.13. The Art of Lettering:Fun & Funky Letters, Italic, & Brush LetteringJuly 22 through 26 1:00pm to 3:00pmAges 10 to 14 $86McCall-Donnelly High School Art RoomJoin Bonnie Glick, local calligrapher and artist, for a weeklong camp exploring three different letter forms. Students will learn how to draw versals and create funky and lively letters and words using watercolors and zentangles. Students will also explore formal Italic lettering, a script originating in the 1500s, using a broad-edged nib as well as lettering with a brush. Instructor Bonnie Glick is a calligrapher and artist trained in Italic, Copperplate, Uncial, and Gothacized Italic lettering. She has been a member of the calligraphy guild of Idaho - the Idaho Inkspots - for many years. She attends the international calligraphy conference every other year.

14. Acrylic Painting for Budding ArtistsJuly 29 and 31 11:00am to 12:00pmAges 6 to 9 $38McCall College, 106 E. Step Up to the Plate: Heroic Stories of Famous American WomenAugust 5 through 8 10:00am to 12:00pmGirls Only, Ages 9 to 13 $64McCall-Donnelly High School Drama RoomThis unique class offers tween girls the opportunity to explore significant social issues through the lens of theatre. Students will be guided by experienced educator and MAHC’s Children’s Theater director, Dawn Kolden, as they do a dramatic read-through of the play, Step Up to the Plate, written by Jaclyn Kalin and Dale Stein. This outstanding play empowers girls of all ages to pursue their dreams and see the obstacles in their way as challenges, not impossibilities. Through discussion, girls will connect, gain appreciation for the power of theater, and explore unique and common social stressors. Instructor Dawn Kolden holds a masters degree in teaching and is currently the librarian at Donnelly Elementary School. Dawn taught healthy boundaries and healthy relationships through the dramatic arts across southeast Alaska for ten years before moving to McCall.

16. Masterful Painting with Acrylics August 5 and 7 11:00am to 12:00pmAges 10 to 13 $38McCall College, 106 E. Park St., Suite 212In this class for young painters, professional artist Nettie Kaye Williams will introduce the principles of shape, tone, and color to guide students through the creation of a beautiful acrylic painting on stretched canvas.
