Audi’s unrivalled heritage in all-wheel-

drive was highlighted at Frankfurt with

the unveiling of the sensational Audi Sport

quattro (above) and Nanuk (right) concepts.

Both give strong hints on future Audi design

themes while furthering and paying tribute

to quattro’s illustrious history.

Evocative Audi Sport quattro concept

It’s over 30 years since the original Audi

Sport quattro was conceived for world

championship rallying; the Audi Sport

quattro concept is its conceptual successor.

The stunning coupé silhouette pays

tribute to the original Audi quattro and

hides a plug-in hybrid drivetrain comprising

a 560PS V8 petrol engine with cylinder-on-

demand technology and a 110kW electric

motor delivering a system output of 700PS

– enough for a breathtaking 0-62mph time

of just 3.7secs and top speed of 189mph

(where permitted).

Yet the Sport quattro concept returns

combined fuel consumption of 113mpg

and CO2 emissions of just 59g/km, and

bristles with the latest technology, design

and materials.

Nanuk showcases Audi technology

All-wheel-drive complete with all-wheel

steering hints at the technology hidden

beneath the spectacular Nanuk concept’s

svelte shape (right). That and three-stage

air suspension plus a 550PS V10 diesel

engine delivering no less than 1,000Nm

of torque. Blending supercar styling with

the practicality of an off-roader, the Nanuk

offers a tantalising glimpse of a potential

new class of car – the ‘coupé crossover’.

New Audi A3 Cabriolet

Following in the wheeltracks of the A3

hatch, Saloon and Sportback, the new

Cabriolet (right) debuted at Frankfurt. The

fourth model in the range, ordering is open

now for deliveries in March 2014 – see p14.

Evocative Audi Sport quattro concept heads high-tech theme at Frankfurt Show

With winter once again almost upon us, everyone at Audi’s thoughts turn to the advantages of our quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Memories of recent winters, where snow and ice seemingly brought the country to a standstill, focus our minds on the benefits of quattro when the going gets tricky. Those benefits in traction, braking and active safety in slippery conditions are magnified even further when quattro is augmented by a set of winter tyres, available for all Audi models through your Audi Centre.

We’ve looked at both in our celebration of quattro on pages 16-17, and with quattro now available on the A3 hatch and Sportback it’s more attainable than ever.

With technology advancing at such a pace in the digital age, and in the interests of maximing residual value prospects on today’s new cars, we’ve also analysed what buyers might expect from a used car in three or four years’ time. See pages 10-11 for our thoughts.

Elsewhere, we’ve showcased the new Audi models and concepts unveiled in Frankfurt, including the thought-provoking Nanuk and the sensational Sport quattro concepts, both displaying Audi technology in true Vorsprung durch Technik fashion.

Tempting new offers add equipment and value to TT range for 2014

The Audi A3: three million and counting

An upgrade from Sport to S line specification

for just £350 and a lavishly specified Limited

Edition version of the TTS are highlights of a new

campaign for the Audi TT range.

S line specification for just £350

The usual TT Coupé or Roadster Sport to S line

upgrade premium of £1,860 has been cut to just

£350, adding £1,510 RRP of customer value.

S line specification builds on the Sport trim

level with highlights including 18˝ ‘5-twin-

spoke’ alloy wheels, Xenon headlights with LED

daytime driving lights, S line embossed leather/

Alcantara® upholstery and S line body styling.

The reduced premium also benefits Black

Edition models, which add £1,250 RRP to S line

prices. Specification includes 19˝ ‘7-twin-spoke

titanium look’ alloys, a superb BOSE® premium

sound system with Symphony radio, full Black

Styling Package and either acoustic rear parking

(Roadster) or privacy glass (Coupé).

New TTS Limited Edition (pictured above)

With extra equipment worth no less than

£8,480 for a premium of just £2,815 RRP over

TTS Coupé and Roadster prices, the new TTS

Limited Edition models are assured of rapid

take-up and will arrive in Audi showrooms in

early 2014.

Just 120 Coupés and Roadsters will be built

for the UK, each marked with an exclusive ‘1 of

500’ plaque and finished in either Nimbus Grey

or Imola Yellow.

Immediately identifiable by imposing 19˝

‘5-arm rotor’ design alloy wheels, fixed TTRS

rear spoiler and rear parking sensors, Limited

Edition models also add interior equipment

including ‘Impulse’ exclusive leather upholstery

with grey and yellow stitching, a TTRS design

flat-bottom steering wheel, MMI navigation plus

and Audi Music Interface as well as light and rain

sensors, cruise control and an auto-dimming

rear view mirror.

