Year 2 Fun Evening
Dear Parents, Carers and Children,
Well, the end of Term 5 how time flies
when you are having fun! Welcome to
Linus who has joined us in 1B. I look
forward to you and your family having a
good time here.
Yesterday, the Governors of the school
spent their time visiting all classrooms
and meeting with different groups of
children. During the afternoon,
Governors shared what they had learnt:
Our children are:
well behaved;
confident to share their ideas and
learning;
proud of their learning and
achievements;
able to clearly explain what they
have to do to learn;
responding well to the new
feedback and marking policy, and
understand it;
able to articulate what they enjoy
about school and what we could do
to make it even better;
writing well using the cursive script;
able to talk confidently about
reading and the books they’ve read;
enjoying opportunities beyond the
classroom.
I felt really proud of our children when I
heard this feedback. Well done boys and
girls and thank you to the Governors for
giving your time to the school.
I wish everyone a happy term break.
Best wishes,
John M. Stephens, Headteacher
Well done to all the 53 boys and girls who took
part in the Schools’ Challenge on The Hoe last
Sunday in the sunny, warm weather. The runners
really enjoyed the opportunity and loved the great
support all along the 1.1 mile route. Thank you to
the staff and parents who supported the event.
Winter memories
Was it really just eight weeks ago that we were
in the midst of the ‘Beast from the East’?
Inspired by the frosty conditions we
experienced, 6MT wanted to share this poem
with you:
SNOW DAY!
Glove finder Hand rubber Foot stomper Scarf snuggler
Snowflake licker Teeth chatterer
Snowman builder Boot imprinter
Sleigh rider Toboggan slider Snowball fighter Dodging master
Snow-angel maker Penguin huddler
Ice shatterer Hot chocolate guzzler
Window starer Joy maker
School closer Parent waiter

Parking around the school Again, we ask that you are considerate when
driving to school to drop off and collect your
children, and do not compromise the safety
of any of our children by stopping on the zig
zag lines, across our neighbours driveways or
by mounting the pavements. The safety of all
of our children is paramount and we would
urge you to be mindful of children and
families making their way to school on foot.
Incidents of bad parking may be reported to
the local authority and police by any member
of the public and we would urge you to park
and drive safely around the school perimeter.
Thank you for your cooperation and for
keeping our children safe.

both received a copy of the book from the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Sam Davey, at
a launch ceremony in The Plymouth Guildhall.
West Devon/Plymouth Kwik Cricket Festival - Tuesday 22nd May 2018 So early in the season – but great success already! Goosewell’s cricket champs have proven a huge hit in our
local West Devon/Plymouth competition held this week at Plympton Cricket Club.
On Tuesday, in glorious cricketing weather, eight Y5/6 boys proved that they were big hitters in the Kwik
Cricket form of the game. Having comfortably won two pool games against Woodford and Plympton St
Maurice schools, the boys had to face Mary Dean’s School in their final match.
A victory would see the team win through to the Devon County Finals. Some fantastic bowling and fielding
restricted our opposition to 202 runs. After a quick start, our runs began to dry up but some confident
batting towards the end of our innings saw Goosewell home to a slender 2 run victory with a total of 204.
The boys will now play at Newton Abbott Cricket Club later in Term 6 at the Level 3 County Finals.
Congratulations boys! Goosewell Kwik Cricket Team: Ben 6R, William 6R, Reece 6R, Toby 6C, Dylan 6C, Jack
6MT, Caiden 6C, Matthew 5S.

Plymouth Tag Rugby Festival - Wednesday 23rd May 2018
As another rugby season ends, Goosewell enjoyed a fantastic day at Plymouth’s Rugby Festival which
was hosted once more at Albion’s home of rugby, Brickfields. The ten players – made up of boys and
girls from Years 4, 5 and 6 – have been working hard all year to prepare for the big day and they did
not disappoint.
Our morning pool matches involved games against five other schools and the results were as follows:
After a sun-drenched lunch, the afternoon pool matches were announced, and the team came up
against some very stiff opposition. The team tried hard to recapture their morning glories, but the
heat and tiredness crept into their game (unsurprising after eight games in the heat!). Afternoon
scores were as follows:
In all the games, tries were scored aplenty and the wonderful team ethos that was on show by
Goosewell meant that they were shared around by all players, testament to the teamwork the
children have generated over their time together. You produced some wonderful, free flowing rugby
that was admired and commented on by many officials and onlookers. Congratulations to all of our
team.
A huge thank you must go out to the fantastic support given to the girls and boys on the day by a
fantastic set of parents. Your voices of encouragement made the day even more of a success – thank
you!
