Chew-

bacca’s

words

NEED to

be repeated:

“Uuuuuuuuuuur

Ahhhhhrrrrrr

Uhrrr Ahhhrrrrr

Aaaarhg …”

Paul

said, “If I speak

with the tongues

of men and of

angels and have

not love I speak like Chewbacca.”

Paul urges us to love. Jesus’s words were certainly seasoned with love. He backed

his words with his actions. That’s a part of what makes his words medicine for our broken

heart, light for our darkness, our peace in trials. His words were like apples of gold in set-

tings of silver. Jesus embodied the gospel. That’s a part of what made him and his words

“gospel”—“good news”—great news.

Angry words. Condescending words. Intolerant words. Proud words. False words.

Ambiguous words. Gossip. Those words build walls rather than bridges. They clinch fists

instead of opens arms to embrace. Those words sound like, “Uuuuuuuuuuur Ahhhhhrrrrrr

Uhrrr Ahhhrrrrr Aaaarhg …”

One person said, “Raise your words and not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers

not thunder.”

Here are a few words that build bridges and promote healing:

“There you are!”

“What? You too? I thought I was the only one.”

“I apologize for ....”

“Can we talk?”

“I don’t know what you’re going through, but I care about you.”

“Wow! I knew you could do it.”

Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

Season your words with the love that is in your heart.

In His love, Martin

You can count the apples on the tree, but who can count the ap-ples in a seed?” goes the old aphorism. So it is with the influence of a single person. Take Edward Kimball, for an example. Never heard of him? You’re not unique in that sense. Most people have never heard of him.

Kimball was a Sunday school teacher who not only prayed for the often rowdy boys in his class but also sought to win each one to the Lord. If Kimball ever felt like giving up, he never talked about it. If you have ever taught the Bible to young boys, you know that the experience can often be like herding cats.

One young man, in particular, didn’t seem to understand what the gospel was about so Kimball went to the shoe store where he was stocking shelves and confronted him in the stock room with the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That young man was Dwight L. Moody. In the stockroom on that Satur-day, he received Jesus Christ as his Savior. In his lifetime, Moody touched two continents for God, with untold thousands coming to faith in Jesus Christ.

But the story doesn’t end there. Actually that’s where it begins. While Moody was preaching in England the heart of a pastor named F.B. Meyer was set on fire, who later came to an American college campus to preach.

Under his preaching a student by the name of Wilbur Chapman was saved. Chapman became an evangelist who preached to thousands. One day, a professional ball player had a day off and attended one of Chapman’s meetings, and thus, Billy Sunday was converted.

Sunday quit baseball and became part of Chapman’s team. Then, Chapman accepted the pastorate of a large church and Billy Sun-day began his own evangelistic crusades. Billy Sunday held a re-vival in Charlotte, North Carolina and because the revival stirred the hearts of many, some 30 business men wanted to devote a day of prayer for Charlotte.

In May of 1934 a farmer was approached, and asked to lend the men some land to use for their prayer meeting. The farmer agreed, and the leader of the business men, Vernon Patterson prayed, "Out of Charlotte the Lord would raise up someone to preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth."

A young man who had been converted under Billy Sunday’s preaching was invited to speak. His name was Mordecai Ham. He was a scholarly, dignified gentleman who wasn’t above renting a hearse and parading it through the streets advertising his meet-ings.

That farmer who lent the land for that prayer meeting? Well, his son became a Christian that night. You might have heard of him, his name was Billy Graham. Continued on page 4

PRAYER CHAIN: Call the church office at 336-4576

Continued from page 3—Youth Ministers article….. As of 2008, Billy Graham’s estimated lifetime audi-ence, including radio and television broadcasts, topped 2.2 billion. That means that approximately 2.2 billion people have heard the gospel from Billy Gra-ham’s mouth. That’s hard to wrap your mind around.

This fascinating chain of events was triggered by a Sunday school teacher’s concern for his boys. If you are like most people, you have served in some capaci-ty and wondered at times if you were making a real difference or not. Maybe you’ve thought about quitting because you didn’t think you were making any differ-ence.

Next time you are tempted to give up, please remem-

ber Edward Kimball, whose persistence and faithful-

ness was tremendously honored by the Lord. The sto-

ry would have looked very differently if Edward Kimball

did not take his Saturday to seek out young Dwight

Moody.

You can count the apples on a tree, but only God

knows how many apples are in a single seed.

Do your part today in the Kingdom and trust God for

the results.

AED now installed The church has recently purchased a AED (Automated External Defibrilla-tor). Property Committee has in-stalled it in the hallway leading to the Education Wing of the church. This unit is used to treat the most common

causes of sudden cardiac arrest. SCA is a condition that occurs when the heart unexpectedly stops pumping. SCA can occur to anyone, infant, child, adult. The only effective treatment for ventricular fibrillation is defibrillation. The AED unit treats VF by sending a shock across the heart, so it can start beating again. Should anyone need this treat-ment, the AED unit has voice instructions for each step when using the defibrillator.
