The nursery has a fresh coat of paint and looks/feels so fresh and clean! We thank Mark Fowler and his crew at Janwyck Decorating, Cleveland for their treat- ing and painting. We’ll continue to monitor the conditions in there, but believe that with our efforts to reduce moisture, outside and in, that the room will con- tinue to be attractive and healthy. Trinity Hall Fireplace The United Methodist Women have recently updated the fireplace in Trinity Hall, adding glass doors and having the gas logs serviced. It looks lovely and should be a better source of heat come winter. Thanks, ladies, for giving this the attention it needed. Bible Dedication There is a new Bible display in place in our sanctuary, on the table just as one comes in the main en- try. The Bible, brass stand, bookmark and table runner were given, “to the glory of God by Jim and Shirley Gailey in honor of their grandchildren, Seth Billmire, and Ashlyn & Logan Gailey.” May it al- ways remind us of the importance of the Word of God to the people of God! Thank you, Jim & Shirley. Pastor Changes Each year approximately one-fourth of the pastors of our Conference are appointed to new charges. Here are some changes that might especially interest you: Our former pastor, Dr. Becki Jones, is going through three changes: she has ended her disability leave (having experienced much improvement); she retired; and, as many retired pastors do, she has began serving a small congregation (Emerson, near Cartersville) who cannot afford a full-time pastor. And our former pastor, Dr. Lee Almy, also re- tired; he will also continue in ministry, through hospice. In our immediate area, Cleveland UMC received a new pastor, Rev. Tom McElroy, formerly serving the Second Avenue UMC in Rome, Georgia. Summer Refreshments If you and or family/friends or a class or group would like to serve refreshments one Sunday follow- ing the Morning Service, just check with the church office to make sure no one else has such plans. We would enjoy the goodies and the added fellowship it makes possible!

Calendar FYI If you noticed, Trinity’s online calendar never changed from the one we’ve been using for some time to the promised Google for-mat. We ran into problems using the Google calendar. If you are “savvy” in the ways of Google, we invite you to come help us. Otherwise, we’ll be sticking with the tried-and-true.

Children’s Ministry News Jennifer Collins

Vacation Bible School Thank you to everyone who helped during Va-cation Bible School. On Sunday, July 1, we’ll be presenting a slideshow and sharing our songs. During VBS the children learned about a very important mission project called "Squash Malaria" with a goal to raise money to buy mosquito nets to protect children in malaria infested Mali, Africa. The children raised $182, enough to buy 30 nets. Ask your child what they learned (our theme was to trust God no matter what) and remind them to continue to pray for the children in Africa.

What We’re Doing in Children’s Church My first Sundays with the children in children's church have been wonderful! Trinity has a great group of children. I wanted to share with the congregation a little bit about our program. The curriculum I am using is Gospel Light’s Big Book of Discipleship Basics. It encourages the students to learn ways to build discipleship into their lives by accepting Jesus, becoming a disciple, depending on Jesus, getting into his word, using their gifts, and talking to God. This month we will follow David's journey as he defeats Goli-ath and soon becomes the new king of Israel. The children will be discussing what "giants" they have to defeat in life and how God will light their path for them. Our Bible verse is "For The Battle Is The Lord's” (I Samuel 17:47). Along with the program they are memorizing the books of the Bible, so please remind your child to bring their Bible to church every Sunday. The program is for children K through 5th grade; we are making sure the nursery is staffed for younger children. And we need and appreciate our volunteers!

Report on the 2012 North Georgia Annual Conference Lamar Gailey, Trinity’s Lay Member of the Conference The theme for the annual conference this year was “Seeing the World through the Waters of Your Baptism”. Dr. Eddie Fox, World Director of World Methodist Evangelism, delivered the opening sermon and challenged the participants to take the theme of the conference to heart and remember our baptism. He stressed as Christians that we are ambassadors for our God in our daily lives. He suggested that our churches today struggle with “truth decay” and it is the truth that will set us free. “If I am ok and you are ok, then who is causing the problems of our world?” He further stated that the world needs healing, hope and salvation and as Christians it is our role as ambassadors to bring this hope and healing to the world as we spread the word of Jesus Christ. It is through the waters of our baptism that we have been named, claimed and called by God. As Christian leaders, we must respond to God’s call to become disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and world. With this challenging sermon, the conference began showing delegates and clergy how seeing the world through the wa-ters of our baptism could enhance the ministry of our local churches as well as the administration of the Methodist Church. The North Georgia Conference is continuing to look at ways to reduce the budget and lessen expenses that come to the local church through apportionments. Bishop Watson is reorganizing his office and reducing staff in an effort to ease the financial burden on the local church. The conference approved the 2013 budget in the amount of $24,042,554. This is the fourth year in a row that the budget has been decreased from the previous year. Simpsonwood remains a concern of the conference. The conference continues to service a six million debt and provide $500,000 assistance to the operational budget of Simpsonwood. Henry Bowden, chair of the Simpsonwood Task Force, re-ported that efforts are underway to determine what options the conference has in the disposition of the property. A legal opinion has been requested from the courts to determine if the conference could sell the property and if so how the receipts from the sale would be distributed. Until that opinion is received, nothing can be done. The National Park Service and Gwinnett County Commission have expressed interest in acquiring the property. The tenure of the task force was extended for another year to bring a report back to the 2013 Annual Conference. The United Methodist Women reported that through the efforts of the local UMWs that they were able to assemble 952 school bags for UMCOR and would assemble 500 more at a July event. Trinity UMW provided 24 school bags and 100 packs of notebook paper for this effort. Action Ministries will conduct an event called “Action Dash” at several locations throughout North Georgia to raise funds and create awareness of the hunger and housing problems in our conference. Gainesville will be one of the sites for the “Action Dash” on Labor Day. This may be an effort that our Trinity family could be participants. There are several committee reports that will be made available to the committee chairs at Trinity. There are changes that have been approved by the conference that will impact the functions of these committees and Trinity. The Conference approved, after much discussion both pro and con, a Resolution in Support of Repealing the Georgia Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011. This resolution will be forwarded to Governor Nathan Deal. The 2013 North Georgia Annual Conference will be held June 11-13, 2013, at the Classic Center in Athens. Thank you for allowing me to represent Trinity at the North Georgia Annual Conference.
