WHAT MUST BE DONE The Army Engineers to build a ship canal from the Sea of Cortez to the Rio Grande. The main purpose of the canal project is to benefit from the growing traffic demand.

HOW IT WORKS Construction jobs will be created by the project. Canal revenues will go toward road projects, public schools, police protection, and other government services.

THE RESULTS Government contracts for minority and women-owned businesses. New towns will make the deserts bloom in Arizona and New Mexico.

POSITIVE IMPACT U.S. imports from China will continue to grow. Creates high paying union jobs in port operations.

NEGATIVE IMPACT Drug smuggling limits growth. 700-mile border security will not stabilize Mexico.
