INTRODUCTION

The One is a truly unique amplifier that follows in the legendary footsteps of Limited Edition amplifiers from Phoenix Gold. While the external function of this monoblock amplifier is fairly simple its very important to respect the immense amount of power it can produce. Be sure the proper subwoofers are selected as this amplifier will easily damage low to mid powered subwoofers. Phoenix Gold is not responsible for speaker failures or damage.

Phoenix Gold has taken special care to make sure each amplifier is of the highest quality possible. After the electrical components are pre-tested and inserted into the circuit boards then each amplifier is carefully hand assembled one by one. Once assembled the amplifiers are rigorously tested. The first testing stage is performed by a state of art Audio Precision computerized program. Specifically designed by the Phoenix Gold engineering team, this testing program is powerful and complex. It immediately and accurately measures distortion levels, power output, crossover functions and numerous other specifications.

Once the amplifier has passed the Audio Precision testing, its then ‘burned in’ for a minimum of two hours to verify all part temperatures are within specification and all systems are working properly. After the unit passes burn in, it is then retested with the Audio Precision again to verify it still meets the original testing criteria. Once it passes this test for a second time it then undergoes a final visible inspection and human listening test. Rest assured this amplifier has been fully tested before its laid to rest in its custom made wood crate.

As mentioned throughout this manual, the proper electrical system is REQUIRED not optional. The amplifier can be damaged and will not reach its full potential without the proper electrical system. Stinger accessories and power wiring are heavily recommended due to their high quality. For example, Stinger power wire is 100% OFC copper and adheres to a Tru-Spec wire gauge standard. Many low quality power wires may look like 1/0 gauge from the outer jacket, but the internal copper is actually closer to 4 gauge to save costs. Also do not use CCAW or Copper Clad Aluminum Wire as it does not conduct current as well as copper.

Congratulations on purchasing the most powerful and one of the rarest amplifiers ever built by Phoenix Gold. Be sure to keep all of the documentation, certificate of authenticity and shipping crate as this amplifier is truly a collector’s dream.

Specifications

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!

The One is an extremely high performance amplifier. In order for it to reach its full potential, the correct installation and wiring requirements MUST be followed. Please note the following:

• Do not touch the speaker wires or terminals while the amplifier is on. This amplifier has the ability to cause serious injury due to electrocution.

• A high output alternator, at least three high capacity batteries and three separate runs of 1/0 power/ground wire are required for the electrical system.

• 1/0 Gauge wiring (or greater) is required for all power and ground connections.

• 8 Gauge wiring (or greater) is required for all speaker connections.

• All three of the power terminals must be wired to the electrical system. Using only one or two of the terminals can damage the amplifier.

INPUTConnect preamp signal cables from the head unit to these terminals.

OUTPUTProvides a full range signal for an additional amplifier. There is no signal loss if using this output.

LP FREQControls the lowpass crossover point for the speaker outputs.

BASS BOOSTVariable bass boost from 0 to +6dB @ 45 Hz.

LOW PASS LEVEL CONTROL (LPL)This port is for connecting the optional remote level control (LPL44). This allows up to 20dB of volume adjustment. This is not a bass boost, it controls the level of the low pass signal.

LEVELUsed to reach maximum amplifier power with a wide variety of headunits.

SPEAKER OUTPUTSUsed to connect the amplifier to speakers. Minimum impedance is 1 ohm. 8 gauge wire is required.

SUBSONIC Controls the subsonic (highpass) crossover point for the speaker outputs to eliminate extreme low frequencies.

PROTECT LEDLights red if there is a problem with the audio system. For example, speaker wire is pinched/shorted together or the amplifier is running too low of an impedance.

INPUT SLAVE/OUTPUT MASTER SWITCHFor normal use, the switch MUST be set to “OUTPUT MASTER”. If linking or strapping two amplifiers together please see page 7 for more details. IMPORTANT: In normal or single amplifier use there will be no output if this switch is set to “INPUT SLAVE”. Be sure it is set to “OUTPUT MASTER”.

+12V This must be connected to the fused positive terminal (+12V) of the car’s battery. See page 4 for an electrical system example. 1/0 gauge wire is required.

REMOTE This must be connected to switched +12V, usually a trigger wire coming from the head unit or ignition.

GND This must be connected to the negative terminal of the car’s battery or bolted to a clean, unpainted part of the chassis of the vehicle. 1/0 gauge wire is required.

COntrols

REMOTE MONITORING DISPLAY (RMD)Connect optional RMD Voltage Display to this port.

IMPORTANT: ALL THREE POWER TERMINALS MUST BE USED. DO NOT USE ONLY ONE OR TWO OF THE TERMINALS, IT CAN DAMAGE THE AMPLIFIER.

How to strap two monoblocks

Strapping or linking two amplifiers allows you to deliver a ton of power into a single voice coil commonly used in SPL competitions. The example below shows two of “The Ones” delivering a total of 24,000 watts RMS into a single 2 ohm voice coil.

• DO NOT STRAP AMPLIFIERS INTO A 1 OHM LOAD. Minimum load strapped is 2 ohm.

• The “Master” amplifier’s preamp section controls both amplifiers. “Slave” amplifier’s pre-amp controls are disabled.

• The negative or (-) speaker output terminals are connected together using 8 gauge wire.

• CAUTION: This is an insane amount of power into a single voice coil. PG is not responsible for speaker failures or damage.
