WHY I BELIEVE THIS IS THE BEST CONFERENCE FOR YOUChristine Navarre, DVM, MS, DACVIM (LAIM) NAVC PresidentI remember attending my first NAVC Conference back in the 1990s as a speaker. I was struck by the positive atmosphere from the moment I walked into the venue. It was very bright, cheerful and welcoming. The sheer volume of information available, and the size of the event, was kind of overwhelming, but also very exciting.

Over the years, the program has always been the core of this event. As I’ve transitioned from a speaker to an NAVC Board member and now President, I’ve personally seen our team embrace attendee feedback and strive to present the most incredible, cutting-edge program each year. In addition, we take our survey input very seriously and try every year to figure out how to make things better, easier and more enjoyable. No detail is too small when it comes to making sure the Conference is a complete success for you.

Fast-forward 20 years to the upcoming NAVC Conference 2016… supporting “What Moves You” to be in the veterinary profession. What excites me for this year are the variety of topics and the volume of choices. There’s truly something for everyone. You won’t leave disappointed in your ability to learn, grow, connect with others and also be entertained. The NAVC is taking the profession beyond medicine and clinical skills. We’re incorporating programs that present bold new ideas, such as our General Session and unique IGNITE! talks. I’m super excited about our Zoobiquity presentations as well, because public health is critical to people and animals. Plus, where else can you rock with Sheryl Crow in a private audience of your peers?

If you’ve been hesitant to register for the NAVC Conference 2016, I encourage you to look deep within yourself, review the programs that support your personal mission and treat yourself to top-quality education and inspiration.

I hope to see you there!

MAKE MOVES

WHAT MOVES YOU TO BE IN THE VETERINARY PROFESSION?Whether veterinary medicine is your lifelong passion or caring for animals gives you a deep sense of purpose — you’ll find CE sessions, colleague support and much more at the NAVC Conference 2016.For Jessica DeMarco, being in the veterinary profession means “seeing recovery.”

For Eric Garcia, it’s passion: “Passion is the primary catalyst for growth and progress, and passion is the glue that holds it all together when the going gets tough.”

What moves Sue Ettinger is a personal mission: “I missed a tumor in my own veterinary technician’s dog. Smokey was my inspiration for a new cancer awareness program, and I am on a mission to help us all detect tumors earlier.”

What about you? What’s the calling that moves you to keep learning and doing your best to care for animals? No matter what your mission is, the NAVC Conference 2016 has got you covered.

• It’s the largest and first veterinary conference of the year, with more than 1,200 CE credit hours to choose from

• You’ll find entire tracks and individual sessions focusing on a wide variety of species and specialties

• You can advance your medical knowledge as well as skills in client communications, team building and personal growth

Your registration includes access to hundreds of sessions covering a wide range of topics — and it’s affordable thanks to the generous support of our exhibitors, sponsors and advertisers. Each attendee registration is reduced at least 25% because of this support.

Additional, in-depth sessions are also available (see pg. 10) to further your experience. You can immerse yourself in mastering a specific skill with individual guidance, learn how a leading practitioner solved a particularly challenging case or have lunch with an expert clinician to swap stories and ask questions — but don’t hesitate to sign up, because they fill up fast!

More than 16,000 of your peers were moved to come to the NAVC Conference in 2015.Why? For all the great reasons you’ll discover throughout this guide:

• Learning • Networking• Getting inspired • Seeing new tools• Moving on the dance floor • Relaxing poolside in January

MOVE FAST: The NAVC Conference 2016 is just two months away! Review this guide and act now so you can make your travel plans and sign up for the sessions you want.

HOW TO PLAN YOUR AMAZING NAVC LEARNING EXPERIENCELet Us help you navigate hundreds of world-class CE learning opportunities over five days.

This January, you can earn the bulk of your required CE credit hours while expanding your mind and career skills. But with hundreds of diverse CE learning opportunities and events, how do you make a smart plan to move in the right direction each day?

START WITH THESE INSIDER TIPS

1. Begin with your personal mission and learning goals. Where are you in your career path? Which skills and specialties would you like to acquire? Identify what you

want for your practice, your patients and your personal growth.