With 17 years of innovation and technical

development behind it, the three-millionth A3

– a Sportback 2.0 TDI quattro – has rolled off

the assembly line at Audi’s Ingolstadt factory.

At launch back in 1996, it was the A3

that established and defined a new ‘premium

compact’ class, bringing together unrivalled

style, sportiness and desirability.

From those pioneering days, the A3 has

evolved into a line-up comprising three-door

hatch and five-door Sportback models as well as

the sporting new A3 Saloon (see page 8). From

next Spring the new A3 Cabriolet, previewed at

the Frankfurt Motor Show (see pages 3 and 14),

goes on sale in the UK.

2014 also sees the arrival of the petrol-

electric A3 e-tron, capable of up to 188mpg

while emitting as little as 35g/km of CO2,

according to the NEDC test.

In 2012, Audi produced a total of 152,993

A3 series models at Ingolstadt with the

Sportback accounting for the majority, being

built at the rate of around 700 each day.

Audi City virtual showroom concept wins prestigious BT Retail Week Technology award

Audi's revolutionary virtual showroom concept at

Audi City has earned it a ‘Store Technology Award’

in the BT Retail Week Technology Awards.

Judges in the 12 category awards included

IT and commercial directors from some of the

country’s most highly regarded and progressive

retail organisations, including John Lewis, House

of Fraser, Jacques Vert and Net-a-Porter. The

Store Technology Award is new to the category

list for 2013.

The Audi City format enables the entire

Audi model line-up to be presented digitally in

a compact space, with all colours, equipment

options and functions for all Audi models

displayed in their entirety.

More than 20 Audi City stores are expected to

be in place in key locations worldwide by 2015.

Visitors can digitally select their vehicle from

several hundred million possible configurations

and experience it in realistic 1:1 scale on screens

that almost fill the entire space.

“The Audi City concept is Vorsprung durch

Technik down to a tee,” said Jason Cranswick,

Head of Customer Quality and Network

Development at Audi UK. “It bucks trends,

embraces the future and employs leading

edge technology to make life easier for our

customers.”

Rebecca Thomson, Insight Editor at Retail

Week, added: “Retail technologists don't have an

easy job – they are working to ready the industry

for a shopping environment that will rely almost

entirely on technology. The winners should feel

very proud of what they are achieving.”

Audi range attracts the most votes on eBay Motors UK //

Prospective buyers logging on to eBay UK have

voted the brand all the way to the top in the

inaugural eBay Motors Awards.

Audi took the Used Car Brand of the Year title

after eBay users were invited to vote for their

winner from a pre-selected list of the most popular

‘searched-for’ brands.

Richard Starkey, Audi Used Car Development

Manager, commented: “To be recognised as the

most popular brand by visitors to one of the key

‘go-to sites’ for used cars is extremely encouraging.

It bears testament to the strength of our Approved

Used offer – a buyer’s guarantee that a car has been

scrutinised by technicians who know it best, and

which has made the grade.”

It’s Monte Carlo or bust for Gatwick Diamond Business in support of Sussex charities //

Gatwick Diamond Business (GDB), the leading

association for local business in West Sussex,

organised a ‘Monte Carlo or Bust’ charity drive – and

exceeded their £12,000 target by some £6,000.

A fleet of 12 Audis provided by Coulsdon Audi

and individually liveried by PVL in Burgess Hill, set

out on a non-stop run to the Columbus Monte Carlo

Hotel, aiming to get there before GDB Executives

could reach the same hotel using only public

transport. They did it – but with minutes to spare.

Teams included PVL UK (above), vehicle branding

specialists, who dressed as Austin Powers characters

and wrapped their A5 before dashing to Monaco.

The teams, from local companies including

EasyJet, Extech, South Lodge Hotel and Wessex

Networks, raised over £18,000 for charities such as

Golden Lion Children’s Trust, the NSPCC, Rocking

Horse, St Catherine’s Hospice, Sussex & Surrey Air

Ambulance and the Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Evocative five-cylinder Audi TFSI unit wins 2013 Engine of the Year award

A jury of 87 leading motoring journalists from

around the world has voted the Audi 2.5 TFSI

unit ‘International Engine of the Year’ in the

2.0-litre to 2.5-litre category for the fourth

year running.

The engine’s DNA can be traced back to

its first iteration, which astounded world

championship rallying in the 1980s with its

formidable performance and unmistakable

five-cylinder soundtrack in the original Audi

quattro and Sport quattro S1 (below).

