PROMISES OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS TO ST. MARGARET MARY ALACOQUE

1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.

2. I will establish peace in their families.

3. I will console them in their sorrows.

4. I will be their sure refuge during their life, and especially at the hour of their death.

5. I will bestow abundant blessings on all their projects.

6. I will bless the homes in which the image of my Sacred Heart be epode and venerated.

7. The sinners will find in my Heart, the fountain and the infinite ocean of mercy.

8. The lukewarm souls will become fervent.

9. The fervent souls will be elevated to great perfection.

10. I will give the Priests the wisdom to move the most harden hearts.

11. The persons who promote this devotion will have their names written in my Heart and will never be blotted from it.

12. Those who receive Holy Communion on nine consecutive first Fridays of the month, I will give them the grace of

perseverance until the end. My Heart will be their refuge in the supreme moment of their death.

Some persons might think that these promises made by the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, do not have a meaning in today’s world, but if we read them seriously with calm, we see that once again, in all of them the purpose of the Gospel: God, sees the good of mankind and grants us what He promised, and He is faithful to whom follows Him. We have to trust Our Lord in order to gain all graces, we should pray so that our families relatives and friends be those who give consolation to the Sacred Heart of our Redeemer; we should pray asking Him to help us when the cross becomes heavy and intolerable. We should seek Him in the moments of trial and of farewell to this world; we should collaborate with our works in the perfection of Creation, knowing that our God has blessed them ahead; we should not hide our Christian Catholic identity, in a way that others may know what we are and whom we follow. We should know that even when we feel lost, there is always an open door to come back to encounter Him because He is ready to receive us. We should pray for the ones that do not believe, so they can encounter that path that leads to our God’s face; we should be conscientious that without Him is impossible to elevate our perfection in the Christian ideal; we should be witnesses of the love of Jesus in a society that intends to silence Him and go often to the blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist to receive the spiritual strength we all need.

Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

In our First Reading for today, we hear how God tested and led the Israelites in the desert for 40 years,

after bringing them out of slavery in Egypt, and into the Promised Land. However, having finally arrived at the

Promised Land, they finally received the freedom they had been promised 40 years ago. Now, they are tempted to

forget all that God had done for them in the desert and how He fed them with manna from heaven. Today’s First

Reading encourages the Israelites to recall and remember their journey through the desert, specifically how they

were totally dependent on God and His goodness to survive. The journey of the Israelites should remind us that

“man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God”. We have to ask

ourselves, does my relationship with God depend on receiving things from Him? Or are we satisfied with His silent

presence, confident that He walks with us on our journey through this life?

Besides physical hunger, we also experience another hunger that cannot be satisfied with ordinary food. This hunger is at the very center

of the human person, a hunger for life, love, and eternity, which the manna symbolizes. While God gave the Israelites manna from heaven, Jesus

perfects this manna by giving us Himself in the Eucharist. The Israelites eventually became physically hungry after eating the manna. However,

Jesus Himself, in the form of bread and wine, satisfies the deep hunger within us and gives us life. His body isn’t just nourishment to satisfy the

body like manna. The Body of Christ is the bread that brings us to eternal life. As people of faith, we are called to nourish and ground ourselves in

the Lord, around the reality that is eternal, and not with material goods that bring us only temporary nourishment and satisfaction.

All around us, we can see that the world offers us many different “foods” that do not come from the Lord and seem to be more attractive,

appealing, or satisfying. Some people nourish themselves with money, others with success and vanity, others with power and pride. The food that

the Lord offers us is what will truly nourish and satisfy us, although it is different from what the world offers us and may not seem as “flavorful”.

Because of this we can be like the Israelites, who dreamt and desired for the meat and onions they ate in Egypt, but they forgot that they had eaten

those meals at the table of slavery.

Today let us ask ourselves, where do I want to eat? Which table to be a guest at? At the Lord’s Table? Or do I desire flavorful foods, but

in slavery? Let us also ask ourselves what do I remember? Do I remember the Lord who saves me, or the garlic and onions of slavery? Let us pray

that we may learn to recognize the false food that deceives and corrupts, because it comes from selfishness, self-reliance, and from sin. This week,

let us remember that while the world offers and tells us to seek out success, power, and money, the Lord tells us to seek out humility, service, and

love.

EXPLORE RETREAT

June 26, 2017 - June 30, 2017

Camp Aranzazu – Rockport, TX EXPLORE is a summer experience for young men who want to understand their faith better, know themselves better, have fun, and make new friends from all over

the diocese.

EXPLORE is for young men who are enrolled in high school or who will be enrolling this fall, as well as recent high school graduates.

EXPLORE often helps a young man discern his God given vocation. In a society that does not seem to understand how someone could accept a vocation to the

priesthood, it helps him to meet others who would like to know more and also those who have been in priestly formation. However, EXPLORE is not just all talks or

prayer, but also a lot of fun! The facilities at Camp Aranzazu include sports facilities, swimming pool, zip line, and much more!

COST: $50.00

For more information please call the Office of Vocations at 361-334-2781 or see Seminarian Charles Silvas in the St. Martin’s Parish Office.
