From the Principal…. SCHOOL COUNCIL
Elections
This year we will not have to hold an election for School Council as we received four nominations for the four vacant positions.
Congratulations to Slobodanka Stojkovic, Sarah Kitchen, Andrew Sirianni and Emily Waghorne who will all take their
two-year terms as of the next meeting on Monday March 16th. We still have one vacancy that is classed as a community
member. This position can be taken up by any member of our school or broader community. If you are interested in being
considered for this position please let me know.
I would like to thank the retiring members: Sara Reid, Glen Stokes and Kate Wood for the contribution they have made to
School Council over the past two years. Your commitment has been greatly appreciated.
The first meeting of the new School Council is the Annual General Meeting on March 16 and starts at 6.30 pm with the Principal
presiding until the new office bearers are elected.
As School Council is an elected group and must abide by DET regulations visitors are welcome to attend any of the meetings
however you must let me know prior to the meeting that you will be attending. If you would like to attend please email me at
Meeting
On Monday evening we held the last meeting of the current council. At the meeting we discussed items including:
The Newsletter - Are people reading it and if not, why not? We are going to do a survey for parents to provide us with some
feedback.
Basketball court update - We approved the first section of the works which is the revamping the garden areas to the north and
east of the courts. The works will start towards the end of this term.
Building Update - The tender for the roof works has closed and the architect and the VSBA have made their recommendation for
the preferred contactor. At this stage it is projected that the works will start during the school holidays and take 20 working days
to complete.
Policies - We are continually up dating our policies in line with DET requirements. These policies are uploaded on to the school
website. Recently the Mobile Phone and CCTV policies have been included.
Sustainability - Our sustainability group have developed a document which outlines their commitment to embedding sustainable
practices at school. One of the initiatives is to have the children take home all of their food scraps with them each day; this should
cut down a huge amount of waste within the school.

Comedy Night - We have booked our annual Comedy Night for Friday August 21st. At this stage we haven’t locked in the
comedians however once they are booked I will let you know. Keep the date free you don’t want to miss out on a great night!
GRADE 6 CAMP
Next week 88 of our Grade 6 students along with nine staff will be going to Canberra. It will be a jam-packed experience, which
will see us visit many of Canberra’s major attractions. I will be attending the camp with the children. In my absence, our ever
reliable Assistant Principal Mark Smith will be “in charge”, as the Preps say.
CHOOSING A SECONDARY SCHOOL
Time is fast approaching for our Grade 6 parents to make the final decision as to which secondary school their child will attend
next year. All of our local secondary schools send us information about Information Sessions, Open Days and Tours which we put
in our school newsletter. I suggest that parents keep an eye out for the information and ensure that you look at as many schools as
you can before you make the final decision. I strongly suggest that parents of the Grade 5 children also start looking at schools this
year as it will give you time to visit schools before having to make your decision.
Don’t be swayed by what other parents say or past reputations, the best way to make a choice is to be informed and the only way
to do that is to visit the schools yourself.
Regards,
Janet Paterson,
Principal.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS
The Federal Government requires people who are working with children to have a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
All parents who do any type of voluntary work in the school must have a valid WWCC.
You can find the application form online at http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au.
The form needs to be lodged at your local Post Office. When applying please make sure you get a Volunteer WWCC. These
are issued at no cost to parents. When you have applied for the check please send a copy to school so that we can update our
records.

Bushfire Fundraiser ….
Early in the term, a group of Grade 6 students decided to raise money for the Salvation Army Bushfire
appeal. Archie, Joseph, Sebastian, Barnaby, Charlie, Ned and Max got together to brainstorm
some ideas of how best to raise the money at school. They decided to sell popcorn, soda stream drinks
and Zooper Doopers. They sold these to the Grade 4, 5 and 6 students over three days and raised a
whopping $692.55 for the appeal.
A HUGE thank you to the boys and each of their parents that helped to organise and sell the food and
drinks. Well done!