Strength in its residual values and outstanding

desirability has secured the Audi A1 the inaugural

Motor Trader Used Car of the Year Award.

The magazine invited key trade guides, auction

houses and retailers to nominate the used cars that

had impressed them most in 2012. These were then

condensed into a shortlist and an overall winner.

Motor Trader editor, Curtis Hutchinson, said:

“The A1 demands no compromises on quality versus

bigger Audi models and that has worked in favour

of its residuals, meaning desirability on the used

market is every bit as strong. It’s a highly coveted

car and a very worthy winner of our first used award.”

October, November and December sees the Audi

Centre network celebrating quattro, with a major

emphasis on Audi's pioneering all-wheel-drive

technology and a 10-day event on November 8-10.

Now available on most Audi models, including

the sensational new RS Q3 (pictured above), quattro

offers unrivalled grip and traction in all driving

situations, and especially in winter.

An interactive In-Centre display will focus

on the everyday relevance of quattro, while extra

demonstrators will be laid on, all supported by

national press and radio advertising.

For further details visit www.audi.co.uk/quattro

and see our celebration of quattro on pages 16-17.

Superfast 4G mobile internet for A3

Ultra high-speed fourth generation, or ‘4G’,

technology is now available on the Audi A3 when

ordered with the ‘Technology package with

mobile telephone preparation – high, with Audi

Connect’ option, priced from £1,795 RRP.

The most advanced of all current mobile

communication standards, LTE/4G considerably

broadens the scope of what is possible with in-car

‘infotainment’. It enables the download of large

amounts of data, such as music and films in HD,

at much faster speeds than 3G.

To use 4G, a separate SIM card simply needs

to be inserted into the MMI navigation unit in the

glovebox. When occupants connect their mobile

devices to the WLAN hotspot in the car, they can

surf the web independently of one another. For

example, one passenger can participate in a video

conference while another watches a video.

The MMI navigation plus also uses LTE/4G to

deliver the many services of Audi connect to the

driver, including navigation with Google Earth®

and Street View® to Facebook and Twitter social

media with a text-to-speech function.

A3 takes top industry accolades from Fleet World and What Car? magazines

A prestigious award from Fleet World for the

A3, as well as top billing for the new A3 Saloon

in a major What Car? group test, has added to a

lengthening list of prestigious accolades.

A3 is Fleet World Best Lower Medium Car

Editorial staff from Fleet World presided over the

A3’s Best Lower Medium Car 2013 accolade in the

annual Fleet World Honours.

The award took into account residual value,

maintenance and reliability data from providers

including ALD Automotive, Hitachi Capital

Vehicle Solutions, Lex Autolease, LeasePlan,

EurotaxGlass, VIP DATA and Arval.

Steve Moody, editor of Fleet World, said:

“With the A3, Audi has taken a winning formula

and refined it further. It has low emission engines

and highly competitive running costs, but it is the

sheer quality that impresses most. It might be a

hatchback, but it feels like a luxury car.”

A3 Saloon wins major What Car? group test

The road test team at What Car? concluded,

in the October 2013 issue of the magazine,

that the new A3 Saloon 2.0 TDI Sport was the

firm favourite when compared with the BMW

320d EfficientDynamics, Lexus IS 300h SE and

Mercedes-Benz CLA 220 CDI Sport.

Awarding it a coveted five-star rating, the

testers said: “Like most Audis, the new A3 Saloon

offers a stunning interior, but it also out-drives

the BMW 3 Series and costs less to run.”

Furthermore, they praised its “extensive

safety kit and enjoyable handling”, and decided it

was “the best compact executive car around”.

Now the engine’s legacy continues in the

TT RS Coupé and Roadster, featuring both

turbocharging and FSI petrol direct injection,

two core Audi technologies. The engine also

powers the new RS Q3 (see right), the first RS

model in the Audi SUV line-up.

This is the ninth category win in a row at the

International Engine of the Year Awards for Audi

TFSI technology. Between 2005 and 2009, the

Audi 2.0 TFSI engine won the award in the 1.8

to 2.0 category.

The new Saloon shares much of its interior design with

the A3 Sportback, which won plaudits for its materials,

build quality and ergonomics to win the 2013 What Car?

Car of the Year Award.

