WELCOME NEW RESCUE FAMILIES

Mary Jane Mary Jane Mary Jane Mary Jane ———— a life saved and a life saver a life saved and a life saver a life saved and a life saver a life saved and a life saver 2002200220022002———— 2014 2014 2014 2014

Mary Jane was already seven when she came into our rescue as result of a di-

vorce and a new baby. Her surrendering family described her as “ VERY loving and has a funny

maternal instinct. She will reward anyone who is willing to take the time to be her "mom & dad" with

unconditional love as she has with us over the last four years..” That certainly proved to be the case

after she was placed with the Lawrence family who had lost their beloved Flex (another SMBC rescue).

In September 2009 Mrs. Lawrence emailed me with these notes, “I wanted to tell you that Mary was

sent to us for a reason. If it was not for her, Wayne and I could not have made it through July. Wayne

had to have four bypasses . Mary Jane was by my side and helped me through it all . She is so full of love

and kindness. She is now by Wayne’s side every second and giving him all her love. She has been a

blessing to all of us. She is our whole life. Thank you for helping us find this pretty little girl. I know God sent her to us. She takes

Wayne on walks every day. I do not know who enjoys the walks the most Wayne or Mary Jane. The boys also love her so much.

She cannot go to bed without them giving her a kiss. Thank you again for all you do for the Bull Dog Club.

Sept 19, 2009

You know she should of got the award for taking care of her daddy. She stays with Wayne like a little mother hen. She helped

him so much to get back on his feet. Mary Jane makes him walk at least 4 times a day. She is the most loving, and kind little girl I

have ever seen. I could not have done it without my girl Mary Jane.

Mary Jane developed cancer and crossed over during surgery to remove the tumor on Oct. 17.

BuckusBuckusBuckusBuckus was a welcome addition to the DeWitt family DeWitt family DeWitt family DeWitt family who came to Tennessee from Georgia. While Buckus was a faithful Tennessee fan he quickly ad-justed to being an UGA supporter ! His new family sent us his news: “ It amazes me how great Fuzz and Buckus are getting along! When you said that God helps you place these dogs you were so right. ! He is so perfect for us and our family and we are absolutely in love with him!

Jewel and Sandra, Steve Jewel and Sandra, Steve Jewel and Sandra, Steve Jewel and Sandra, Steve Peebles and their family Peebles and their family Peebles and their family Peebles and their family fell for Jewel even though she had been diagnosed with kidney failure. The condition can be managed with a careful diet which the family agreed to maintain. Jewel was a very needy Bulldog with separation anxiety. She needed a family that could give her constant re-assurance. The Peebles family was a perfect fit. Here are some of the notes that the family have sent: “At the vet she made new friends with all sizes and shapes of dogs and one 16-year-old cat. She impressed everyone there with her singing and won everyone over and they all fell instantly in love with her. Doctor Hannah, and the rest of the staff, were very impressed with her records. Dr. Hannah said she was very impressed with Jewel's overall health. Said Jewel was in better shape than most 'healthy' Bulldogs she sees in this area. She recom-mended leaving her diet as is and of course keeping a close check on her food and water intake. Jewel has had a bath this morning, and wanted to show off her new harness. Of course, as you can tell she does not get any Loving... Lol... She is so happy she is beside herself. Storm is even trying to get her to sing when she wants him to rub her head. Socks is warming up to her, slowly, no more hissing. We are so blessed we have her!!! (Rescue News continued on pg.4)

Welcome Linda and Troy Dresser and Maggie. Welcome Linda and Troy Dresser and Maggie. Welcome Linda and Troy Dresser and Maggie. Welcome Linda and Troy Dresser and Maggie. This sweet girl came into rescue from Melbourne Florida where a loving lady got her out of a very bad situation. Maggie is cer-tainly one of the sweetest Bullies we have ever had in rescue. She just craved attention and just wanted to be loved. The Dresser family is thrilled to have a great companion and their other Bullie, Bud is happy to have such an agreeable and friendly playmate.

W e are so grateful to all the caring people who contributed to get Button this far along since June. However even with all the generous do-nations, our funds are running behind and we have had to put Button’s remaining treatments on hold. Button is doing so much better that he has been brought up to date on all his vaccines ! The vet says that he is now healthy enough for surgery. He will be neutered and he also needs entropian surgery. This will cost an additional $425.00. We have so far spent $1242.00(!)on his vet bills and meds but all the news is good! Here is Angie’s report from his last check-up: “1. Button's skin is about the same. Dr. Strunk says he will probably never get hair back and if he does it will take a

very long time. He is still periodically itchy so Dr. Strunk prescribed a spray for him. He will continue on the Zyrtec for

allergies. His skin is in good shape where his neuter surgery will take place. He will continue with his twice weekly

baths.

2. He had his last distemper booster so he is fully vaccinated now.

3. His ears are about the same. There is still a small pocket of bacteria in the left ear, but Dr. Strunk says that may be

his norm. She advised at this point to discontinue the ear drops and just clean the ears 2-3 times a week.

4. His eyes are about the same. We use Genteel eye lubricating drops and Neopolydex eye ointment.”

This is the best part of the report !

“Button is discovering home life - hates the vacuum, would prefer I not use the coffee grinder, KNOWS where the dog

food is and has a favorite blanket. He loves to run from the bathtub to his futon and blanket and rub all over it and

grunt and groan! I have allowed him some access to my little dogs and he just ignores them.”.

If you would like to help Button with his remaining vet care you can send a check to SMBC Rescue.
