Hoarders. .. The show “Hoarders” is probably one of the most frightening shows on television. The horror began at the front door. It was partially blocked by debris. Once inside, the crew was welcomed by more clutter on the hallway. Then their faces grimaced and they instinctively covered their noses. The source of the over-whelming stench that assaulted their nostrils was the refrigera-tor. It was covered with maggots. I had to turn the TV off. When the TV crew filming the show first pulled up in front of the house, the house looked nice enough. Looks can be deceiving. Continued on page 2...

Hoarders...

We, as a church, have a spe-cial role we can play in the life of the college students that are part of this church by investing in them on a personal level during their time here. One way you can do this is through adopting one or more of our students this se-mester. Adopting a student would mean you would be willing to do the following: At least once a month

feed your student (either in your home or take them out with you/your family)

Perhaps opening up your home for them to do laundry

Involving them in family activities (movies, game nights, etc.)

Inviting them to sit with you on Sunday mornings

Doing something special for them around testing times

Check up on them during the week with a call, text or email.

In general, the idea is to be willing to be involved in their lives over the course of this semester. If you are willing, or you have questions, please call me at 325-227-1778.

Most believers look nice

enough on the outside. We know how to speak the ver-

nacular. We dress properly. It is probably safe to say

that most believers are not guilty of the “Hoarder” type

of sins like murder, rape, etc. Jerry Bridges, in his

book Respectable Sins, con-fronts us with sins with

which we have gotten com-fortable. They are not obvi-

ous “clutter” in our lives, but they nonetheless hinder our

walk, and they are a stench

to God's nostrils. “Respectable” sins like in-

gratitude, discontent, pride, anxiety and frustration, self-

ishness. And prayerless-ness.

When the Israelites realized

that they sinned against God by asking for a king, they

pleaded with Samuel to pray for them. Samuel's re-

sponse was to the point. “Far be it from me that I

should sin against the LORD

by failing to pray for you.” (1 Samuel 12:23)

We normally do not think of

prayerlessness as sin. But it is clearly sin. God com-

mands us to pray, so to not pray is rebellion against

God. Prayerlessness is also our assertion that we are

sufficient to ourselves, and we do not need God. Asa

was a godly man when he started out as king of Judah

in his youth. But he forgot

the LORD, his God. When Israel threatened Judah, Asa

sought the help of Aram. Hanani, God's prophet con-

fronted Asa: “Because you relied on the king of Aram

and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of

Aram has escaped from your hand... You have done a

foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.” (2

Chronicles 16:7, 9) Then later in his life, “Asa was af-

flicted with a disease in his

feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he

did not seek help from the LORD, but only from the

physicians.” (2 Chronicles 16:12)

The LORD said, “Call on me when you are in trouble, and

I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” (Psalm

50:15)

God calls us to pray. Indi-

vidually. As families. As a church. Two of the least at-

tended events in our church

are Wednesday night Prayer Meeting, and the Men's

Prayer Breakfast. I want to challenge you to come and

pray.

Our Office Computer is Sick!

UPDATE ON FLOODING

DISASTER IN PHILIPPINES

The official death toll from tropical

storm Washi, which destroyed en-

tire villages and the two port cities

of Cagayan and Iligan on December

16, 2011, is 1259, but many more

are believed to have been buried or

washed out to sea.

Meanwhile, another 26,000 are liv-

ing in overcrowded evacuation cen-

ters (gymnasiums and schoolhouses)

in Cagayan and Iligan, while another

200,000 are living in makeshift shel-

ters or with relatives.

Due to the generosity of our College

Hills Family and Concho Area church-

es and individuals we were able to

wire $7460.00 directly to Cagayan

Bible Church for them to use in help-

ing those effected by this disaster.

Victoriano Kapayo, 30, buried two

drowned children after the flood,

and said he was haunted by a third

child, a 6 year old daughter, who

remains missing. “I feel she is still

alive. I see her in my dreams,” he

said at the gymnasium where he and

his wife are sheltered. This story is

multiplied over and over again in the

aftermath of the flooding.

Please continue to pray for those on

the front lines as they distribute

needed supplies and share the Gos-

pel.

Last week the office computer went “haywire”. Several programs and a lot of data were lost.

We have recovered most of what was lost with the excep-tion of one of our most vital programs and the data it con-tains. Our MembershipPlus Program with all our member-ship records and contributions!

The computer is in the “hospital” and hopefully the com-puter docs will be able to cure what ails it and return it to 100% with the restoration of all the missing data.

Until that time we will be unable to issue any end of the year contribution receipts. Thanks for your patience!
