It was a great experience for her in a testing environment, where she had to compete against senior secondary students. The National Finals, A Great Chess Experience It was really nerve racking when we first got there, basically everyone was older than me. At the start I played a really hard game and lost, but as the day went on my games began to improve. I had 3 wins and 1 draw I got two badges, one for wiping out all of the other player's pieces and winning the game. The other one for getting three queens in one game and winning. At the end there was a chocolate chess game it was so much fun, it was girls versus boys. The girls won, so we got the first pick of what pieces of the chess board we got to eat! It was a great day, I felt proud of myself. Hopefully next year I will be picked to go. Sandpit There was a lot of excitement on Tuesday when David Hurst brought his tractor in to load the pile of sand we had had delivered into the sandpit. As the pile of sand grew with each load so did the excitement. The sand had arrived on Monday and there was an ant trail of children bucketing it down the field. Thanks go to David for speeding up the job and to Brian Nesbit for his organizing. We can make water troughs, big holes and the sand is a lot deeper. I like to play in the weekends because I live next door. Wirimu I’m going to shift the sand so it spreads out. I like making volcanoes and mountains. Quinn There is much more sand so we can do more stuff like build big castles and holes. Ashton S

20th October 2016 - Week 2

Term 4

Congratulations Phoebe Congratulations go to Phoebe, who competed in the NZ Schools Chess Championships last weekend in Wellington. It was a great experience for her in a testing environment, where she had to compete against senior secondary students.

The National Finals, A Great Chess Experience

It was really nerve racking when we first got there, basically everyone was older than me. At the start I played a really hard game and lost, but as the day went on my games began to improve. I had 3 wins and 1 draw

I got two badges, one for wiping out all of the other player's pieces and winning the game.

Sandpit There was a lot of excitement on Tuesday when David Hurst brought his tractor in

to load the pile of sand we had had delivered into the sandpit. As the pile of sand

grew with each load so did the excitement.

The sand had arrived on Monday and there was an ant trail of children bucketing it

down the field. Thanks go to David for speeding up the job and to Brian Nesbit

for his organizing.

We can make water troughs, big holes and the sand is a lot deeper. I like to play in the weekends because I live next door. Wirimu

I’m going to shift the sand so it spreads out. I like making volcanoes and mountains. Quinn

There is much more sand so we can do more stuff like build big castles and holes. Ashton S

Swimming Pool The pool has been waterblasted and the children given a wash earlier in the week and we have nearly completed filling it. Once the chemical balance in the pool is achieved we will open the pool but that will take up to a week. We will be selling keys to the pool so that families can use the pool outside of school hours, but that won’t be done until we have revised our current Pool Rules and Procedures, so that they meet the requirements of the new Health & Safety rules. We are working with all the local schools on this.

BOT News The Board discussed the process of consulting our School Community to find out what

they see as working well at Motupipi and what could be improved. As a new Board it is

important to have a direction in which to move the school forward and the information

gathered will be used to set that direction.

Helen has applied for and been granted a years leave. She will be helping her daughter in

law with child care while she begins her Rural GP training in Motueka and Takaka.

Motupipi School Consultation Meetings When

Tuesday, 8 November, 3.00pm Wednesday, 9 November, 7.00pm Thursday 10 November, 3.00pm

Where

Motupipi School staffroom Why

To help give us, as a new Board of Trustees, direction for next 3 years. To make sure we continue to progress as a school and provide the best education and experience we

can for our children. How it works We will look at the 2 questions;

What is going well at Motupipi School? What could be improved at Motupipi School?

More information will be circulated closer to the time and we hope to get input from as many of our school community as we can.
