Behaviorists are quick to point out ‐ to change a behavior repeat, repeat, repeat a new behavior un l it becomes a habit. Repeat the habit with others, and habit becomes a culture.

Culture: the arts and other manifesta ons of human intellectual achievement regarded collec ve‐ly.

Honored to say PWCC has expanded our culture to now include Wednesday “a ernoon” carving! This has become part of the club’s regular rou ne. We are averaging 25 carvers over the Wednes‐day a ernoon and evening.  An event fueled by the fellowship of crea ve carvers, sharing and fashioning beau ful art from wood.  We are changing all our literature from “Wednesday Night Carve In” to just Wednesday Carve In”, to adver se Wednesday Carve‐in star ng a 2:00 PM. But normally the chips start flying any  me a er noon. So, if you have not dropped in on Wednesday’s Carve‐in, consider this your personal invita on, to drop in, pull up a seat and carve awhile. How fun!

Also, it is hard to miss all the ac vity around the club. Last Saturday was an example of how busy we are….. 3+ events on the same day!  1) Orchard Davis’ pyrography class in the club room, 2) An‐derson County Library’s How‐to‐fes val and 3) Annual Spring Fling at the Mauldin Culture Center. And as a demonstra on of extra effort, members sold hot dogs and walking tacos at the spring fling to raise money for our show.  I am so proud to be a member of such a caring and sharing fel‐lowship.

Also check out the club calendar, many other fun events on the horizon. With special note of this summer’s Maudlin Farmer’s Market @ the culture center will be 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Tuesday nights. Please plan on helping support the Piedmont Wood Carving Club tent during this event.  Keep carving and keep smiling!

THE PIEDMONT CARVER

Thanks so much, to people who have turned in Angels of Hope. I have several yet to finish sand and finish. Because of my recent tight schedule and the need for more efficiency in sanding, I have purchased a Guinevere sanding system. I will bring it to the meeting next week, and if weather permitting, will set it up outside and let people try it out. With the goal of sanding all the remaining angels currently in process and let folks try out a new tool.

Saturday at the spring fling, a pastor for a local church, picked up an angel and information about our program to take back to his church to see if there is interest in having a beginning wood carving class to carve Angels of Hope.

Also, at our spring fling table, we included a donation bucket as part of the Angels of Hope dis-play. In total, people donated $38 dollars to purchase more wood for our project. Time and time again, after I have explained the program, explained why we carve angels, and they have held an angel in their hand, folks will tell me “I get it”. Then they will share their story. Wish you could hear their touching stories. So many stories. I saw numerous people, look at our dis-play, walk away, only to circle back and drop a dollar or two in the bucket.

Thanks Dave

Anyone that has looked at dust collectors for power carving knows they can be pricey. I first saw this laptop dust collector when taking a Carol Jean Boyd class on Cypress Knees. She uses this same collec-tor and after watching how well it works, I wanted one. It can be placed in your lab or leaned against the edge of a table. It is very easy to position near your power tool and carving so the dust is effectively pulled away from your carving. These are made and sold by a fellow carver Joe Dubey from Bay City, Michigan. The cost is $45 for the dust collector (12 x 18 inches) and 1 bag. Shipping and extra bags are extra. My total delivered was just under $60 and it works great. Joe can be reached by email at [email protected]. Let Joe know you are a Piedmont Wood Carvers Club member and you got his info from our newsletter. Greg Barnes

Wednesday Carve In

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE! IS IT YOU?

We are looking for someone to commit to being at the clubhouse early Wednesday afternoon (as Charlie Arnold says "any time after noon") to open the door and be there when carvers arrive. You don't have to stay all day; carvers have been coming in at different hours and many stay until after the evening group arrives. We all blend together and work together to sharpen our craft.

You can name the time you would be willing to be there. We would like to promote this to our members as a "real time event" but need a carver to commit. IS IT YOU?

If you are willing, please let Dick Card or Danny Hammond know. Contact info is below. Help us make this an "ongoing event".
