DESCRIPTION

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) was started in 1946 to provide adequate nutrition for schoolchildren and most importantly, for young men eligible for the draft, particularly given the geopolitical climate of the time period. However, the program has roots that can be traced back to 18th century Europe. Today, it serves millions of meals to millions of children every day. The policies driving the program are reflect the political and socioeconomic policies at work in America.