As What Car?’s testers said: “What really sealed

the victory was the Audi’s classiness. The beautiful

cabin materials, flawless assembly and fastidious

attention to detail put it head-and-shoulders above

any rival for quality. It actually feels posher than

some executive cars”.*

And with standard equipment that includes

Bluetooth® interface, MMI radio with 5.8˝ electrically

Page 6: The new Audi A3 Saloon...– a Sportback 2.0 TDI quattro – has rolled off the assembly line at Audi’s Ingolstadt factory. At launch back in 1996, it was the A3 that established

Audi is synonymous with industry-leading technology, much

of it developed from decades of glittering success in world-

class motorsport.

Audi is a pioneer in the digital age, and the standard

specification of new models in the range reflect that. It’s also

one of the reasons why a broad choice of optional features is

available for every new Audi, with each designed to make the

most of new technology that’s tailored to future expectation.

But while every Audi is true to Vorsprung durch Technik,

and embraces the latest thinking in design, construction

and quality, rapidly advancing technology in the digital age

means choosing the right equipment now is crucial to a car’s

appeal – and resale value – in years to come.

In fact, market analysts agree that some of today’s

optional features will be expected by buyers on the used

market in future and have a direct impact on resale prices.

So developing a car’s specification now to maximise

prices in years to come is becoming the new priority.

Question is what should you be choosing now to ensure

you get the best return in future? We look at some of the

key standard features and options available across the Audi

range that are likely to tick buyers’ boxes in years to come.

In-car technology: satellite navigationSatellite navigation systems have evolved greatly during

the last 15 years, and now offer features including real-

time traffic information, a choice of routes, voice control,

postcode recognition, detailed mapping using Google® maps

and 3D viewing. Availability across the Audi range enables

you to choose a fully integrated SD card-based system from

just £495 from the A3 upwards, while the A4 and A5 SE

Technik, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 S line plus and R8 all feature

sophisticated systems as standard.

In-car technology: DAB digital radio reception

All television reception is now digital and it follows that radio

will go the same way in future. So it’s good to know that the

Progress magazine / 11

Technology for the future //

Tomorrow’s technology today: planning for the future vast majority of new Audi models are now fitted with DAB

– Digital Audi Broadcasting – radio reception as standard.

It enables them to receive programmes from digital radio

transmitters, as well as analogue stations, but with much

improved sound quality. With the DAB twin tuner, a second

DAB tuner permanently searches for alternative reception

frequencies of the set station for optimised listening.

In-car technology: 4G mobile internet connectionAudi is the first manufacturer to integrate the superfast Long

Term Evolution/4G data transfer standard into a production

car. Initially available in the A3/S3 range as part of the

Technology Pack – high, including Audi connect – available

from £1,795 RRP – LTE/4G considerably broadens the scope

of what is possible with in-car ‘infotainment’. It enables

navigation with Google Earth® and Google Street View® as

well as Facebook and Twitter social media platforms with a

text-to-speech function.

In-car technology: adaptive cruise control As traffic levels increase, driver assistance packages become

more and more relevant. Adaptive cruise control, Audi’s

intelligent automatic speed and distance control system,

is available from £575 across the Audi range. It works at

speeds from 19-155mph (where the law permits), using

radar sensors to measure and maintain the required distance

to the vehicle ahead by braking and accelerating. At speeds

below 19mph the system can initiate partial braking or full

deceleration if a potential impact is detected.

In-car technology: Audi drive selectThe UK has a wide variety of road conditions and surfaces,

but Audi models can adapt to those conditions with Audi

Drive Select. With Comfort, Dynamic, Auto, Efficiency and

Individual modes selectable at the touch of a button, the

driver can choose their car’s driving mode. For long distances,

Comfort creates a more relaxing ride. Dynamic changes the

settings for a sportier driving experience, adjusting steering

and throttle response. Auto adapts the system depending

on the driving situation while Individual allows the driver to

configure the dynamics of the car to their own preferences.

Metallic paintFor years the number one feature on all new cars that will

ensure keen interest among used car buyers, metallic paint

is available on every Audi, and is standard on the A8. In fact,

many leasing companies specify it on all their cars knowing it

will realise a value uplift at resale time.

Leather upholstery Leather upholstery can take years off a used car’s interior,

and is more opulent and harder wearing than cloth. Every

new Audi is available with leather, and A6, A7 Sportback, A8,

Q5, Q7 and R8 feature it as standard. And while heated front

seats are already de rigueur on many models, heated rear

seats as well aren’t far behind for desirability these days.

