The Perry Christian First Christian Church Disciples of Christ

What does your sign

say?

When I lived in Kilgore I drove past a

church every day with this sign that

needed repair. From time to time the

sign read, “First Church of ‘OD.’” And

that describes the church, doesn’t it?

Christians are a little strange—

believing Someone who was executed

2000 years ago is alive today and is our best friend. Peter says, “You are a chosen genera-

tion, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people ...” I don’t know about you, but I

qualify fine as peculiar.

Another time when I drove past the church the sign read “First Church of

‘0’” (zero). On a scale of 1 to 10—it’s a “0”. I don’t think so. Any church with people who

love Jesus and share the wonder of his love is a “10.”

But why not the church of “0” (zero)--in the sense of selfless? Aren’t we to deny

ourselves, take up our cross daily and follow him? Didn’t Jesus choose a “zero” kind of

life—who, being in the very nature of God, didn’t consider equality with God something to

be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant …” And us?

With a smile of great satisfaction a pastor admired the new church sign in front of

the church. The sign read: OAK ROAD CHURCH Bible believing;, hand clappin’, foot

stompin’, hemlines below the knee, tie wearing, blood-washed, coffee-and-donuts-during-

Sunday-School eatin’, council of Nicaea appreciating’, nondenominational Church.

What does our church sign say about us?

Each of us is a sign that says something about the church. What are you saying

about the church and about your personal faith?

Make sure your sign says “you are welcome,” “open to all,” “we want visitors.”

Make sure the sign out front says “love.”

in His love, Martin

CHOIR NOTES

I hope you are looking forward to this Sunday's worship. The youth will be

in charge, so it is sure to be energetic and uplifting!

We will once again have a combined choir for Community Relations Sun-

day. If you'd like to sing with us, please join us in the sanctuary for re-

hearsal from 7:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesdays, Feb. 10, 17, and

24. We would love to have you, and I know you will find it very rewarding.

See you Sunday!

Community Relations

Sunday

February 28, 2016

We are excited about our new Sunday format, and want to

invite your family to join us! Each week at 9:15 we begin in

the Sanctuary with Josh Spiegel leading us in song, and then

break into smaller “family groups” for Bible study and dis-

cussion.

Family groups are informal, conversational, casual, and

fun. The groups are made up of multiple families

“smooshed” together, and are intended for ages Birth - 200.

There really is something for everyone! While getting to

know one another, we will also reflect on our faith and con-

sider how our faith connects with day-to-day life.

We hope you’ll consider this chance to step back from your

busy pace, meet some new people, and connect your faith

with your life.

On Wednesday nights the youth will go deeper into what we

heard in family group on Sunday morning. We would like to

be able to break the youth into small groups of 10-12 students

for 20 minutes of discussion following a short lesson, but we

need help!

This past semester the YG was averaging 50 Junior high &

High School students, with only 5 adults to oversee, teach,

and shepherd these teenagers. We have some of the best

Youth Ministry volunteers anywhere and they have stepped

up in HUGE ways for these kids, but we want to see the

number of adults involved in the youth ministry continue to

grow!

Consider getting involved. Bake a cake. Drive a van. Maybe

even lead a small group.

Make sure to join us for a combined worship service on

Youth Sunday this week! Worship begins at 10:30, and there

will be a fellowship dinner afterwards. The teenagers and

children have been working hard for this special service. We

hope you'll join us and get to know some of these youth and

their families.

Wade

If you have questions, or would like to be involved

with youth programming, please call or text Wade @

405.385.2584

Sign ups are available in the foyer to help out with youth activities on Wednesday’s. Needs are van drivers, van riders, adult supervision, adults to help prepare snacks, bring snacks,

Caraway Street block parents.

January 6

Join us as we kick off a new semester with these kids who are eager to

learn more about Jesus.

For more information or to sign up call the church office or Wade.
