From the President’s Saddle The snow is gone, but the rain is here. Here’s for hoping that weather will be great by show time! We hope all of you can make it out to the Hoosier Horse Fair and Expo April 1,2, and 3. There will be lots of fun things to do including Ranch Rodeo, Ranch Horse Competition, Stock Dog Trials, Clinics, and yeah, plenty of vendors for shopping, too. Please make sure you have contacted Greg Warner to arrange to help out in our booth to promote the IRHA/ARHA. With fuel prices on the rise, it will be very important to add new members to make sure our shows are successful. We always look forward to seeing new faces! The website has been updated, so please take a look. We think you will find it very useful. There is a download on there of the Sponsorship form. If you can help out and work on sponsorships it will help with all of our awards. If you are working with a business, please make contact with one of the members of the Sponsorship Committee so they can notify the rest of the committee mem-bers so that multiple people don’t contact the same vendor. Like usual, we will have a meeting @ 8pm on Friday night of our May show. At this meeting, we will update you on upcoming events, ARHA Convention, and other new business. Please try to at-tend. I look forward to riding with all of you soon. Until then – "Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high. Keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky. And live like you ain't afraid to die. ALL HORSES ARE WELCOME! Out of state horses must have a current negative Coggins & health certificate. Dogs welcome, but must be on a leash at all times! Western attire required for all classes: long sleeve shirt, hat and boots. All classes will be judged according to ARHA rules. Horses are to be shown naturally with no hoof black or banded manes. No silver show tack or equipment! Judges decision is final. NO REFUNDS. 2011 IRHA Awards Program

IRHA is dedicated to providing quality awards in recognition for its mem-bers’ hard work and achievements. Each program we offer has a set of crite-ria that members must meet to qualify for the award. Whatever skill level, there is something here for all members. Weekend High Point Awards • Based on one horse / one rider combo / division • Must be current IRHA member in good standing • Must compete in at least one cattle class per show • Awards the top point-earning competitor in Amateur, All Age, and Youth Divisions at each

show Year-End Overall High Point Champions • Based on one horse / one rider combo / division • Must be current IRHA member in good standing • Must attend all four IRHA shows in 2011 • Must compete in at least one cattle class per show • Top two point-earning competitors in Amateur, All Age, and Youth Divisions (Champion and

Reserve Champion) IRHA Rookie of the Year • Rules are parallel to ARHA’s rules in the 2010-2011 Rule Book • Must be first year ARHA & IRHA member and first time Amateur or Youth card holder

(members who only qualify for open/all age divisions do not quality for this award) • Must attend 3 of the 4 IRHA shows • Member must not have earned ANY breed association points prior to this year (open, youth,

amateur or novice, subject to verification by IRHA) • Member must sign up at the first show, or email IRHA with their name, division (Amateur or

Youth) they are showing in, and the name of the horse they are showing for the award • Awards are based on total points accumulated on a one horse / one rider combo per calen-

dar year • One AMATEUR ROOKIE of the YEAR and one YOUTH ROOKIE of the YEAR will be awarded • In the event of a tie in the same division, the award will be given to the competitor winning

the points in the greatest number of events, followed by the greatest number of wins High Point Class Champion Awards • Must be a current IRHA member in good standing • Top point-earning members in each class will be awarded certificates at the end of the year Sportsmanship Award This is a special award which IRHA will honor a member who displays the character, spirit, atti-tude and behavior that embodies the very mission of ARHA. This member displays honesty and fairness in everything he or she does and treats others, regardless of status or skill, with re-spect. Be they horseman or horsewoman, this individual observes and plays by the rules and conducts him or herself with true sportsman-like manners at all times. A true sportsman or sportswoman values the fellowship and camaraderie of others more than the glory of the win, which he or she accepts graciously, but accepts a loss with the same smile and dignity that comes with victory. This individual should be seen as a role model to all and will be awarded accordingly at the Year End Awards Banquet.

2011 Shows Offer Classes with

Added Money!

Each show this year has a MINIMUM of $250 added, to be split be-tween each of the jack-pot classes: ranch rid-ing, cutting, ranch cutting, ranch reining and ranch trail. No less than $50 will be added to each of these classes, plus, any sponsorships these classes attract will go into the pot. Sponsorship forms are available to print from the website. We can use all the spon-sorships we can get. The more sponsor-ships, the better the cash prizes and high point awards we will have! Entry fees for these classes are split with 50% of the entry money going toward the prize pot, and 50% going to the charter. Depending on the number of entries, jack-pot classes generally pay two to three places. Added money is a nice way to off-set the cost of showing for top competi-tors.

