INTEGRATED STUDIES PULSE – Issue 11, May 2019
Making May Day Special
Labour Day is celebrated on 1st May, and, at The OASIS, students
of the Spread Cheer team left no stone unturned to make this day
special and memorable for all the helping staff on our campus.
Preparations started on Saturday, 27th April, by making paper
baskets and using all kinds of recycled material to decorate them.
By the end of the day, we could make beautiful and colourful
baskets, and earned good memories while crafting them. Teachers
also helped and joined hands to spread the service vibe across the
campus joyfully.
On 30th April, students invited all the support staff with those
baskets and cupcake served in it as a small token of gratitude. This
was followed by orientation of the team, with the intention to
sensitise them with the importance of this day, so that they serve
them on May day with humbleness, care and love which the helping
staff shower on us every day.
On 1st May, Wednesday, students were asked to report at the
skating rink at 11.45 am. They spread the mats and kept a plate,
glass, and spoon besides each mat, ready for the lunch. They
welcomed everybody by tying moli (thread) on their wrists and
served them lunch with full enthusiasm. Students were excited and
they enjoyed this service to the fullest. They thanked everybody
with folded hands for coming. It was indeed a great experience
where actually the team could spread cheer with their service on
every face.

Rabindra Jayanti
On 9th May, our school celebrated Rabindra Jayanti. It was the day
on which Rabindranath Tagore was born. Rabindranath Tagore is
famous for his poems, stories, plays and songs in Bengali. Tagore
was the composer of the national anthem of India and Bangladesh.
He was a great artist.
To celebrate this day our music teacher, Mrs. Anita Sharma, sang
a song written by Rabindranath Tagore. The crucible was filled with
loud applause for the beautiful song sung. The students of Prassatti
House conducted the assembly and they gave us a brief of his life.
Our art teacher, Mr. Manoj Rawat, had sketched a portrait of
Rabindranath Tagore which was displayed. Rabindranath Tagore
was truly a brilliant man!

My School Uniform – Class V A Production
The drama show which was held on 10th May was named ‘My
School Uniform’. This drama featured two children, namely Parvati
Chopra and Ibrahim Khan, who went to a new school. The drama
revolved around their first day in school where they met their new
class mates who bully and bother them throughout the day. Parvati
was taught wrong things and offered spicy ginger while Ibrahim
experienced being locked up in a class room. As a result, they were
trapped in their various schemes. In the end it all comes to the
notice of the Headmaster and the teacher who calmed the children
and addressed the whole class. The teacher asked the class why

they did all this, but the new children did not want to embarrass their
fellow classmates so they made sure to dismiss it so that none of
their new friends were in any trouble. As a result, the students of their
class becomes friends with them. It was really fun to do these drama
presentations but there was a lot of hard work that went behind its
success. Jaaniya Kaur Arora

Smile, it is time for dental check-up
A dental check-up was held on the 6th ,8h and 10th of May. Dr Pooja
Raturi had come to check our oral hygiene. During our morning
assembly she told us what we can do to keep our teeth healthy.
Some Ankuram children were scared of the check-up so she told
them that the dental check-up is nothing to be afraid of. A class at a
time, children went to get their teeth checked. Ma’am noted down
what problems we had in the teeth and gave a written prescription to
the children. We were gifted a dental care kit at the end of the check-
up.

There was much learning from this. Now we are aware of the care
we need to take to keep our teeth healthy for this life time.

Heart to Heart
On the eleventh of May the senior students along with the students of the activity, Spread Cheer, were taken to an old age home called “Prem Dham”. This old age home is situated in Dalanwala in Dehradun. The students were able to meet elderly people who were unwanted and were left there by their own children. To cheer them up the children sang songs on their request. We had carried some rusk biscuits along and shared them with the elderly people. Looking at their condition all the students were heartbroken but they made sure that they put a smile on each ones faces. After this heart wrenching visit all the children were willing to visit the old age home regularly. This trip taught all the children a very important lesson- Respect your parents and love them with all your heart.

When words fail, music speaks
William Shakespeare Music is more than just some rhyming words with background music. Music is more like a tool to help express oneself when we fail to convey our feelings to others in the form of words. The students, here at The OASIS, have always been encouraged by our music teacher, Mr. Jonathan Paul, to work hard, figure things out on our own and learn from the mistakes we make while working towards our goal. I think it’s safe to say, that the students who participated in the very first solo singing competition, conducted here at The OASIS, on the 16th of May, showcased just that.

Preparations for the competition had started almost two weeks prior
to the day. Four students were selected from classes ranging from
VI upwards to represent their respective houses. The students were
given the songs they would be singing at the competition, and got to
work on them. The four songs were very different, in terms of genre.
They included, pop, rock and country. After two weeks of practice
that seemed to have just flown by, the students arrived at school,
cracking their knuckles, nervous for the big day. After all, you never
do know what exactly will happen out there, on that stage, no matter
how much you may prepare and plan.
With not much delay, after the parents and students were seated,
the competition began. The three guest judges were introduced and
the so was the order of singers. All the vocalists did an exceptional
job with vocals, showmanship, improvisation and presentation. The
OASIS school band, “TYB”, played the music for all four houses.
Everyone surely put up a great and entertaining show. While the
results were being tabulated, one of the guest judges, Mr. Marshall
Tyagi, sang us a snippet of “Rolling in the Deep”, by the famous
singer, Adele. Finally, it was time for the results to be announced. It
was a nerve wracking few minutes before they were declared by our
Headmaster.
The positions of the singers along with the songs were as follows:
Jishnu Rana – Riptide by Vance Joy
Tarana Kapur – Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns n’ Roses
Zainab Fatima Ali – Let her go by Passenger
Arjun Arya Dutta – Rolling in the deep by Adele
The program was a great success and the students received very
positive feedback from the audience. A special thanks to Mr.
Jonathan Paul and Ms. Zara Fatima Ali, without whom this program
would not have been possible.

Bullying – Class V B Production
Class VB presented a play - Bullying on 16th of May. It was scripted by Ms. Shweta Vij, our drama teacher. Everyone practiced hard to
perfect their role. As there were many new students participating in the play, many were nervous while practicing, but gradually everyone overcame their nervousness.
The main aim of the play was to make all aware of the ill effects of bullying and teasing, and to make students confident. Our play was successful, and many parents of students of class VB came to watch the play and enjoyed. The characters were the -victims, bullies, parents, friends, voices and teachers. The play showed us that no matter how you look, it is always about how you react and behave. There was a huge round of applause at the end of the play. For our success I would like to thank Ms. Shweta Vij and Mrs. Divya Singh, our class teacher.
