Praying for Rain...

There is nothing more basic to our physical existence than water. Our city leaders are alarmed, as we all should be, over the water levels in our lakes. There are measures that all of us can take to conserve wa-ter without having to wait for a cue from our city leaders. Simple things like shorter showers, less or no outside watering, and making sure we do not have leaks.

Praying For Rain (Continued)

We also need to be praying and asking God for rain. By praying, I do not mean that we employ “techniques” that have “worked” in the past. God is not some di-vine genie at our beck and call. He does not respond to incanta-tions and sorcery, even if they are punctuated by “In the name of Jesus!” We as believers need to humble ourselves before the LORD and recognize that He and He alone is able to provide us with rain, and with anything that we need. We simply ask because He alone can give us rain. “Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, O LORD our God. There-fore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.” (Jeremiah 14:22) There are times that God sent famine and drought to force people to repent of their sins and return to Him.

“'I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not re-turned to me,' declares the LORD. 'I also withheld rain from you when the harvest was still three months away. I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another. One field had rain; another had none and dried up. People stag-gered from town to town for water but did not get enough to drink, yet you have not returned to me,' de-clares the LORD.” God always wants us to acknowl-edge Him, to turn to Him for every-thing. For us never to forget Him. We need water, we need rain. We need to humbly ask the Lord for His gift of rain.
