Negative numbers are

numbers that are

less than zero.

We write a minus sign in

front of the digits to show

that they are negative.

Looking at number lines can help us

to understand negative numbers.

-10 -9 -8 -7 -6 -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

Lower numbers are on

the left and higher

numbers are on the right.

5 is higher than -7

-1 is higher than -9

We use negative

numbers in many

different ways.The temperature

is -7oC.It’s VERY cold!

My bank balance is -£100.I owe the bank 100 pounds!

The coordinates of the green circle are (-6, 4).

with a calculator, look for the +/- key.

using a calculator.
