Project Manager for the Lodge say’s that

the Hemlock used on the interior was great.

It has a light quality of a blend of traditional

Maple and Douglas Fir. The building was con-

structed from wood harvested from the soon to be

open 6-pak lift area, a new run for Mt. Washington.

The $1.5 million project, developed by Mt.Washington was designed

to be the home base for the more than 50 kilometres of cross-country ski

trails and 20 kilometres of snow shoe trails that make up the paradise

meadow ski park, part of the Mount Washington group of Alpine expe-

riences. Upstairs hosts the lounge, retail and foodservice area, with tech-

nical equipment support, saunas, medical and change areas located in

the lower level.

In addition the being the home range for the Strathcona Nordic Club

and the Vancouver Island Sliders Luge Club, the Raven Lodge will also

serve as the Official Training Centre for the British Columbia, Alberta and

Canadian Olympic Teams.

The Lodge has a very interesting genealogy. The wood harvested from

the side hill was broken down into components by a portable sawmill.

Then separated for use and sent to two finishing mills in the region.

Quinsam Reman of Campbell River air dried a portion of the order at its

facility in Campbell River and Woodland Flooring Kiln dried the other

portion in the Comox Valley.

The Lodge also was built to withstand a 500 lb. snow load, one of the

highest standards in British Columbia. Ben and his Brother Detlef Kunz

have been constructors with Tri Sure Holdings Limited since 1971, a

family with feet firmly planted in Campbell River and the Comox Valley

since 1952.
