Professional Development Day (PDD)

Thursday, August 30th

Workshops with Detailed Information

Question, Persuade, and Refer

(QPR)

Facilitator: County of Santa Clara Suicide

Prevention (Presenter name TBD) and

Kara Uy, Crisis Support and Case

Manager

VPA-200

Description: Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students. The QPR mission is to

reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing practical and proven suicide prevention training. QPR

stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from

suicide.

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people

trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade,

and refer someone to get help.

Faculty and Staff will be better prepared to address suicidal concerns on campus by learning 3 simple steps:

how to recognize signs/question the student, how to persuade the student to get help, and how to refer the

student to campus/community resources

ITSS New Online Service Ticket

Request, TeamDynamix

Facilitators: Irene Gutierrez

VPA-104

Description: We have selected TeamDynamix for our next Service Desk solution. It will help us to provide

better services to our students and employees and help ITSS/CTSS to be more efficient and effective with

our resources and processes. It also has great potential for expanding service desk options to non-IT

departments (Facilities, HR).

Staff and Faculty: Make your flyers

& emails accessible--it’s the law!

Facilitator: Heather Ott and Sylvia Min LE-324

Description:

Under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, all CA community college employees are required to make all of their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. This means your emails, attachments, and electronic documents need to be produced in a manner to comply with the law and be accessible by assistive technology like screen readers. Individual employees can also be held legally liable for not complying. Learn the basics techniques to create an accessible flyer or syllabus suitable for electronic distribution. This hands-on workshop will help everyone (faculty and staff) to understand 508 Compliance, and how to make your electronic content accessible to all.
