Japanese Training Programme After 2 coffee mornings, a new batch of 10 trainees were recruited and MV Japanese training programme is currently ongoing.

School Program guided by MVs On 3rd of March, a group of 31 students from One Academy visited the museum. Three MV guides volunteered for this visit. The purpose of the visit was to prepare the students for a History exam, which is part of the school syllabus. Even though that all the four galleries were covered during the guided tour, the students were especially attentive during the detailed explanation of the story behind the artefacts displayed at the Gallery C and Gallery D. This was because the accompanying teacher gave them some hints about the topics targeted on the exam. The student asked many questions, which provided the MV guides with an interesting interaction with the student, who were eager for knowledge.

MV featured in The Star newspaper on 18/3/17 On our last Screamer, we have anticipated that The Star interviewed the MVs on February, 11th. The article was published on 18/3/17 under the title: “History comes alive with National Museum volunteer guides”. The fully write-up is available on: http://www.star2.com/star2-com-video/2017/03/18/national-museum-volunteer-guides/ The article mentioned the nationality of the MV members from “Malaysia and expatriates from Japan, the United States and France” (Chandran and Periayaih, 2017) and mistakenly omitted to mention that MV volunteers is a multinational and multicultural group, consisting of volunteers from at least 14 countries, which includes, MVs from:

Argentina

Australia

Canada

China

Colombia

Germany

Korea

Poland

The Netherlands

UK

MV Tags 2017/2018 New tags are available on application by personally contacting Norfiza at Bahagian Komunikasi Korporat (BKK) during office hours. Her office is in the same building as the MV room. Dateline has been extended to 30 April 2017.

MV Tour Group Size Some local tourist guides have started transferring large groups of tourists to MVs on guiding duty. This obviously makes it very difficult for the MV to conduct a good tour. The maximum recommended limit for MV tours is 12 persons. For groups bigger than 12, tour guiding requests have to be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance in line with school programs. For individuals who register after the 12 person limit, the MV may issue a polite refusal.

Last Minute Emergency Cancellations Kindly inform Department of Museums Malaysia, contact number 016-322 0513 Jamil or 019-2673138 Norfiza immediately in case of any regrets only. Norfiza or Jamil should immediately inform the museum’s front desk about the unavailability. The MV should also email [email protected] in case the message has not been disseminated properly.

MV Focus Activities

MV Teh Tarik session, 25/2/17 The MV Teh Tarik session kicked off to a good start with around 20 MVs participating of the event organized by MV Focus Coordinator Elizabeth Khoo. The feedback was positive and encouraging, therefore the MV Teh Tarik session will remain as part of MV Focus event´s calendar. The next MV Teh Tarik session is expected to take place on 22nd July. The idea behind of a MV Teh Tarik session is to meet up with fellow MVs, share experiences on guiding and discuss on specific topics concerning our MV group.