IRHA SPONSORS DOG & SUDS PARTY AT WORLD SHOW

IRHA will be sponsoring the Dog & Suds at the ARHA World Championship Show in Ohio. We will be grillin’ and chillin’ with some wieners and refreshments on Wednesday evening, July 20 at 7:00 pm at the Gazebo. Hope to see you there!

IRHA Needs Your Help! The charter needs everyone to pitch in and help during each show. If you have even just a few spare moment s of your time, we can use the help! Sponsorships Our awards program this year will be funded by sponsorships as much as pos-sible. Our Sponsorship Committee is working hard to solicit funds from busi-nesses and individuals. If you know any-one who would like to sponsor IRHA this year and make our awards truly special, contact anyone on the Sponsorship Committee so they may make contact with that business or individual.

IRHA at the Hoosier Horse Fair

We will have a booth at the Fair this year. It will be located at the West Pavil-ion, booth #108, opposite end of Stallion Row. If there is anyone interested in working the booth, please call Greg Warner at 765-480-8411 to sign up. IRHA will have informational packets, membership forms and brochures to hand out over the weekend.


Jackpot Classes Feature Optional Side Pots IRHA is offering optional side pots to each Jackpot class this year. We are giving all entries more chances to win some cash! • The cost to participate in the optional side pot is $5 per entry • Only those who sign up will have a shot at the side pot • If the total side pot is between $5 and $20, winner takes all -

100% of the side pot goes to the highest placing participant that signed up

• If there is more than $20 in the side pot, it will be split 60/40

between the top two placing participants that signed up • This pot is a completely separate prize from the main jackpot, and

is optional • There will be a sign up sheet in the show office • Side pots must be paid in cash at the show office and received

prior to the class the entry is participating in • NO REFUNDS once entry has signed up unless entry scratches

Preparing for a Show: A Guide for New Ranch Horse

Members

If this is your first year as an ARHA member, you are not alone. Several enthusiasts sign up for ranch horse every year. No matter what charter you may belong to, the national point system is the same. Each charter may run its awards and point system differently, however. A member may join any state char-ter regardless of what state they live and show in. Here are some tips for members new to ARHA and IRHA: • Join early and get your horse registered

with ARHA well before the first show. You can join at the shows, but you will be charged a rush fee. Having your mem-bership in early saves you and office staff plenty of time...and money.

• Keep photocopies of your membership card and horse registration papers handy that you can give to office staff during check in. Since they have to make photocopies of all these documents, pro-viding them with a copy yourself saves everyone time in the office.

• Pre-register for your classes. This can be done several different ways:

- You can download a copy of the Master En-try Form on the IRHA website, fill it out on your computer and email it to Carolyn Mele at [email protected] - Go to: www.showmyhorse.com and enter there. You will need your membership infor-mation and horse registration information -Fill out the Master Entry Form at the show • Have your entry form filled out with all

the correct information. Incorrect infor-mation will result in a loss of ARHA points

• Don’t wait until the last minutes to get your entry in. Remember, you can always add and drop classes, but be courteous to the office staff and have your entry form in early

• Keep all of your show bills, horse regis-trations papers, entry forms, and other important information in a binder

Who will be the next Miss American

Ranch Horse?

The 2011 ARHA World Show is just around the corner. For the second year, ARHA will be con-ducting their search for Miss Ameri-can Ranch Horse. Each charter may send one represen-tative to the ARHA World Show July 17-23, 2011 to compete for the title of Miss American Ranch Horse. The represen-tatives must be between the ages of 17 and 25 as of June 1, 2011. During the ARHA World Show, the representatives will compete in: • Speech • Interview • Rulebook • Horsemanship Contests

The 2011 Miss American Ranch Horse will be crowned July 23, 2011 at the World Show banquet. Each charter must have their representative’s application to ARHA no later than May 1, 2011. The Three Year-Old Ranch Horse Challenge is open to any three year-old regis-tered in ARHA. The horse DOES NOT have to be out of a nominated stallion.
