PRESIDENTS REPORT There’s been a fair bit of behind the scenes action this month, with the Show ‘n Shine this coming Sunday, the Mandurah Mob Meander coming up in about 10 days, and the 2 Day Rally less than a month away. Lots of work by lots of people. Although it may seem early days yet, your committee has been getting ready for the committee elections at the AGM in July by trying to simplify the job descriptions and

reallocate some of the committee jobs that have to be undertaken to keep the club moving forward. It’s mostly complete, but it’s still a work in progress, and by next month, I hope to have all the committee job descriptions finalised and ready to go. By keeping the jobs as simple as possible, I hope to be able to get more members willing to put their hands up to help run the club. As we all know, the club doesn’t run itself. So, watch this space next month and be ready to volunteer for a committee position. The club needs your help. Thank you. Show ‘n Shine. Starting at 9am on Sunday 18 February here at the clubrooms. Please bring along your best bike, or one that hasn’t been out of the shed in years, or something unusual that we perhaps haven’t seen before. Maybe even one you are working on and need a bit of advice. There will be a prize for the machine voted as most popular by those attending. Sausage sizzle provided, Bob and Wilma will be burning the bangers for us, so don’t eat too much breakfast! You’ll probably get some cheek from Bob, but the snags will taste good! If anyone is willing to bring along a veteran machine, or one with a foot operated clutch and hand gear change that they’d be happy to let others have a go on, under instruction of course, that would be interesting. A Swap Meet will also be happening so if you have any usable motorcycle related stuff you don’t need, bring it along. You can sell that and take home twice as much of someone else’s junk! 85+ PDA’s It is now official. As of the 5th February, riders attaining the age of 85 years will no

longer have to take a practical driving assessment. I think the club should formally recognise the fact that our License Liaison Officer, Jeff Smith, along with members of the VMCC and other clubs around the state, have pulled off a big victory over stubborn and often disinterested officialdom, particularly here in Bunbury. Everyone, please show your gratitude for the determination that Jeff and the others have shown in bringing this matter to a successful conclusion. CAPTAINS REPORT 2/18 Midweek Ride, 10/1/18. 21 Riders 1Passenger The ride today was to Yarloop 2 years after the devastating fires ravaged the town. The group travelled thru Leschenault, Harvey/Myalup Rd. Government Rd and did a little meander around Harvey before re-joining Government Rd continuing onto Johnson Rd and into Yarloop where Margaret & I had morning tea waiting. As the weather was very pleasant everyone enjoyed the ride and commented how sad to see no trace of the historic workshops apart from some salvaged burnt pieces. Again, thanks to Margaret for her assistance. New Year Ride, 14/1/18. 25 bikes 5 Passengers This year’s ride almost had a back-up customer before getting away when Graham Lister discovered he had a flat battery however, Lindsay happened to have jumper leads so he was able to get going. The route took the riders around Dardanup West, Dardanup, Burekup thru to Brunswick where Leigh and Neville G. were waiting to scan bikes.

Everyone had been warned not to eat anything because Faye had prepared a veritable feast for lunch. On leaving they headed out towards Wellesley, back to South West Hwy, Benger, Harvey thru to Forrest Hwy, back to Wellesley and then Kemerton where John & I were waiting to do final scan of bikes (39C no shade) after which the final leg was to Leschenault for lunch where Joe Z. managed to run out of petrol in the driveway (good Planning Joe). Thanks to the Gellard’s Lindsay, Josh & Ringo for back-up, to Margaret Green for helping Faye and also enormous thanks to Faye & Ross for the magnificent lunch. Busso Mid-week Ride Report 17/1/18 It was a perfect day for the Scots! Nice Scotch mist which deterred most of our riders around here, but not one from Bunbury, they missed out on a good ride, a little bit of mist at the start but ok by the time we got to the Pepi Café, 85ks later. We had the grand total of 4 bikes turn up (one from Bunbury) for the ride and a couple of well-wishers namely Phil who brought Brian Green along as he is on the sick list and can’t ride at present, he informs us that he will be back on bike in a few months. We did a meander around the back roads of Busselton ending at the Pepi Café in the Busselton light industrial area where we enjoyed a coffee and some goodies. From there we headed home. Peter Whiteside Mid-week Ride, 24/1/18. 16 Riders 1 Passenger Vice-Captain Leigh organised todays ride leading the merry band of riders to Capel Bakery. Fortunately, he had repaired his speedo, so the bikes travelled at a reasonable speed unlike last time he took riders to Capel.

Australia Day 26/1/2018 Straya Day started off a nice cool morning, at Settlers Park cooking was under way, a donation was all that was needed for a cooked breakfast. 27 starters for the run which took us through Dardanup, Ferguson Valley, Preston and finished in Donnybrook car park. Just a little ride around 70km. Good to see few veteran machines on the run. Only 1 bike was needed for the backup trailer for a broken exhaust and then had to suffer John's (JC) bad Dad jokes that will teach ya. The exhaust on the postie bike broke and fell down activating the rear brake, nice broggie Leith. I got a nose full of rubber smoke. She held on and moved to the side of the road and John pulled over, all good, so on to Donny Brook. Learnt what I can do to make a better run next year. Thanks for turning up ride. David Lind Coastal Run. 4/2/18. 53 Riders 7 Passengers What a great day for a ride, Darryl & Jenny certainly knew how to order perfect weather this year. Leaving Capel Tavern, we travelled Ludlow Rd Nth, Port Geographe, Busselton, West Busselton to The Fat Chef café for a morning tea break which was a magnificent sight with all the bikes parked under a huge oak tree. On leaving the café we travelled out from Vasse along Kalgorup then rode around Jindong, Treeton, Bussell Hwy eventually stopping at Gracetown for a 15-minute pit stop. After which the group headed back to Caves Rd then meandered back to Vasse finally ending in West Busselton where Jenny and her team had lunch ready and

waiting I was a bit apprehensive about how long it would take with 60+ people converging all at once however Jenny and Co had everything running like clockwork it was amazing the organisation. Once again thanks to Darryl & Jenny for being perfect hosts, this event is always one of the best organised thanks to their planning. Thanks again to Lindsay & Josh for providing back-up. Busso Mid-week Ride 7/2/18 The weather man said it was going to rain on this day, but he changed his mind and sent us a perfect day! 28 bikes turned up for the ride, 3 of which were visitors so a good turnout. We headed out Vasse Hwy stopping at Nannup for fuel and a leg stretch. From there we headed towards Bridgetown turning into Maranup Ford Rd going through Greenbushes then on to Balingup for morning tea. After our nice feed of coffee and pies (pies are always good at Balingup) the mob split up heading home in all directions, some going via Nannup, some going via Cundinup Rd, some via Upper Capel Rd and some heading straight home. Unfortunately, Dave Singleton who headed home via Nannup, Mowen Rd and Jindong Treeton Rd lost control of his bike on a bit of badly cutup road on Jindong/Treeton Rd and crashed. Fortunately, his injuries and not too bad, he has a broken bone in his foot, abrasions and a crushed finger. His foot is in plaster and thinks he will be off work for about 6 weeks. Could have been a lot worse had he not been wearing the right gear. That put a bit of a dampener on what was a very pleasant ride. Peter Whiteside.
