RESEARCHIn the trailer Halloween I

like the use of silence and the

fact that the actually film

clips are what bring the fear

to the audience and

then the theme song is

introduced at the end. This

gives the main character an identity. Like “Jaws.” this is known as a aural motif.

In paranormal activity I like to the fact it is like home video so I could maybe do

my film like a documentary of events to create the feel of a true story. I also like the colours blue and green used

through it constantly to represent the ghost that is haunting the

women/ house.

PLOT IDEAS • The Calm before the

storm

• A young women/man who on the surface is a normal person. But when they can no longer keep up the front the cracks begin and the spine chilling secrets come out. What will happen when people realise who this person really is?

• Sinner Inside

• A well to do girl with a bright future, soon becomes part of a life which she would never of imagined for herself. Having the normality of her life ripped away and the horror of what has made home inside of her what will the she go to, to release herself of the sin inside?

SOUND IDEAS• In many trailers I have watched like: Halloween, Insidious 1&2, Jaws there is a

song that is played throughout the chains of films and this gives them there special identity but if I could find a “spooky” sound track I could use this in my trailer to try and create an identity for my film.

• When I analysed the trailers I found that a lot of films use sounds that are very unnerving a freaky such as Insidious 2. When the disruption is seen in the trailer there is a sound that in some ways imitates an evacuation alarm, this pulses so we can hear it get loud and then quiet again and this is a good way to create panic to the audience as the evacuation style rings signal panic and danger.

• In terms of sound trailers use the effect of silence and this keeps the audience on the edges of there seats because they think of horror and expect something to happen all of a sudden and the silence is a good way to create the suspension.

• In trailers there also tags used through out these sometimes are voiced in by a voice over which is normally very loud and a muffled. Taking this information on board I think maybe using a whisper would be a good effect as this would suggest that whatever is in the film, whether it be supernatural or a psycho killer, they need to be hide from it.

LOCATIONS • For my “ The calm before

the storm” my locations could be:

• College

• A community e.g use of a residential street.

• For my “Sinner inside” my locations could be:

• A house

• A derelict or unused building.

TYPICAL DIRECTION. • If I was to go with my Sinner inside idea I would use the research I

have done on other similar horrors and do more detailed analyse so that I could take all of the best aspects out of each one and emerge them together in my own way to create the best trailer I possible can. Also look at the posters and magazine covers for these trailer/ films and see what I can take from that to make mine look as professional and appealing as possible making it be exactly what my target audience are looking for.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

• Use of long shots when my trailer is first introducing my characters, medium shots and also wide shots so the audience have an outsiders point of view of the characters.

• Then as I introduce my disruption I will begin to use close-ups, extreme close-up this is so the audience can now feel like they are there with the characters and this will help to create a scare and fear around the film as the audience will feel they are with the characters.

• Medium shots and over the shoulders shots this is so the audience can feel like they are behind the characters in there journey.

• High and low angled shots to create a sense of vulnerability and status at different points.

EDITING

• I will use jump cuts as a way to create panic and danger in my trailer as they are very fast and sometimes confusing it will fit perfectly in with the trailer for a horror film.

• At the beginning of the trailer fades and dissolves will be a good way top relate scenes together for example a scene of the character doing their normal day things and then a dissolve or a fade into them experiencing supernatural events that they aren’t familiar to.

• Cutaway’s can be effective also for example in insidious 2 they are used to show the women in her home and the it cuts away to a strange women sat on the sofa and then get up and walk out of the room then cuts away to the corridor that the woman should be but there is no sign of her and the it cuts away to a close-up of the women and she is shocked and scared. This is a good way to fit all the interesting parts in to the trailer to appeal to the target audience with having to have boring bits in there.

MISE-EN-SCENE

• Low key lighting to create a dark undertone to the trailer to relate to Horror.

• Use of colours such as: Red- to represent anger, blood, death, danger.

• Costumes and make-up are going to have to be researched so that I can give my actors the best effect to create the character/s I am want to portray. To do this I will watch trailers/ horror films so that I can see what they do.

HOW TO LINK IT TO MY ANCILLARY TASKS

• To link my trailer to my poster and my magazine cover I will use the colours that I have used throughout the trailer. For example Paranormal Activity the colour green is used throughout the film so the poster also has the drain of green and this is to link the film and the poster together so that the audience are clear on the themes and genre.

• Also in terms of make-up and costume I will use this on my poster and magazine cover to be clear to my target audience.

• Tags that I use in my trailer for example “Coming soon” use the same font and style so this creates another link between the three.

WHAT I NEED TO ACHIEVE WHAT I WANT TO DO

• Source appropriate Props from places such as charity shops, joke shops.

• Suitable Locations such as homes, derelict buildings (following health and safety)

• Research what makes a good trailer - for this I have started detailed analysis of trailers and horror films.

• Costumes/ makeup – Use the trailers I have researched to see how they use make-up and costumes to create representations and characters.

• Reliable actors/actresses for the characters so my trailer is ready for the deadline.

• Know how to use software and equipment and know when I have access to do that. This is so I can get the best possible shots and also emerge them together perfectly using final cut.
