HOW LIGHTING AFFECTS THE LOOK OF YOUR FLOOR

Flooring is one of the biggest surface areas in your home and a key design element to any interior. When selecting your hard flooring, colour plays just as much of an important role as price, style and quality.

It is important to take into consideration how your selected hard flooring may look once it is installed in your home as the lighting in the room will have a significant impact on the way the colour is perceived.

For example, hard flooring that is laid in a room that receives little to no natural light will appear drastically different to a room that has a lot of natural light coming in. It will also appear different as the light changes throughout the day and transitions from morning to night.

Natural sunlight is not the only lighting that has an impact on the colour of your hard flooring; the type of light fixtures you have in the room will also play a part in how the hard flooring will look in your room.

Indirect lighting, such as a wall bracket aims light toward ceilings or walls, whereas a lampshade or floor lamp has a wider spread of light, therefore the light displayed will rebound against walls and floor.

For the best representation, we recommend going into your local Choices Flooring store and request to take a sample of your desired colour home. In addition, take a sample that is a shade darker so you can compare the two shades in both natural and artificial light at various times throughout the day to ensure you are happy with the true colour of the product within your room.

This can include paint colour on walls, furniture and décor items that can alter the appearance of your floors.

These days it can be hard to tell the difference between actual timber and timber look laminate, as today’s superior boards are made to mimic the same grain, character and wonderful texture of various timber species.

If you’ve got a large floor area to cover, or are simply keen to stick to a tight budget, the cost of laminate is incrediblyattractive. For those who want a hardwood floor without the price-tag, laminate is a wonderful alternative as its far more affordable and creates a very similar look and feel.

l a m i n a t eLaminate flooring is incredibly resistant to day-to-day wear and tear and is both easy and cost efficient to maintain properly. The following maintenance guidelines will help to ensure that your laminate flooring always looks its very best.

REGULAR MAINTENANCESweep or vacuum (bristles down) as often as necessary to remove any loose dirt or grit before it can scratch the surface of your floor. If a spill occurs, promptly wipe it up with damp cloth or damp mop, be sure to ring out any excess water.

Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or scouring powder on your floor and never wax or polish your floor. Steam mops must not be used.

PREVENTATIVE CARE TIPSWhen moving heavy furniture or items back into position after the installation has been completed, use rigid protective sheets on the surface of your floor and avoid sliding or dragging furniture or appliances into place. In high traffic areas, make use of a runner or area rug. To prevent scratching, use felt protectors under heavy pieces of furniture and chairs that are frequently moved.

You may also want to consider installing window furnishings that will protect your floor from strong sunlight as laminate flooring can become discoloured when exposed to daily sunlight.

CLEANING KITWe recommend using a manufacturer approved cleaning kit on your laminate flooring. Check with your Choices Flooring sales consultant on which product is right for your flooring.
