We’re here – but why? . . . and how?

Moodle2 has things we felt worth having . . .• Completion tracking• File Picker• Docking (currently switched off, going on over autumn half term)

• Improved wiki• Comments block . . . thinking about this one!

. . . from June 2012 Moodle 1.9 is not being supported

So to the how – a bit of history• Moved to Moodle in 2006 (from Teknical’s Virtual

Campus)

• Moodle4U was 1.9.7 – regular upgrades, generally without staff knowledge, although timed to coincide with INSET where necessary – decision not to upgrade from this until Moodle2

• Host ourselves• ‘Out of the box’ – add in Books, Games (with

glossaries) and Questionnaires• Generally staff found Moodle to be a ‘breath of

fresh air’, but use it mainly for static materials

2010• ILT Facilitators’ Meeting• Proposal to Senior Management Group• Decided to move half term summer term• Kept an eye on discussions on Moodle.org forums and

JISC mail• Decided not to move half term summer term 2011 –

plan for half term summer term 2012• Linda took part in ‘Introducing Moodle 2.0’ – online

course with Jim Judges, ULCC – Feb/Mar 2011

• 273 courses (of 401 courses in Moodle4U) – rationalised categories

• 6 days – 2 members of staff • 1 member of staff working on ‘refinements’

for 4 days
