A Christian friend and mentor of mine named

Ned Green once taught me the following. If one

has the Word without the Spirit, they dry up; if

one has the Spirit without the Word, they blow

up; and if one has the Word and the Spirit, they

grow up. My prayer for all of us at Pine Grove

UMC is that we as a Christian community strive

to grow up in Christ. Thus, if we are to grow in

our Christian maturity, we need to be intention-

al in pursuing a deepening understanding of the

ways of God through the Word (the Scriptures)

as well as through pursing a deepening under-

standing of and relationship with the Person of

the Holy Spirit.

With this in mind, I am offering two exciting

opportunities to grow as disciples of Jesus

Christ. While the emphasis differs, my hope is

that both will help us grow in Christ. One

opportunity is through taking part in a small

group that I am offering on Mondays beginning

August 26th from 6:30-8:00. This study is called

Disciple, and it is a rich opportunity to develop a

strong foundation in the Word of God. This group

study will run through mid-May (not meeting on

Labor Day or a few weeks around Christmas). I

highly encourage you to consider being a part of

this group. The space is limited to 12 people.

Second, I will be leading a new and exciting small

group beginning July 14th and concluding Oct.

27th. This small group will focus on discovering

and living out our identity in Jesus Christ. These

meetings will take place on Sunday afternoons

from 1:30-3:30 and will include viewing and

discussing several transformational DVD’s related

to this topic.

If you desire to be part of either or both of these

growth opportunities, please contact the church

office.

The Christians In Action youth

group has been busy over the last

several months. In December we

created a Christmas light show,

and organized a public event

around it. We also attended

the “Jesus” show at Sight and

Sound theater.

The C.I.A. Band learned two new

songs, and performed “Do you

hear what I hear” at Christmas,

and “Chain Breaker” in the spring.

We will soon take a break from

our weekly meetings for the

summer, but that doesn’t mean

we’ll inactive. We will be helping

with the church yard sale and

the 150th anniversary event the

first weekend of June. Then at

the end of June we are going to

Creation, a huge Christian music

festival in the mountains of

western Pennsylvania.

In July, we’ll be helping to

prepare for, and run VBS at the

end of the month. We are hoping

to get together for a, yet to be

determined, fun event in August,

and then will resume our weekly

meetings after labor day.

Look around, and you just might

see us… “in action”.

Blessings,

Kevin Shenberger, Youth Director

Update

It’s a safe place to share our concerns and our happiness and to offer each other support. This is not a Bible Study, and also there’s no homework.

Please join us on Thursdays from 6:45-8:00 at Valarie Fisher’s house at 2425 Home-land Rd. (just two minutes down the hill from the church).

Text Cindy Kalinoski at 717-676-6146 to sign up or learn more.

Beginning Thursday, June 20, we are kicking off another Life Group.

Based on Methodist-founder John Wesley's small group format, Life Groups offer opportunities to grow together as we live out life with God beyond Sunday morning.

for a mechanical lift to be rent-

ed to reach the lights and the

cost of the bulbs themselves.

Also, there may be some ballast

in the lights that could need

replacement as well. Again this

is hard to price out because of

the need to reach the light fix-

tures. (PS when we get this

work done we will remove the

balloon that is stuck in the fan)

It has been pointed out the

lines in the parking lot are fad-

ing to the point of not being

very visible, especially the

traffic flow lanes. The last time

the Greek church had their food

festival, the traffic markings

were ignored and lanes were

parked closed which made

maneuvering to leave the lot

very difficult.

The trustees are open to all

who would like to assist in com-

pleting these projects. Please

let either the pastor or the trus-

tees know of your interest. We

have been blessed with several

donations that have bought a

new dishwasher for the parson-

age, have paid for the painting

of the stained glass window

outside, and have had the floors

in the Friendship Center,

kitchen, and upstairs bathrooms

stripped and waxed as well as

the lobby carpet shampooed.

In closing, the funds are low and these projects seem out of

out front need to be power

washed and freshened. There

are several items that need to

be sanded and refinished in the

sanctuary. If anyone would like

to assist please see Sue Shoff to

make arrangements.

There have been concerns

about the sound system in the

sanctuary and we have had

Activations Inc. come in to

assess the problems. Steps are

being taken to rectify the

issues. One issue is the use of

the microphones. When anyone

is using the microphone it must

be at the level of your mouth

and you must speak directly

into it. The cutting in and out of

the sound is from being close or

away from the microphones.

We are faced with three very

costly jobs that need to be

attended to in the near future.

The first is the skylights and

roof in the lobby. The skylights

are beginning to lose their seals

and need to be replaced. We

have had a patch job done on

the worst one but that will only

hold out for a short period of

time. The bid received was for

$4000.00.

The second is that the lighting

in the Fellowship center is

becoming poor mainly due to

light bulbs burning out. This

becomes costly due to the need

The trustees wanted to share

that just because the summer is

upon us, there will be no

stopping in getting the house-

hold chores done around Pine

Grove Church. We will be

having guests all year and that

means we move on with

keeping things looking good.

Volunteers for various projects

would be most welcomed.

As many have noted, lots of

things can be done ourselves. It

is only the big ticket items that

need a craftsman to do the job.

Many thanks to Frank Oberdick

for his painting of the outside

doors and railing. If you haven’t

noticed, please take a moment

to do so. We had a successful

work day in April that cleaned

and got our outside appearance

looking more presentable. If

you open our outside shed you

will see Bob Muller’s hard work

and how much room is there

when it was reorganized. (you

can actually find something.)

Some things to be done and

volunteers welcomed are sham-

pooing the carpets in the class-

rooms downstairs, stripping and

waxing the floors outside of the

church office and the bath-

rooms downstairs, and the

stairwell by the music room.

The outside shed needs new

siding applied. The old siding is

deteriorating and flaking off in

large sections. The church signs

reach but we are not a people of fear but a people of faith. We are told repeat-edly in the scriptures do not be afraid for the Lord your GOD is with you. May we step out in faith and call on the Lord not only for His leading in caring for His house of worship but also in calling those around us to come and worship together.
