SAINTS

1st March St. David, Patron Of Wales. Is the patron saint of Wales, where he was an abbot and bishop in the sixth century. He is reputed to have founded a number of monasteries, of

strict regime. Several Irish saints were his pupils, and he seems to have influenced monastic development in

Ireland.

4th MarchSt. Casimir Patron Saint of Poland 1458—84, strove to promote peace and the unity of Western Europe. Patron saint of Poland.

5th March St. Kieran. Patron

Saint of the Diocese of Ossory. Kieran of Saigir was born in Cape

Clear, County Cork. He is numbered among the saints of Ireland before St Patrick. He received the faith form missionaries or from French Traders. He went to the

Continent, where he was baptised and later ordained priest and bishop. He returned to his father’s territory, Ossory, and

seems to have lived as a hermit. The diocese is made up of most of Co Kilkenny, part of Laois and one parish in Offaly.
