Implementing MicroStrategy for the first time
2011 - Project kicked off to implement MicroStrategy to replace Legacy Datamarts and Cognos cubes
Data integrations, Enterprise DWH and reporting system implemented all at same time
Focused on the Planning and Marketing teams
Source Data Sales focused from the Back Of House system and Franchisee data files
Development completely outsourced to third party systems implementer
Mixed results
Integration and DWH seen as successful
Reporting not seen as meeting the requirements

Improving the perception of the Data in the Microstrategy reports
Critical bug fixes

Project - Better Information Available Sooner (BIAS)
Scope to deliver Operational Data to the Field based resources
With the right application in place, the focus now on adding further content to drive value in wider areas of the business.
Data integration was a potential bottleneck, and we wanted to ensure the EDW was scalable and sustainable.
7 different sources systems with 5 suites of reports and dashboards
ERP GL data – P&L Reports and Dashboards
Drive Through timers – Speed with Service Reports and Dashboards
Payroll System – Resource Utilisation Reports
Guess Experience Survey, Back of House System (Inventory and Team Member Hours), Customer Service Hotline System and Operational Surveys – Consolidated Reports
Area and Store Business Scorecards

Lessons Learned
People do not always like change (This is why I talked about the KFC Culture)
Switch the old system off as soon as possible
Acceler8 framework and Data Vault
Quickly integrated new subject areas into EDW to support Agile BI delivery
Monitoring and re-startability part of the solution
Future proofed the solution for changes to the source systems and addition data requirements
There will always be changes, apply business rules as late as possible when integrating data. Keep BI agile
Ensure you are ready before you start
Development/UAT environment issues
Know your data, or find someone who does, there will always be something you are not expecting
Lock resources for the duration of the project

Fixed time and budget
Variable scope
Release and improve
Partnered with Analytics 8
Used consultant experience to show best practice
Quick upskill within internal team

iPad Proof of Concept (cont’d)
Learnings
Everyone will have an opinion
Get it out quickly
Keep it simple
User Feedback
Annotation and note sharing
Access the information on the move. It's there when they need it
Increased user adoption
