Please do not make arrangements for a Baptism Celebration before you get a Baptism date from Sr. Mary, as we may not be able to grant any special requests for a particular date. Parents of first children are required to attend one Baptism Preparation Class (as well as parents who have never participated in a Baptism class). Registration for the Baptism Preparation Class can be made at the time the Registration Form for Baptism is completed with Sr. Mary.

ANNULMENT – Reestablishing The Freedom To Marry An annulment can be described as a declara on of sacramental matrimonial invalidity. It is an official determina on made by an ecclesias cal court that at the

me of the marital consent exchanged by the par es a specific component of the marriage was lacking or defec ve. Hence, the marriage failed to be a sacramental marriage as defined by the Catholic Church. If you wish to reestablish your freedom to marry in the Church contact the Diocese of Rockville Centre. If you would first like to speak to someone who has been through this process, please contact Philip and Donna Liscia at: 631-942-4645.

Fr. Augustine’s Message My Dear People of God - This weekend I stand before the Lord with grateful heart for all of you because with your love and support I could be here is this parish with you, for you and lead you. Least fourteen months we were together, helping each other spiritual-ly, physically, financially and emotional-ly. With God we could do very well in every way and it is my privilege to be with you all and I have only one word to say, Thank you all and Thank you God. It is said "One person's Trash is another person's Treasure". And so when we are generous in loving how much our treas-ures become the blessing for others. And our great gift from God to share with each other is our faith and love as God so love the world he sent his only Son so that we may have life, life in fullness. (Jn. 3:16). And we are so privileged to belong that life giving family of God here on earth, One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. This week-end Gospel speaks to us about it and thus our Parish is an example for that Apostolic Church. So continue to love and live the faith, what God had given us. It is said, even if you forget to love, but do not forget the loved ones. Keep me in your prayers and I will do the same. God has greater plan for you all as his family and so trust in Him.

God bless you all and your family. Fr. K. J. Augustine

2020—2021 Religious Education

Dear Parents, I hope you are well and not too overwhelmed by the current events! As you might expect, the immediate future of Religious Education clas-ses at the building is going to be difficult. We may be forced to begin this year a little differently, but I am sure we can all grow in our relationship with God and our Faith. Please realize that God will be with us through it all, and His Divine Providence will enlighten us and guide us. In order to have a program that will assist the children in their Faith For-mation, we will have to buy into a digital book and resources. There will be a hard copy book, so that when we are in the classroom, it can be used as well. Your Registration Fee is needed to defray the cost of the pro-gram. Please realize that many of our volunteer teachers are older and may have reservations about returning in September. I, therefore, have to prepare for a different format. I will be there for you and the children, and we will get through this together. Change is difficult for all, but with patience, God's help, and our willing-ness to give something new a try, our children will gain knowledge and deepen their relationship with Jesus. My prayer for a healthy and relaxing summer. God Bless You, Sister Phylis

Weekly Reflection TRUST? Keys hold great significance for those who carry them. They represent the trust and au-thority of the owner when given to another person. We may give our house key to a trust-ed friend to take care of our matters while we are away. We may give keys to someone re-sponsible for maintaining or working in a par-ticular building. Keys to vehicles are given to people who have proven themselves responsi-ble drivers. The readings today focus on this kind of trust—the trust that conveys authority and responsibility. In the first reading, the symbol is specifically that of a key; but the second reading and the Gospel also speak of trust and leadership as they refer to the earthly church that Jesus established. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

SAINT MONICA (332-387) - August 27 She had smiles for the neighbors, though her husband found her religion and the charity it inspired annoying. She made tearful prayers in private for a son, outwardly self-assured but, as his mother knew, inwardly restless, and whose girlfriend of a dozen years had borne his child out of wedlock. Though not the first or last such mother and son, Monica and Au-gustine are the Church’s most famous, so we keep their feast days back to back, with Mon-ica’s, fittingly, first. To Rome she followed Augustine, then to Milan, where years of pray-er—and nagging—finally bore fruit in his con-version by Saint Ambrose. For six months, mother and son enjoyed the blessing of redis-covering each other. Just in time! On the way home to North Africa, Monica took sick and died near Rome. No child who has mourned a parent can read, unmoved, Augustine’s tender account, in his Confessions, of Monica’s last days. At this time of the year, when parents watch apprehensively as children leave for school, may Monica’s perseverance and Au-gustine’s long-prayed-for conversion ease anxiety and kindle hope.

TO BIND AND TO LOOSE When Jesus says to Peter “whatever you bind” or “whatever you loose” in today’s Gospel, he describes a distinct power that emerges from Peter’s faith in Jesus. The ca-pacity to bind or to loose suggests a new ability, both to restrain or block forces that harm the community of faith, and also to re-lease or liberate energies that strengthen the community.

It might be helpful to observe, within your own parish or faith community, where God might be working now. Perhaps you can see persons and groups working to restrain toxic forces of resentment or fear. You might see those who are releasing new energies, and empowering the faithful to care for their neighbors. When we are grounded in a prayerful trust relationship with Jesus, we can receive this power to participate in God’s work, to bind and to loose. 21st SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Jesus poses the question “But who do you say I am?” in today’s Gospel passage. It is a question posed to Peter and the disciples, to Matthew’s first readers, and to the Church today. Peter’s confession of faith in Jesus as Christ and Son of God was a culmination of what the disciples had experienced in their life with Jesus thus far. Jesus affirms Peter’s declaration as a gift from God. But it was on-ly the beginning of Peter’s understanding of what these words actually meant, and how the disciples saw themselves in light of this truth. As Jesus and the disciples turned toward Je-rusalem and to the cross, the disciples per-haps pondered their own identity, together with their dawning understanding of Jesus’ identity. For us, the journey of faith, initiated and sustained by the Holy Spirit, means an ongoing reflection upon who Jesus is and who we are. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
