The People of Kalavai

The heart of our mission revolved around the colony of Kalavai which consists of 30 houses about a mile outside of the village of Kalavai. These people were born into one of the lowest castes and have grown up thinking themselves as untouchable. Their caste actually meant the people of darkness, coming from the dirt under the god’s feet. GCC has a laser focus on Southern India and for the past 4 years have focused their energy and love on the colony of Kalavai. Their homes were crumbling, there was no clean water, and there was a sense of hopelessness. However, a new hope has come to these people just as the living well of Christ promises. They all have new homes, there is a 300 ft deep bore well with clean water, and the children are attending the village school for the first time in the history of the colony.

As you look at the pictures of these beautiful people, you can see the light in their eyes and hope in their smiles. During my short time with them, I found my own peace and felt deeply touched by their hospitality despite their meager belongings. The community is thriving and I feel blessed to have had the chance to be the hands and feet of our Lord. During that week I felt the Kingdom of God advance and experienced a small window where my world was in tune with His will.
