Greetings Ladies,
Spring has sprung in my neck of the
woods. The almond trees and apricot
trees are blooming all around our
house. The beauty of the blossoms
are a reminder that the season will be
changing soon. Are you ready for the
promise of Spring? I sure am looking
forward to warmer weather and flow-
ers in the yard. It won’t be long!
Thank you to our new project Chair-
women Mary Grove and Betsy Mo-
reno! Please remember to bring your
gently used bras and cancelled
stamps to the General Meeting to
supporting these two GFWC Projects,
Save the Girls and the Children of
Norway. By reaching out with love,
you indeed can heal a soul and
change a life.
And another big thank you goes out
to Patricia Munson, Dorothy Snow
and Amy Scudder for the successful
garage sale last Saturday. Several
other members were there to help,
thanks to Char, Sue and anyone else
that helped out. Your hard work is
greatly appreciated! I enjoyed the
experience, even though I got really
cold. It was a fun morning and I en-
joyed spending time with the lovely
TWC ladies.
There are some very important
events coming up so please mark
your calendars and plan to attend the
annual Arts and Crafts Show, to be
held at the Shannon Center. Look for
details here in the newsletter. Please
contact Dorothy Snow if you have
any questions about the show. At the
General Meeting I will have infor-
mation regarding the Convention
Call so please plan to attend.
Our Ways and Means Chairwoman,
Angie Barth, is planning a fun-filled
bus trip to the Casino so don’t for-
get to plan to attend this event! It
will be the first week in May, and a
sign-up sheet will be available at
the General Meeting with more
information.
I look forward to seeing all of you
at the March General Meeting!
With best wishes and many bless-
ings,
Cindy Sanders

A Friendly Reminder
Hello, Ladies,
March is Girls’ Month in Japan. Spring is on the way,
flowers start blooming and new leaves begin to sprout
on the trees, the sky is blue, ladies start looking for
new dresses and new shoes, and love is in the air. In
Japan, we celebrate Girls’ Day on March 3rd. If a family
has boys, they show how many boys are in the family
by flying a koi fish symbol called “koi nobori” for each
son on Boys’ Day, which is May 5th.
Girls’ Day is celebrated indoors. We display Japanese
dolls on 5 shelves, like steps, covered with red fabric.
On the top shelf we display two dolls representing a
prince and princess. On the second shelf we display
three colors of rice cakes (red, white and green) with
peach flowers. On the third shelf are 3 dolls represent-
ing the princess’ aides wearing red kimonos. We deco-
rate the fourth shelf with sweets and fruits, and on the
fifth shelf are 5 dolls representing musicians. These
dolls are family heirlooms passed down from generation
to generation from your ancestors. Girls’ Day dolls are
called Hina dolls, and are different from the dolls West-
erners usually see and think of as Japanese dolls. Hina
dolls are very small and very expensive to purchase. An
entire set can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000.
You need to special order them.
Last month I talked about
February’s flowers. The
March flower is the peach
flower. Also, from the end of
March to the beginning of
April we have the very beau-
tiful cherry blossom season.
Spring is an exciting season
and a beautiful season for
women.
Enjoy your Spring and enjoy
your life!
Debbie Elliott,
First Vice President

This month’s “Meet Your Member” was born in Oakland and raised in Pleasant Hill where
she attended schools through high school. She attended Humboldt State College and
studied Marine Biology. Her husband, John, is retired from Lawrence Livermore Lab. They
have one son, Scott, who lives in Tracy. They moved to Tracy in 1976 and she joined TWC
in 2010.
She worked in medical records for the Tracy Hospital and then as a medical clerk for
Dr. Kimball. She eventually gave up the medical field and became interested in retail
sales and worked for some gift stores including The Ivy Garden until 2007 when she
retired. Always interested in antiques and collectibles, she started collecting favorite items
at an early age. Along with her husband she enjoys an extensive collection of Royal
Doulton Toby and character jugs. She also has a large collection of horses, wolves, angels,
Santas and her new favorite, donkeys! She also loves vintage jewelry. She is an avid
reader and has one housecat named Thelma. Her favorite color is turquoise and her birth-
day is October 16. She has served on the Board of Directors as Corresponding Secretary
but is best known for her very successful garage sales. Her garage sales set-up looks like
a gift shop with everything clean, polished and in mint condition. Please greet this
month’s “Meet Your Member”, Susie Elliott!

A big “Thank You!” to
Betsy Moreno for head-
ing up our committee to
collect cancelled postage
stamps. This is one more
International Outreach
project that our club is
involved in, to help
children in Norway.
Please be sure to cut out
the cancelled stamps and
bring to Betsy for
collection at our general
meetings.
TWC Service Areas
Coupon Collection: Jennifer Williams has graciously volunteered to
Chair our coupon project for our men and women serving around the
world in the military. Please be sure to total the coupons and keep
track of your time spent so that we can accurately report service hours
at the end of the year.
Judy Altamirano is our Chair for the Children’s
Advocacy program. The program is in the process
of collecting puzzles, crayons, coloring books and
other items for the children to occupy their time
while in the “quiet room”. Some of the children
are teens, so please keep in mind collecting items
that are appropriate for a wide span of ages.
Free The Girls Ladies, please remember to bring new
and/or gently used bras for collection at
our meetings. Free The Girls is an
important program helping women in
Africa make more than six times the
minimum wage by selling these bras.
This is part of our International
Outreach program, and Mary Grove
has graciously volunteered to Chair the
program for our club.