Automatic transmissionGone are the days when automatic transmission spelt

disaster for fuel economy and performance. Today, Audi’s

automatic transmissions are at the pinnacle of technology,

and can actually enhance fuel consumption and reduce

CO2 emissions while adding to driver enjoyment. The vast

majority of Audi’s model range is available with automatic

transmission, from S tronic through multitronic to tiptronic

depending on model, offering impressive refinement,

efficiency and convenience.

Air conditioningFrom the manual air conditioning fitted as standard in the A1

to the deluxe 4-zone climate control system that’s a feature

in every A8 Long Wheelbase, buyers will expect to maintain

their cool in any car in future. For that reason alone, it’s

worth considering upgrading from manual a/c to full climate

control, available from just £330 RRP.

Alloy wheelsThankfully, you can’t buy a new Audi without alloy wheels

these days. After metallic paint, alloys are perhaps the most

desirable feature on any car for the used buyer. Upgrading

is a matter of personal choice and budget and the choice is

wide for every model in the Audi range, while some offer a

no-extra-cost selection of wheel styles.

Building lasting relationships through outstanding customer service is a priority for Tom Brennan, left, and Warren Richards

Fresh emphasis on the needs and aspirations of fleet customers

is the number one priority for Audi Fleet for 2014.

The strategy retains the existing Fleet Team structure, where

two Key Account Managers are supported by six regionally based

Fleet Managers, while a five-strong contract hire and leasing team

is set to strengthen existing relationships with the leasing industry.

Meanwhile, the new role of Fleet Programmes Manager,

headed by former Key Account Manager Ruth Austin, will further

develop the Audi Centre-based Local Business Development

Manager network.

“The new structure will ensure we look after our fleet

customers to create and maintain long-term partnerships,” says

Warren Richards (pictured right), National Fleet Manager at Audi.

“Our service has always been customer-focused; now our Area

Fleet Managers will be able to build relations with operators of

fleets of ten cars and upwards where previously they have had

little or no direct communication.

“Working closely with the Local Business Development

Managers, the Area Fleet Managers aim to provide an invaluable

resource for the local business community, and will help to ensure

no corporate customer, whatever their fleet size, is left wanting

for comprehensive account management,” continues Richards.

“It means fleet operators and their drivers local to each Audi

Centre can expect to be treated like retail customers, with a full

service tailored specifically to their needs.

“It’s a strategy that will enable us to roll out a more personal,

bespoke service, one that we are confident will enable a greater

understanding of our customers’ requirements.”

With the rise in popularity of contract hire as the preferred

funding method for many fleets, strengthening Audi’s relationships

with the leasing industry is becoming more and more important.

Tom Brennan, Audi’s National Contract Hire and Leasing

Manager, is keen to understand more about how the brand is

perceived by the industry.

“Strong residual values and low operating costs are essential

for attractive lease rates, the key driver for fleets,” he says.

“We’re keen to ensure Audi models tick all the right boxes

for the fleet operator, and we are doing everything to ensure our

residual value performance is the strongest it can be.

“Competition is stronger than ever in the premium sector,

and leasing is becoming more and more popular,” he says. “In

particular, with rising interest in lease-based products such as

salary sacrifice, we need to ensure Audi is best-placed to answer

the needs of salary sacrifice in the premium sector.

The Audi A1 and new A3 are ideally placed for this,

offering CO2 emissions from just 99g/km and combined fuel

consumption of up to 74.3mpg. Those are essential cost-saving

factors which suit the salary sacrifice business model very well.

Both Richards and Brennan are convinced of one thing:

“Without a doubt we are entering an era where cost control has

a greater meaning than ever. We like to think we are pioneering

new developments, with new technology striving for more

efficient solutions to everyday situations.

“Our fleet sales structure is just part of our strategy for a

stronger future. While we intend to build on our relationships

with larger fleets, we will be connecting even more positively

with smaller operators and company car drivers.

“Our team of Area Fleet Managers will be working with Local

Business Development Managers to channel enquiries to Audi

Centres, where customers can sample for themselves – perhaps

for the first time – the Audi Brand Experience. We feel sure they

won’t be disappointed.”

New A8: luxury taken to the next level

Fresh new looks with a sharper grille design

and new bonnet contours, new headlights and

bumpers, more power and equipment and a host

of interior refinements mark out the new Audi

A8, which goes on sale in January 2014.

Key to the new A8 is a revised engine line-up

with CO2 emissions starting from just 155g/km

for the 3.0 TDI 204PS model.

