Psalm 30:1-5

I will exalt You, Lord,

for You lifted me out of the depths

and did not let my enemies gloat over me. Lord my God, I called to You for help,

and You healed me.

You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; You spared me from going down to the pit.

Sing the praises of the Lord, you, His faithful people;

praise His holy name. For His anger lasts only a moment,

but His favor lasts a lifetime;

weeping may stay for the night,

but rejoicing comes in the morning.

“Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning”

The ESV tells us that JOY comes in the morning. The Message says, ”The nights of cry-

ing your eyes out give way to days of laughter.”

This is the Easter story. There was darkness, and now there is a great light. The light

shines brighter than the darkness. Where there is light, there can be no darkness whatso-

ever!

On Easter, we celebrate the Light of the world. We celebrate the resurrection of our Lord

and Savior Jesus Christ. We celebrate this joy, the rejoicing, this day of laughter. We do a

great job of celebrating Easter...the church is full, or overcrowded; we are excited to be here; we are excited to sing and worship. What about the other 364 days of the year? Do

we live in the joy? Or are we living in the darkness, weeping, crying? There is a season for

weeping, and a season for crying and mourning. But the Easter message is the message of Joy, the message of laughter. We can have the joy of the Lord year round. The Lord our

God wants us to live in HIS joy.

My prayer for you, me, our entire congregation, and the community is that we can live in this JOY of the Lord. Yes, there will be hard times, sad times, times of mourning, but God

gives us HIS joy and we can live in that joy each and every day.

If you have never really experienced the Joy that only Christ can give us, the peace that

passes all understanding, my door is open. Please come by to talk to me. God’s joy, like

HIS love, is AMAZING!

A Cow for Kenya

The SALT Youth are in the process of raising $500 to purchase a cow

for a needy family in Kenya. Through World Vision, caring Christians can

donate funds that will enable a Third World family to own their own cow

which enables them to become self-sufficient and productive. With this in

mind, the youth have decided to raise $500 in honor of Martha Henry,

President of the PIPC Youth Council and a graduating senior in our youth

program.

Congratulations, Martha! We love you!

CLEAN-UP DAY

Mark your calendars now for Saturday, April 13th because

that’s the date for our annual “Church Clean-Up Day”. We’ll

clean the church and all of the other buildings from the bottom

to the top, from the inside out, and everywhere in between!

We’ll also be cleaning and sprucing up the church grounds. We’ll

start early and then we’ll have barbeque (prepared by Mark

Windham) with all of the trimmings! Last year we had over 70

people working and we need to break that record! What a won-

derful way to spend a Saturday morning! We’ll begin work at

8:30 A.M. and end at 1:00 P.M. with our wonderful barbeque

lunch. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SURE THAT

YOU COMPLETE THE INSERT IN THE NEWSLETTER OR

THE INSERT THAT WILL BE IN THE CHURCH BULLETIN

ON APRIL 7th AND RETURN THEM TO JULIA OR THE

CHURCH OFFICE. Thank you!!

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. Colossians 3:23

“Left Behind”

Unlike the fictional novels and movies with accounts about “the end

times” and “the rapture,” we have PIPC’s own version of “left behind” – all

those items that have been left behind in storage closets, the library, class-

rooms, etc. with no known owner. Since April 13th is our big clean-up day,

these items will be displayed on a table in ODFC beginning April 1st with the

request that owners claim their items by April 7th and that beginning April

8th any unclaimed items may be claimed by anyone interested in them. Any-

thing remaining on April 13th will be discarded. So, please, check the display

in case there is anything you may have inadvertently “left behind.”

There will also be a cleanup of the ODFC kitchen on April 5th. There are

a number of cake plates, vases, and other items that have been left in the

cabinets. We are asking members to please claim these items before April

5th. All items left in the kitchen after that date may be discarded.

J.A.M. NEWS

The children of J.A.M. have a lot of exciting events planned for the

month of April. Besides their weekly Sunday night meetings, they will be

participating in Church Clean-Up Day on April 13th helping in the Education

Building and on the grounds. They will also be attending the Lowcountry

Strawberry Festival on April 20th at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant.

While there, they will be able to ride or visit over 30 great attractions or

amusement park rides. We will also pick strawberries to bring back home

with us! On April 26th we will be having a Movie/Game Night in the ODFC.

The children of J.A.M. have been collecting money for “The One Great

Hour of Sharing” and they have also collected new socks that will be do-

nated to the needy in our area. What a blessing these children are to

PIPC!

The annual “Easter Celebra-

tion” at PIPC was a rousing success

despite the rain! More than 30 of

PIPC’s children and their friends

turned out to play or complete

the 14 different activities that were

included in this year’s event. We

dyed eggs, took a faith walk, ran

races, played Easter Bingo, made a Faith necklace, played

“The Resurrection”, designed crosses, and on and on.

Many thanks to the youth and adults that helped me “get

ready” and “carry out” this event-Mariah Amrozowicz,

Anna Grace Fletcher, Jill Fletcher, Danielle Gaddy, Pam

Gaddy, Tina Hair, Mary Holman, Brady Lottchea, Brianna

Lottchea, Terri Lottchea, Noah Lowenbach, Benjamin

Marlow, Emily Middleton, Christy Stuckey, Sidney Stuck-

ey, J.D. Tucker and Martha Wahl.

