THE PDPS ACTIVITIES DURING OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER 2010

THE PDP PARTY HELD THE KATHINA FESTIVAL. AND ALSO PROTESTED AGAINST THE

GENERAL ELECTION HELD BYTHE BURMESE MILITARY REGIME

At the end of every monsoon season, the KATHINA festival takes place. From the time of Lord Buddha, 2500

years ago, Buddhists have celebrated each year.

As the story goes; whilst the Lord Buddha, was residing at his monastery, farmers, from villages nearby,

came to see him bearing a complaint that, his disciples, when visiting other villages, used the paddy fields,

as a short cut, but in doing so, trampled underfoot, their newly grown paddy plants, rendering them

useless. The Lord Buddha, taking the complaint very seriously, ordered his disciples to stay at their

monasteries during the four months of monsoon, allowing the paddy plants to mature. From then on, the

disciples, only travelled freely again in October, after the rainy season, this allowed the farmers to harvest

their paddy trees successfully. On completion of their task, they paid homage to the monks.

It was during their visit to the monasteries, farmers observed that, residing monks were seriously lacking in,

food, medicines, yellow robes, and other essentials, due to their self imposed confinement, for the four

months of the monsoon, thus, preventing them, from receiving communal aid. From this observation, and

feeling guilty, they created a festival, known as, the KATHINA festival. The aim of the festival was to offer an

opportunity, where people could donate essentials to the monks. Each new generation, carried on the

tradition of celebrating the KATHINA festival each year, continuing to the present day. The majority of the

PDP members are staunch Buddhist followers, and they too, each year, organise the KATHINA festival

during October and November.

Ironically, the festival, held by the PDP in November 2010, coincided with the farcical General Election,

staged by the SPDC, military regime. PDP members stood firm against the military regime, denouncing the

General Election as being undemocratic, thereof, do not recognise its result, declaring it as invalid,

whereupon, the PDP, will continue to oppose the military regime until its expulsion from power, making

way for the restoration, of a true democracy to Burma.

The PDP and its members, humbly make the following request:

(1) People of Burma:Boycott The military regimes new government, which is nothing more than an old

wine in the new bottle

(2) People of Burma: Join the PDP. Join our ranks against the new military regime, help expand our

strength and fortitude, and restore democracy to Burma.

(3) People of Burma: Unite with the PDP, bring democracy back to Burma, in our time.

(4) Burma army:- To all rank and File; do not allow, the murderous regime, to use you as their personal

tools of evil, against your own people, leaving you, to become the scapegoats on the day of reckoning,

which will surely come soon.

(5) United Nations: Do not sit idly by, while the murderous military leaders of Burma commit acts against

humanity on a daily basis.

(6) United Nations: It would be contemptuous, to say the least, as an international body that preaches anddictates, all manner of policies appertaining to human rights, to recognise the election of; 7