Petrol variants now use Audi’s revolutionary

cylinder-on-demand technology, which sees a

15PS increase to 435PS on 4.0 TFSI models and a

rise from 290PS to 310PS on the 3.0 TFSI.

Meanwhile the popular 3.0 TDI quattro also

enjoys a power hike from 250PS to 258PS, while

the mighty 4.2 TDI moves from 350PS to 385PS.

New technology upgrades include optional

MatrixBeam LED headlights (pictured left), while

new colours, new alloy wheel designs and interior

trim choices add to the A8’s premium status.

New A3 Cabriolet: the premium quality soft-top

With an automatic soft-top that’s fully concealed

when retracted and the inclusion of quattro in the

range for the first time, the new A3 Cabriolet takes

a sophisticated step up from the previous model.

The new Cabriolet’s sleek looks and fully

concealed soft top belie the fact that luggage space

is increased by 60 litres with improved access. The

new model is also around 50kg lighter than before.

The acoustic soft top has a thick inner foam

layer to reduce interior noise plus a glass heated

rear window, and is available in black, grey or brown,

with the liner in a choice of black or lunar silver.

A choice of SE, Sport or S line trims accompanies

three engines at launch – 1.4 TFSI 140PS, 1.8 TFSI

180PS and 2.0 TDI 150PS. All three offer spirited

performance, combined fuel consumption of up to

67.3mpg and CO2 emissions from just 110g/km

(2.0 TDI 150PS manual).

The new Cabriolet is available to order now, with

first deliveries expected in March 2014.

It’s more than three decades since the original Audi

quattro changed forever the shape of the World Rally

Championship and pioneered series production of

permanent all-wheel-drive in road cars.

Since then, progressive technical development

has evolved quattro into today’s sophisticated,

compact and lightweight system that’s central to

dynamic safety as well as performance and security.

Today, all-wheel-drive is synonymous with Audi

through quattro, with the latest systems providing

optimum traction and stability in all driving situations.

In fact, every Audi model series except the A1 is

available with quattro, offering unrivalled choice and a

reassuring advantage in inclement weather.

While several other car manufacturers have begun

to market all-wheel drive models, Audi has decades of

quattro expertise and an unrivalled all-wheel-drive-

equipped range ensuring the best performance and safety

is available whatever model the driver chooses.

Audi Centres nationwide are celebrating quattro in

October, November and December with a 10-day event

planned for November 8-10 featuring special interactive

displays and extra demonstrator vehicles (see page 7).

Not simply for SUVs

While quattro is usually associated with SUVs and is

a standard feature in the Q5 and Q7 as well as the A4

and A6 allroad, it also provides unbeatable traction,

acceleration and hill-climbing ability on slippery or loose

surfaces in more mainstream models.

The benefits of quattro //

Audi quattro: grip, whatever the weather

Technically highly sophisticated electronics manage

engine power, distributing it efficiently and imperceptibly

between both axles for greater grip and traction with

added safety.

Tailored systems for each Audi model

The quattro systems fitted to different Audi models vary

in design dependent on the drivetrain layout.

A transverse engine installation, such as in the the

A3, A3 Sportback, Q3 and TT, uses a Haldex clutch which

reacts to variations in the rotational speeds of the front

and rear wheels.

Differing speeds, for example when one wheel loses

traction and starts to spin, creates a disparity in the

system’s hydraulic pressure, forcing the clutch plates

together to direct more drive to the non-spinning wheels.

For models where the engine is mounted

longitudinally, such as in the A4, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7,

a mechanical locking centre differential continuously

monitors road conditions to distribute drive to the wheels

with the most grip.

A strong performance advantage

The latest quattro system sets new standards for

handling, agility and steering precision in the Audi R8 and

RS series models, the highest performing models in the

Audi range.

Here, quattro works with an asymmetric/dynamic

drive distribution with a rear-biased split for optimum

enjoyment on the road with the reassuring security of

permanent all-wheel drive that’s true to the principles of

Vorsprung durch Technik.

Audi winter tyresFew preparations for winter driving have as dramatic an effect on overall control and safety as winter tyres.

They’re made using a special rubber compound and are designed for use as soon as the temperature drops below 7 Celsius.

When combined with quattro, winter tyres transform levels of grip, traction and stopping power in ice and snow, offering Audi drivers a significant safety margin in cold weather.

Audi’s range of winter tyres will help you keep going – and stopping – whether you’re faced with rain, snow or ice and may cost less than you think. Winter tyres only, or complete sets of wheels and tyres, are available to order for all models from your Audi Centre.