HATS OFF TO YOU!!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the willing hands that helped

with the Lenten Luncheon that was held at PIPC. Ben Vincent, thank you for set-

ting up 25 tables and a zillion chairs and thanks to you, Kimmie Tomlinson, for dec-

orating those tables! They were truly beautiful!

Cari Brown, Irene Dent, Pam Gaddy, Mary Holman, Martha McCall, Millie McNeil,

Barbara Neely, and Martha Wahl-thanks to all of you for making sandwiches, set-

ting the tables, serving soup, and cleaning up! What a job! A very special thank-

you to the 20 ladies that baked “homemade” cookies that were served at the

luncheon. They were delicious!

“CHECK YOUR DRAWERS AGAIN,

PLEASE!”

Once again, the children of PIPC will be visiting Brookgreen Gardens this summer so you know what I’m about to ask for-passes! Could you check your drawers for any passes that you won’t need and that would help our children be able to visit one of our state’s “Treasures”? If you have any passes, please bring them to my office or ask Tina to put them in my box. Thanks so much for your help. We have visit-ed Brookgreen Gardens for many summers because of the generosity of you, the mem-bers of PIPC.

Sanctuary Choir

Thank you for your beautiful music during the Lenten and Easter season at

PIPC. We cherish the wonderful music traditions of Pawleys Island Presbyterian

Church and are thankful for our choir and its faithful service in worship. We

would like to see more of our church family participating in our worship services

through music. If you have a musical gift to share or would like to participate in

any of the choirs and ensembles at PIPC, we welcome you. We would love to see

people of all ages in our Sanctuary Choir and ensembles – His Voice, Bel Canto,

Alleluia Ringers and Winds of Praise. You may call Sylvia at 843-237-4581, ext. 27

or email at [email protected] if you have questions or need more infor-

mation, see the calendar, newsletters and bulletins for all rehearsal dates and times.

PIPC Children’s Choir

Our kids will be hitting the Old Testament books in

April and soon the challenge will be on for our adults. Do

you know the books of the Bible? Can you sing them? In

April, our children’s choir will be back to their scripture

assignments and how our music can bring those words,

principles and stories to life. All kids, first through fifth

grade are invited. BRING A FRIEND!

Alleluia Ringers

Our handbell choir needs a couple of ringers.

What about you? Ringing is a wonderful experience

for musical expression, ensemble participation and

growth as a musician. If you think you might be in-

terested, let me know. If you are unsure about your

skills and ability to participate, ask me.

Worship Opportunities, Today and Tomorrow

Youth and adults, if you are interested in participating in a more contemporary

style of worship, outside of our normal traditional worship which is a vital part of the

worship experience at PIPC, we need to hear from you. We are seeking to nurture

and involve a variety of worship styles in a variety of settings in the days ahead but as

you know, with any community experience there must be participation and involve-

ment by the community.

Administration and Personnel Committee Report

The Administration and Personnel Committee is a Sessional Com-

mittee responsible for promoting a focused Christian work environ-

ment among the staff and to define personnel policies and administra-

tion, compensation including benefits, and operating procedures of the

Church to ensure we are in compliance with Presbytery policies and

guidelines. The A & P Committee is responsible for reviewing the op-

eration procedures and job descriptions annually and to make recom-

mendations to the Session for any changes. With the Senior Pastor,

ensure that each staff position is reviewed and evaluated annually. The

Committee also encourages professional growth and development of the staff.

In line with our responsibilities, the A & P committee is in the process of Staff reviews with all reviews

being completed by the end of April. We are also conducting reviews of our printing costs, and how to

better communicate to the community and Church members via our newspaper advertising and web pres-

ence. We also responsible for the Nursery and providing care for our infants and toddlers with paid and

trained workers.

With the help of the Finance Committee and approval of the Session we have started a Flexible Spend-

ing Account for our employees.

We continue to work on the Picture Directory which has had several delays and hope to have this com-

pleted and published by the end of April. We are currently making and collecting activity shots for the

directory and assembling the page layouts. I know a number of you are anxious to have the Directory

published.

If this type of involvement in our Church interests you and you would like to join this important mission,

please contact the Church office.

J.O.Y. School is a place where people understand me. They are kind to me and they wait for me no

matter how long it takes me to move myself.

At J.O.Y. School I get to spend time with my friends who are like me in many ways and who enjoy

being with me.

J.O.Y. School is fun.

J.O.Y. School is loud. . .with laughter, taking, screeching, and singing.

J.O.Y. School is music and dancing.

J.O.Y. School is gardening and farming. Feeling the dirt, planting the seeds, spilling the water. . .and

that is okay.

J.O.Y. School is painting and cutting and pasting and coloring. . .and making a mess or a grand artis-

tic creation.

J.O.Y. School is so many people coming together to share goodness and kindness and love.

J.O.Y. School is thankful. Always thankful to God for everything each day brings.

The Blessing of the J.O.Y. School Greenhouse

The Elks Lodge donated a greenhouse to PIPC and the

Church Clean-Up Day Page 13

CHURCH CLEAN-UP DAY The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming,

the pollen is falling and you know what that means-

It’s time to spruce up PIPC from the INSIDE-OUT!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We’re having a Church Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April

13th from 8:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Last year we had over 70 people working and we

need to exceed that number this year! We will need people to work inside and outside all

of the buildings as well as on the grounds. If you would be willing to help, please complete

the bottom of this insert and return it to the church office or put it in the offering plate.

This is one small way that you can give back to PIPC and God. Lunch will be provided for

everyone that helps beautify PIPC!
