The Official Newsletter of NAMI Westchester, Inc. July/August 2018
FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SHARON MCCARTHY I had the pleasure to honor 76 program volunteers at our Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition
Event on June 6, 2018 at Scarsdale Woman’s Club. We could not possibly do all we do at NAMI
Westchester without this dedicated group.
Thanks to the commitment of our program volunteers, we were able to:
Support 675 people in our Family & Friends and NAMI Connection support groups
Educate 35 people in our Family-to-Family and Peer-to-Peer courses
Provide 65 In Our Own Voice presentations, reaching more than 900 people
Deliver 163 Ending the Silence presentations in schools. We reached a milestone this year of having
educated more than 10,000 youth since we started offering this program in 2015.
Present to 45 community groups, reaching more than 850 people
Have tables at 21 community health and wellness events
I would like acknowledge our staff, Karin and Patrice, who every day answers the HelpLine calls we get in the office. This past year
they answered more than 900 calls, during which they provided resource information as well as hope. Please share our HelpLine
phone number with anyone you feel who could benefit from it.
I strongly believe that the way to end stigma is through education. If we are going to bring down the suicide rate, especially in young
people, everyone needs to know the warning signs and what to do. This is what we at NAMI Westchester do every day.

WRAPPING UP NAMIWALKS WESTCHESTER 2018
Volunteers are the heart of NAMIWalks. They are our ambassadors, sharing the NAMI message throughout their com-munities and bringing help and hope to thousands. They are the people who make our walk day happen, by folding T-shirts, hanging directional signage, setting up refreshments, organizing children’s activities, as well as cleaning it all at the end. This year, dozens of individuals made the best of a wet and windy morning for the sake of the NAMI Westchester mission and for all the people we have helped and we have yet to help. Hope was present at our walk, and it continues to shine in our dedicated volunteers’ hearts. For all of that time and dedication, we are incredibly grateful.
