Can You Help St. Vincent de Paul? The St. Vincent de Paul Society hopes you and your family and friends are well and safe. We hope you have everything you need to carry you through this difficult time … shelter, food, clothing, and household essentials. Many of our neighbors do not. Can you help us help them? We are in dire need of volunteers at our Food Pantry as well as facemasks. We also need donations of gently used clothing, linens, kitchen and household goods. With the closing of our two Mission 27 Resale stores, we also need your financial support. Our drive-through food pantry is helping almost 1,000 families each day and increasing rapidly. Many of us will be receiving a check for $1,200 from the economic stimulus package recently passed by the Senate. Some of us may not need this money. Some of us may want to give back to the families we serve. Can you help? Please take a moment to go to our website www.svdpindy.org for more information on how you can help us help others. Please pray for St. Vincent de Paul and the people we serve. We’ll be praying for you, too.

Dear Parishioners:

We continue to ask God for protection against the coronavirus and we continue to take precautions by following the state, local, and archdiocesan directives. The staff at the parish is doing everything

possible to ensure a safe, healthy environment for our worship and our parish life.

I ask that you pay close attention to a document entitled “Things to Know When You Come to Mass Inside.” This document is posted on the website and included in the bulletin along with the Weekly Plan. This document will be updated as we continue to reopen.

Please note that we are scheduling Mass, confession, and devotions week-to-week. Your best source of information is what is published on the website www.stbindy.org.

May God bless our nation in these most difficult times. May God keep you safe from physical and spiritual harm.

God bless,

Fr Mahan

What else is there to give when one has already given away one’s body and one’s life? What more can one say or do to demonstrate love for another when all one had has been given to another? This total giving of self to loved ones cannot be trumped by flowery words or material gifts that are fleeting. This is the ultimate in love. This is the love Jesus had for us on the way to his Passion, at the institution of the Holy Eucharist. This is the love he has for us daily in the celebration of the Mass on altars in every church, in every city, in every nation on earth. No one can give more. No one can ask for more. This is the true heart of Christian stewardship.

If you take the time to gaze upon your God in the simplest of forms and begin to reflect on what has actually taken place with bread and wine becoming the presence of the Divine, then you can begin to understand true humility, sacrifice, and love. And when you have the privilege to take that Real Presence into your body at the meal where you are an honored guest, you become one with the One who is the embodiment of stewardship.

Then, you must ask yourself, “How can I even begin to reflect the love that I have encountered at this feast?” The answer is you can begin with the simple actions of the day: where will you go, whom will you meet, and in what work will you partake? Jesus Christ has shown that the greatest gift ever given can be disguised in this world in a piece of bread. By joining your body to his, he can now transform human hearts, not by grand acts, but by everyday acts, by everyday people, practicing Everyday Stewardship.

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

Outreach MinistrySherry Meyer is a lay missionary from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis who has been working in Arua Diocese of northern Uganda for over 28 years. She grew up on the southside of Indianapolis, taught at Roncalli and was principal at St. Roch For the past 18 years she has worked to established a Catholic radio station for the diocese which has now been broadcasting 15 years in English as well as several tribal languages on three (soon to be four) frequencies.

St. Barnabas parish has supported Sherry for many years through the Outreach Ministry. Each time you share your treasure with the parish, the parish shares a small part of that with ministries such as Sherry’s in Uganda. Sherry is working to develop a new site for the 4th radio location. This new site does not have a water connection and she has asked us to assist in getting them hooked up with water.

Because of your generosity to the parish we are able to grant this request. Through the radio station they are able to share the Good News of the Gospel with another area of Uganda. THANK YOU for your commitment to stewardship.

The Outreach Ministry team meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. New members are always welcome. Contact Connie Merkel at [email protected] for more information.

To learn more about Sherry and her ministry find her on facebook at Sherry Meyer.
