The Netherlands 2000 Scenery for Flight Simulator 2000 (v2.0)

You need Microsoft Flight Simulator Version 2000 (FS2000 Standard or Professional version) and FS2000 patch 2b installed on your computer in order to use this scenery properly. Unfortunately, we were unable to design a version compatible with the older FS98. FS98 didn’t provide us with sufficient resource(s) to run the scenery with all the objects we wanted to include in this new FS2000 scenery add-on. It is very important to read our recommendations at the end of the setup program for the scenery detail settings. The frame-rate will drop dramatically when you use display settings with our scenery other than those settings we recommend. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Min. Pentium P300Mhz. 64MB RAM DirectX compatible 3D video card with at least 4MB of memory 400MB free space on hard disk during setup, when the scenery is installed it will need 200MB

TEAM HISTORY This scenery has been developed by a small team of scenery and aircraft designers resident in the Netherlands. Most members are purely amateur and a few members are also professional designers. At first, all individual members were designing independently, but got together to make up this design team. Because there was no single scenery package for the Netherlands available for Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 and 2000, the team decided to design its own scenery of the Netherlands as a complete freeware package and to make the scenery widely available to all. Although there were sceneries available for FS Europe, they didn't match the quality we as a team like to see. There was also some great Dutch scenery available for FS5 like the beautiful Rotterdam Scenery, or the great rendition of Amsterdam Schiphol and although this has been an inspiration to achieve this scenery, it’s by now rather outdated in respect of the current state of scenery design for FS2000. THE NETHERLANDS The Netherlands, a small, but economically important country in Europe and 16 million inhabitants. The Netherlands shares borders to the south with Belgium and the east with Germany, while the North Sea lies to the north and west. Large areas of The Netherlands have been reclaimed from the sea and consequently one-fifth of the country lies below sea level. The country is flat and level and is criss-crossed by rivers and canals. Areas reclaimed from the sea, known as polders, are extremely fertile. The landscape is broken by the forest of Arnhem, the bulb fields in the west, the lakes of central and northern areas, and coastal dunes that are among the most impressive in Europe. Well known for its flowers, its windmills and of course the mayor hub Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. A beautiful country as you will soon find out. Got interested ? Want to learn more about the Dutch and their country ? Please visit http://www.netherlands.com or http://www.goholland.com/ ACCURACY OF THE SCENERY In the design of the scenery, the designers tried to be as accurate as they could. Where possible, all objects are positioned within 10 meters of their true coordinates. The entire scenery is based on photographic material that we ourselves made and which was also obtained from other sources such as national and international flight journals. In addition, a lot of research has been carried out by all individual members of the team in and around the airfields depicted in this scenery add-on. The NL2000 Design Team also includes two real pilots, who have done all they can to make the scenery give the feel of real flying over the Netherlands. One member of the team – Guido van Wijngaarden – developed a vector editing software package specially geared towards the design of the Netherlands scenery. The scenery contains all the civil and military airports, aerodromes and air force bases in the Netherlands. The scenery includes many of the Dutch Glider Strips e.g. that of Terlet near Arnhem, some other airfields are also used for this purpose (Midden-Zeeland, Teuge, Lelystad etc.). In version 2 we also included some ULA fields. Unfortunately, the military airfields and air force bases (ABs) are not as accurate as they could be. This is because of the restrictions laid upon maps and photographic material pertaining to those airfields/airforce bases. As a result of this, the Netherlands Royal Air Force or Navy were unable to grant us permission to obtain the necessary scenery information we needed to achieve a greater accuracy of the military airfields.

The scenery also contains all the necessary NAVAIDS (VORs, ILS, NDBs), most of the motorways, major roads, railways, rivers, water channels and canals and also all lakes (big and small). There are also other characteristic features included in this scenery, such as: typical Dutch windmills (positioned near Kinderdijk and in other locations), electric powerlines, oil rigs and gas platforms in the North Sea, buildings in the major cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht etc. Any suggestions and/or recommendations for the improvement of this scenery are more than welcome. Please contact the team about any information you can give us. The enhancement and further updates to this scenery are really only possible with the help of people like you as a flight simulator enthusiast, who can provide us with the necessary additional and more detailed information we need – this might also include additional information regarding military airfields, glider strips, ULA fields and heliports. Only then can we as a team continue our work on to version 2 and beyond. All input is welcome, however small it may be... USE OF THIRD-PARTY MACROs AND OTHER SOFTWARE/UTILITIES Although most of the objects in this scenery have been designed from scratch, a few freeware API macros have also been used. We are therefore very grateful to the authors/designers of those freeware macros and we have always respected any copyright issues. In most cases, the original authors have been contacted on these issues, but sometimes not. However, if anybody has any questions with regard to the use and/or misuse of scenery macros etc., or believes that copyright regulations have been violated in any way, please contact the NL2000 Design Team through our website. For more information, please visit our official website at: http://www.nl-2000.com/

MANUALLY INSTALLING If for any reason the setup program cannot be run on your computer, please install the NL2000 scenery manually using the following procedure: 1. Go to the FS2000 directory on your computer. This is probably in C:\Program

Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000. If you can't find the directory, use the FIND function in Windows and look for FS2000.EXE

2. Go to the subdirectory SCENERY 3. Create a new FOLDER called NL2000 in this directory 4. Go to the subdirectory NL2000 5. Create a new FOLDER called SCENERY 6. Copy all the NL2000 files with the extension .BGL into this directory 7. Return to the NL2000 directory 8. Create a new FOLDER called TEXTURE 9. Go to the subdirectory TEXTURE 10. Copy all NL2000 files into this directory, without the files with

the Extension *.EXE and *.BGL 11. Go back to the FS2000 directory 12. Open the file SCENERY.CFG with NOTEPAD or another text editor 13. Add these lines on the bottom of this file: [Area.073] Title=Netherlands 2000

Local=c:\program files\Microsoft Games\fs2000\scenery\NL2000 Active=True Layer=73 Flatten.0=0,N53 44,E03 13,N53 44,E07 28,N51 20,E07 28,N51 20,E03 13 Flatten.1=114,N51 20,E05 30,N51 20,E06 10,N51 03,E06 10,N51 03,E05 30 Flatten.2=375,N51 03,E05 30,N51 03,E06 10,N50 40,E06 10,N50 40,E05 30

In the above example layer 073 was used. In your SCENERY.CFG file, you have to use a different (= new) layer. Look in your SCENERY.CFG file for the highest layer number. Use a layer that is 1 higher than the lowest in your file for NL2000. MANUALLY UNINSTALLING 1. Go to the FS2000 directory 2. Rename scenery.cfg in scenery_nl2000.cfg 3. Rename scenery_org.cfg in scenery.cfg 4. Remove the NL2000 subdirectory in the SCENERY directory of FS2000
