Dear Parishioners,
This week we celebrate our national holiday on the
4th of July. I think that those of us who were not born
in this country have a particular appreciation of this
holiday. Maybe it’s because of the timing – coming
as it does at the beginning of the Summer, with the
excitement of outdoor fun and the smell of the
barbecue and the sound of families getting together
and creating (sometimes noisy) memories.
Above all, of course, the 4th is a celebration of the
freedoms and the independence that we so easily take
for granted. The fact that people have died and
continue to die for this abstract entity called freedom
and independence can seem very far removed from
our consciousness as we lie on the beach or stoke up
the barbecue, but for so many thousands of our armed
forces serving overseas, it is not at all an abstract
concept, as they put their lives on the line and risk
death each day so that the rest of us can celebrate our
national holiday in peace and tranquility.
Let us offer a very heartfelt and grateful prayer this
special day, for our service men and women who are
making such sacrifices for the rest of us. May we
never take their service and their courage for granted.
Happy 4th!
Fr. Cullen
Parish Pastoral Council-18
The recently discerned Parish Council consists of a diverse
group of individuals in both age and life experience. The
new Council is both energized and committed and, under
the direction of Father Harold Cullen, has had three
significant meetings since commencement in March.
Building upon the efforts from the first Parish Council, the
new Council has by consensus decided to focus on ways to
better engage our youth, (teenagers to college, 20’s to
30’s, young families,) in our Eucharistic Celebrations and
parish community events. The Council is also supporting
our new efforts in music and hospitality at parish events
and masses.
The youth objective is to listen to concerns, through focus
groups and ministry solicitations, and then create action
steps aimed at bringing these members to mass and
community events. Our concentration is evangelization,
and our hope is that with guidance from the Holy Spirit,
everyone will commit to a deeper relationship with our
Lord, Jesus Christ.
A special mass for the previous Parish Council and the
new Council is being scheduled for the fall. Please
continue to pray for the entire St. Catharine-St. Margaret
Parish Community and parishes everywhere.

We would like to apologize for misspelling the name of
our generous benefactor, Ruth Rempe, in a previous
bulletin. Ruth’s bequest for the restoration of St.
Catharine Church has made necessary repairs and
projects possible over the last few years including the
purchase and installation of a brand new custom made
state of the art organ in St. Catharine Church.
