■Where to measure ■To find correct size bit for your horse Stand in front of your horse and make sure there is approximately 5mm ( 1/4") clearance on both sides. One fingers' width between the horses lips and the bit ring/cheek is correct.The bit should lie evenly in the mouth and adjusted to the correct height, just gently wrinkling the corners of the mouth.With all synthetic bits it is vital teeth are well maintained and examined on a regular basis. If any doubt about sizing or style of bit to suit your horse always seek advice.'Happy Mouth, Happy Horse ! '

MULLENThis shaped mouthpiece is very mild and ideal for mouthing young horses. A twisted wire core passes through the center of the elastic polymer which bows in the direction of pressure. This flexibility sends preliminary signal for the horse to prepare the movement of rein. She can be in relaxed and neutral state. This light weight mouthpiece acts equally on the bars, the tongue, the lips and corner of mouth.

TAPERThis mouthpiece is constricted in the middle with a twisted wire core passing through the center. The thick 24mm mouthpiece creates space in the middle to keep tongue free. Flexible as Mullen, but more direct pressure on the bars than the tongue. This light weight mouthpiece is suitable for thick tongued horses.

PLAIN BARPlain bar mouthpiece is as flexible as Mullen or Taper. This light weight mouthpiece acts equally on the bars, the tongue, the lips and corner of mouth.

“CONTOUR” DOUBLE JOINT & COPPER ROLLERThis double jointed mouthpiece is round and fits well on the configuration of horse’s mouth. The curvature of this light weight mouthpiece increases contact area delivering delicate communication with the rider. Stainless steel rod goes through the center, and this mouth-piece delivers more direct pressure than flexible mullen mouthpieces. Copper Roller version is also available, which aids salivation and makes the bit more acceptable.

FRENCH LINKBoth sides of the mouthpiece are jointed to a shaped, flat plate which is ideal for horses who do not like nutcracker action. When this mouthpiece is fitted, the shaped plate follows the line of the horse’s tongue, allowing far more tongue room. Stainless steel rod goes through the center, and this light weight mouthpiece delivers direct pressure.

DOUBLE JOINT & COPPER ROLLERBoth sides of the mouthpiece are connected to a central roll part, which rotates for playing. Symmetrically to both sides , this mouthpiece improves fitting and does not have a “nutcracker action” which often seen in the single jointed mouthpiece. Very mild . Joints of this double joint mouthpiece are smaller than traditional bits, reducing the risk of “pinch-ing”. Stainless steel rod goes through the center, and this light weight mouthpiece delivers more direct pressure than Mullen. Copper Roller version is also available, which aids saliva-tion and makes the bit more acceptable.

BRADOON DOUBLE JOINTThis BRADOON double joint mouthpiece is suitable for dressage riding where double bridle is in use. Designed to be used with Weymouth, the mouthpiece is slim, measuring 14mm in thickness. A center roller part is shorter in length than standard double joint, allowing the center to stay comfortably on the tongue. Slightly contoured. This light weight mouthpiece delivers more direct pressure than Mullen. Permitted at FEI and most national competitions.

SINGLE JOINT MOUTHA stainless steel rod core goes all the way through the center of mouthpiece for strength and direct action. When the rein is drawn, the mouthpiece gets V-shape at the joint, produc-ing “nutcracker action” on the bars. This light weight mouthpiece acts on the roof of the mouth, the bars, the tongue.

DR. BRISTOL MOUTHSimilar in shape to the Fench link, but the center plate of this mouthpiece is set at an angle to the rest of mouthpiece, and designed to press into horse’s tongue. This mouthpiece is suitable for a horse that has a tendency to push the bit away with the tongue.

RIBBED BAR & RIBBLE SINGLE JOINTThis bar and single jointed mouthpiece has concave-convex surface. The harshest mouth-piece in the Happy Mouth bit range. RIBBED BAR mouthpiece is flexible while RIBBED JOINT has more direct action. Only suitable for skillful experienced hands.

MOUTHPIECEWEYMOUTH PORTED MOUTHThis mouthpiece is suitable for dressage riding where double bridle is in use. Designed to be used with Bradoon, this light weight polymer mouthpiece is slim, measuring 17mm in thickness. Stainless steel core rod goes through the center of mouthpiece, making a rider’s delicate control possible. This bit will encourage more advanced head carriage and improve rider control. A portion of cheek area is also covered by the soft elastic polymer material. Permitted at FEI and most national competitions.

LOOSE RINGLOOSE RING gives a horse signals to turn. This ring rotates around on the mouthpiece and promotes relaxation and bit acceptance. LOOSE RINGS are frequently used for training young horses as the ring slides to provide a warning signal. Ring size can be chosen in proportion to horse's head size although race horses are often seen with 75mm rings to prevent it from being pulled through the mouth.

LOOP RINGLOOP RING can be used in many ways. It gives direct pressure to turn if a rein is just attached to the ring in same way as loose ring. There are two loops on the ring at top and bottom, and if the cheekpiece is attached to the top, then when a rein is pulled it gives slight pressure on the poll and the corner of mouth. If the rein is attached to the bottom, then it applies more pressure.

EGGBUTT GAGAn EGGBUTT GAG is effective with some horses, encouraging to raise the head and flex. The gag ring has two holes : one on the top and one on the bottom, through which the rounded leather cheeks pass. The top end is attached to the bridle and the other end to the rein. When the rein pressure is applied, the bit slides upward and tilts slightly in the mouth, giving pressure on both the poll and the corner of mouth at the same time. It gives a horse leverage and works to elevate a horse. Useful bit for a strong horse who tends to lean on bit or in need of retraining.

PELHAM & KIMBLEWICKPELHAM combines the actions of a double bridle in one bit. A rein on the middle ring gives a horse direct pressure to turn and the second rein attached to the bottom ring activates leverage. It is a useful bit for a horse especially in need of double bridle control but for some reason(ie. too thick tongue) cannot use two bits in a mouth. Because the mouthpiece is soft, Happy Mouth PELHAM is often seen at the introduction stage of two reins. KIMBLEWICK is similar to PELHAM, but less level of leverage.

FULL CHEEK GAGFull cheek snaffle gives a horse the clear signal to turn and with the cheeks extending upwards and downwards, puts more pressure on the side of the face. In full cheek GAG snaffle, strap holes are added to the rings so that the second rein attached would deliver pressure on the poll, raising head for correct posture. Full cheek gag is good for advanced jumpers.

SLOTTED KIMBLEWICKA Kimblewick is a curb designed to exert dual effects: snaffle pressure on bars/corners of mouth, and curb leverage on a chin/a poll. Kimblewick is widely popular in a pony riding, a game of polo, a field hunting and a trail riding etc. Slotted Kimblewick has two sets of slots on the ring, which provide opportunities to increase or decrease the amount of leverage. These slots also prevent the rein from sliding on the ring.
