work day at clubhouse

We needed to have a work day at clubhouse to move the

pallets from the clubhouse yard to the hole the dozer made to

put all the trees he plowed down.

This needed to be done before he covers it up, oops to late

The plan was to be at the clubhouse Saturday Dec 31 at 9 am

This should not take too long with many hands, Jason is bringing

his trailer to load, move, and unload the pallets,

When we are done you are welcome to stick around and chat,

Work some HF on the club station, or whatever we get into :)

Here are some pics from the workday

5 MHz for Ireland The Irish Radio Transmitters Society have just announced that Irish radio amateurs can use the WRC-15 band of 5.3515 MHz to 5.3665 MHz with immediate effect. No application is necessary and the power limit is 15 watts. More Information - http://ei7gl.blogspot.ie/2016/12/irish-radio-amateurs-gain-secondary.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Australian 60m Band Although the updated Australian Radiofrequency Spectrum Plan commences on the first of January – the Australian Communications and Media Authority has many T’s to cross and many I’s to dot before we can begin to use the new 60 metre Amateur band at 5.3 megahertz.

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU), at the World Radiocommunication Conference in November 2015 (WRC-15), approved the worldwide allocation of 5351.5 to 5366.5 kHz to the Amateur Service on a secondary basis. The Amateur Service is not the only one affected, and many other radiocommunications stakeholders have to wait for the administrative and regulatory details to be updated before the changed provisions of the Australian Radiofrequency Spectrum Plan 2017 – posted on the ACMA website in the week before Christmas – can be exploited. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ofcom (UK) Changes Callsign Policy Until September 2016 Ofcom would issue lists of unallocated amateur radio call signs to help people select a new call, this has now changed. In December 2016, UK Amateur Radio Operator Mike Lewis wrote to Ofcom asking for a list of available callsigns. “We do not hold a list of call signs that are available. Due to a system change, the assignment of call signs is now done using an algorithm rather than “grabbing” from a list.” — Julia Snape Ofcom List of available callsigns - https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0014/90221/Request-for-Information.pdf --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 GHz for 3 Euros Dutch Amateur / Ham Radio operator Peter Knol PA1SDB has enabled a 10 GHz transmitter with weak software beacon Opera, costing €3. Peter describes how he used the €3 HB100 Miniature Microwave Motion Sensor which is an X-Band Bi-Static Doppler transceiver module. Using the free Opera software and dish antennas he was able to decode the 10 GHz signal at distances up to 32km. FCC Rejects Amplifier Waiver Request FCC has denied a request from Expert Linears for an exception waiver of 15 dB gain restriction on linear amplifiers The waiver request, filed in June 2016, would have allowed Expert Linears to import an amplifier capable of exceeding the current 15 dB gain limitation as it awaits FCC action on its April petition (RM-11767) to revise the same Amateur Service rules. That petition remains pending. ““In light of the conflicting comments regarding the desirability of eliminating the 15 dB limitation, we conclude that waiving the limitation at this stage of the rulemaking proceeding would prejudice the rulemaking proceeding and prematurely dispose of commenters’ concerns. Moreover, we agree with FlexRadio that granting Expert’s waiver request while the rulemaking petition remains pending would provide an unfair market advantage for one equipment model over other manufacturers’ RF power amplifiers that would still be limited by [the existing rules].”” — FCC Full ARRL story - http://www.arrl.org/news/view/fcc-denies-expert-linears-request-for-waiver-of-15-db-rule-petition-pending --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Propagation prediction tool Area coverage maps and point-to-point HF propagation predictions. I can put this in my shirt pocket without having it weigh the shirt down, and the antenna only slightly sticks out the top and is barely noticeable at all. The quality of the sound was a little unexpected for a unit in this price range, and it can really have some volume when needed without breaking up. The case does seem rugged and can handle drops without a problem. The instruction booklet is severely lacking in operating instructions.

Two things I had to find out for myself: 1) Press and hold the MINUS (-) button until it beeps, let it go and you are in scan mode, the green LED will blink while in scan mode. To exit scan mode, press and hold the button again and wait for two short beeps, let go and you are no longer scanning. 2) Press and hold the PLUS (+) button, you have now opened up the squelch, let go to close the squelch and go back to your programmed setting. The battery is lasting quite a long time, but then again, I am not using it to transmit. It appears I will get 48 hours at the very least from a charge on the stock battery. The software shows I can enter RX and TX frequencies along with the proper tones in each of the 16 channels, along with either low or high power. As for the power output, I don't know for sure, their information only says less than 5 watts.

Add the 220 Mhz ham-band to your WLN KD-C1 mini radio

Found this at http://www.foxhollow.ca/WLN/ A very simple software modification

to your installed copy of the programming

software will allow you to enter frequencies

in the 220 MHz hand band.

Quick How to:

• Install the factory software: KD-C1_SETUP_2016-05-23.exe

• Copy this new config.ini to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\KD-C1\config.ini HINT: right-click on the link and save-as to your desktop. Then copy the new config.ini on top of the existing file otherwise Windows might block the changes.

• Start the program and enter your frequencies!

Ham Software

Management Restructure at HRD Following recent customer service issues, Ham Radio Deluxe have restructured their management team. ““Ham Radio Deluxe software would have been abandoned in 2011 without Rick’s partnership. Rick’s day-to-day leadership in running the business has contributed to the vitality and functionality of Ham Radio Deluxe.”” — HRD co-owner Dr Michael Carper. Rick Ruhl, a co-owner since buying the code base in 2011 has decided to pursue other interests. The company has acted after users who publicly posted negative reviews of the product suffered when their software licence was disabled remotely. Ruhl accepted responsibility for the poor customer service, initially blaming outsourced customer service issues. There have been claims that Ruhl had threatened customers who had spoken critically of the product with legal action. Ruhl has suggested that his health and medication had affected his judgement and that he is seeking medical advice. A new end user agreement will be sent to customers to advise the changes the company will make to resolve the issues ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Repeaterbook.com 1-15-2017 Caught someone trying to steal data from Repeaterbook.com in the New Jersey area this week. They were using a Verizon hotspot to try to cover their tracks. The website security tools caught and immediately banned the IP address. We caught RFinder stealing our data about 10 months ago so we put special tools in to combat this activity. They were very

unapologetic and even told one of our users, "It was legal." Not saying it was them, but someone tried to get it. Effectively immediately, the North America talkgroup (TG3) will return to its original purpose as a wide-area talkgroup available to all North American hams for general QSO at any time. We believe that the North America talkgroup is more effective as a meeting place for all hams, rather than only as a calling channel. Accordingly, we encourage all hams to use this talkgroup for general QSOs spanning across multiple North American repeaters as a way to bridge the distance between us. In addition, we kindly ask that hams respect the fact that this talkgroup is widely distributed and that they keep conversations to a reasonable length and take regular pauses to accommodate others that might want to join the QSO. Remember, User Accessible English 1 (TG113) and User Accessible English 2 (TG123) are available on many systems as talkgroups to continue your conversation if you feel that it is going to be lengthy in nature. Hope to hear you all on North America soon! Best regards & 73’s! The DMR-MARC Administrative Team ----------------------------------------------------------------------