2. Review the NAVC Conference 2016 Scientific Program sessions. Look through our CE program schedule in the NAVC Conference 2016 Preliminary Program Guide at

NAVC.com/Program. Based on your goals, find specific sessions of interest and when/where they’ll occur.

3. Look through the valuable CE “extras” you can pursue: Hands-on Laboratories, Masterclasses, Meet the Professor Luncheons and Behind the Scenes Tours.

Is there a skill you’ve always wanted to master? Or are you planning to renovate or build a new hospital in the near future? Choose from 110 different exceptional CE options, including hands-on training, one-on-one time with seasoned professionals, a hospital design workshop and interactive tour experiences. (See p. 10 for details.)

4. Add Exhibit Halls, receptions, entertainment, Behind the Scenes Tours and other interests to your social calendar.

Make sure you plan several Exhibit Hall visits to see new products, learn about new solutions, talk with manufacturers and enjoy opportunities to win great prizes and giveaways. After full days of learning, you’ll be ready to unwind with colleagues at our networking and entertainment events. And don’t forget to sign up for Behind the Scenes Tours to encounter local animal species and discuss care.

5. Work all the “puzzle pieces” into a daily plan that makes the most of your time here. Use the NAVC Conference 2016 Mobile App scheduler to map your ideal CE sessions and other events for each day of the NAVC Conference, Saturday-Wednesday… and save them as your favorites.

Note: CE sessions are presented at both the Gaylord and Marriott hotels, so you’ll want to plan time to take the free shuttle bus transportation between buildings. In addition, some session titles were not available when the Preliminary Program Guide was printed. Visit NAVC.com/Programs for the most current schedule of NAVC Conference programs, entertainment and events. Shuttles sponsored by Merial.

NAVC CONFERENCE 2016: ON TRACK WITH VETERINARY TECHNICIANSWhat Moves You? That’s what the NAVC Conference 2016 is all about.

An interview with Heather Prendergast, RVT, CVPM NAVC Conference 2016 Veterinary Technician Program Chair

What has been your focus when developing veterinary technician CE tracks and other offerings? Heather: “My focus was to present three tracks to select from, based on each veterinary technician’s comfort level and experience:

• Track 1, Technician Essentials: for newer technicians working in general practice • Track 2, Progressive Knowledge: for experienced technicians looking to gain new skills • Track 3, State of the Art: for advanced technicians and veterinary technician specialists.”

How did you choose the sessions and speakers for these tracks? Heather: “I asked interested speakers to submit session titles and descriptions. I looked for topics that haven’t been covered recently, and for dynamic speakers. It is important to have a combination of hot topics and dynamic speakers to create excellent sessions.”

Why do you feel this is THE BEST conference for technicians? Heather: “No other conference provides the level of targeting based on technician experience. For instance, we’ve expanded our Veterinary Technician Masterclasses covering a diverse range of topics. I am a firm believer in ‘Technicians teaching Technicians,’ and I have accomplished that for 2016! Every speaker on the technician track is a practicing technician, and a majority are veterinary technician specialists (VTS). Each of the following specialties is represented:

• Anesthesia • Behavior• Clinical Pathology• Clinical Practice• Dentistry• Dermatology• Emergency and Critical Care• Equine• Internal Medicine (Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology)• Nutrition• Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy

We’re also featuring Veterinary Technician Case Study Presentations again. Technicians submitted their case studies to NAVTA, and a committee selected the top individuals to present at NAVC. The top two NAVC Conference 2015 winners were asked to present in 2016! In addition, this year’s top winners will win a trip to a conference specializing in presentation skills.

All veterinary technicians are invited to the NAVTA Annual Meeting, Town Hall Meeting and Annual Awards (Veterinary Technician of the Year, Student Chapter and Advisor of the Year) on Saturday.”

Will there be a Veterinary Technician Lounge again this year? Heather: “Yes! The Veterinary Technician Lounge, located in the Marriott Exhibit Hall, is co-sponsored by NAVTA, Boehringer Ingelheim, IDEXX, and Merial. This is NAVTA’s 35th Anniversary, so we expect to have fun activities in the lounge all week. Be sure to join us there so we can celebrate our profession together!”

Also plan to attend the Veterinary Technician’s Networking Reception on Sunday, sponsored by Merial.
