Electronic Delivery of School Reports Reports this term will be delivered electronically via Connect. It is absolutely essential that you provide the office with your email

address and if it has changed or will change that you let the office know. By using Con-nect to deliver reports you will have a permanent electronic copy of your child's re-port. Prior to obtaining your report you will be required to access Connect.

Connect Connect access to parents is now being used in our school as a means of sharing learn-ing content. Each parent and guardian has been given their own secure login to Con-nect. If you have not received yours please email the school at [email protected] You can access Connect at the following link http://connect.det.wa.edu.au When you login to Connect you will be able to see information related to your child’s class. Riding to School It is wonderful to see so many families and children riding, scootering and skate board-ing to school. Some important points to remember when riding to school are:

Always wear a helmet that is properly fitted and fastened; Park your bike, scooter, skateboard in the bike racks and lock them;

Dismount your bike, scooter, skateboard on school grounds;

School Attendance We greatly appreciate you having your child attend school regularly and arrive on time. Consistent and punctual attendance is essential for your child’s social and academic learning. As parents or legal guardians of an enrolled child, you are responsible under the School Education Act 1999 to ensure the attendance of your child at school every day. It is important to assist your child’s achievement and learning by making regular school attendance a priority in your child’s life. The Department of Education’s Stu-dent Attendance policy requires parents/guardians to provide an acceptable explana-tion to the school Principal for any absence of their children. Your continued support in maximizing your child’s attendance at school is valued and will significantly benefit your child. Dogs on School Grounds Please do not bring your dogs (and other animals) onto our school grounds. Some students may be fearful of animals and need to feel safe. Should you and your child(ren) walk to and from school with your dog, please have your dog walked on a lead. You are responsible for your dog at all times – please do not tie your dog up unsupervised near any school entrances while you are within the school grounds. For health reasons we do not want dog (or other animal) excreta within and around our school. Please be considerate to our school community and clean-up after your dog. Before School Kindergarten Playground It is imperative that you closely supervise your child(ren) before school and ensure that your child(ren) are not using the Kindergarten playground. The Department of Educa-tion has a Duty of Care to ensure all children are safe and ready for the school day.

Building Resilient Children All children are capable of extraordinary things. There is no happiness gene, no success gene, and no ‘doer of extraordinary things’ gene. The potential for happiness and greatness lies in all of them, and will mean different things to different kids. We can’t change that they will face challenges along the way. What we can do is give them the skills so these challenges are never able to break them. We can build their resilience. Resilience is being able to bounce back from stress, challenge, tragedy, trauma or adversity. When children are resilient, they are braver, more curious, more adaptable, and more able to extend their reach into the world. The great news is that resilience is something that can be nurtured in all children. Building small humans into healthy, thriving big ones isn’t about clearing adversity out of their way. Of course, if we could scoop them up and lift them over the things that would cause them to stumble, that would be a wonderful thing, but it wouldn’t necessarily be doing them any favours. A little bit of stress is life-giving and helps them to develop the skills they need to flourish. Strengthening them towards healthy living is about nurturing within them the strategies to deal with that adversity. Here’s some great tips;

Encourage the reliable presence of at least one supportive relationship.

Increase their exposure to people who care about them. Let them know that it’s okay to ask for help.

Help them manage their own behaviour and feelings.

Exercise - it strengthens and reorganises the brain to make it more resilient to stress.

Nurture the feeling of confidence in them – reminds them they can do hard things.

Model resiliency - Imitation is such a powerful way to learn.
