Dear Urban League Supporter,

We would like to thank you for being a part of “The Opportunity Generation” and helping families achieve financial stability through the ULCC Continuum of Opportunity Model for Economic and Social Mobility. This year we were the first organization in Charlotte to host a dialogue on national economic mobility studies having predicted the need to address economic mobility in the groundbreaking 2011 book, Faces of Reality: The State of Ethnic Charlotte. Most important, we followed many of the recommendations of the State of Ethnic Charlotte that have now proven to be successful with your support. In April, the ULCC held an economic mobility press conference where Marc Morial, National Urban League President, along with other local leaders provided insights and key solutions to reducing economic disparities in Charlotte Mecklenburg county.

This past fiscal year, ULCC workforce graduates earned over $12 million in salaries. This is a record for our agency. We partnered with City StartUp Labs and launched the Entrepreneurial Academy that resulted in seven new businesses from financially challenged communities. We were one of the first to implement nationally certified technology training programs in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Union County Schools. We secured over $6.2 million of funding for eleven small and minority businesses and new bank accounts for over 400 non-banked families. We successfully merged the Jacob’s Ladder Job Readiness program and increased the number of workforce participants assisted by over 40%. We were the first workforce sector agency to merge in Charlotte Mecklenburg County.

Our program successes are supported by our fiscal and audit successes. The National Urban League ranked the ULCC as an “Outstanding Affiliate” as part of its national audit. This is the highest designation an Urban League affiliate can receive. We were also named the “2014 Most Improved Affiliate.” We were given a “Clean” audit designation by Certified Public Accountant audit. Most important, for every $1 invested in our workforce and entrepreneurial programs, $15.35 went back out into the community through earned incomes of our graduates. This investment ratio is a record for the agency.

These accomplishments have been generated through private support and fund development. Over 85% of the ULCC’s lean budget is generated from private sector and individual giving. This year’s Investment Guide for events and sponsorships fund education and training programs. We have new looks for our events and accommodations for our sponsors, which makes the investment even greater.

We invite you to consider our new look “2015 Investment Guide” that funds all of our education and training programs. This year’s new and exciting events and opportunities for sponsors make investing now a solid return on investment.

Yours in the Movement,

Dr. Patrick C. GrahamPresident and CEO

ULCC PROGRAMSOur Job readiness, nationally certified work force, entrepreneur and youth programs are structured around our Continuum of Opportunity for Economic and Social Mobility model. With Harvard University’s 2014 study on economic mobility which ranked Charlotte the lowest of 50 large cities for moving people out of poverty, our programs are groundbreaking. ULCC Programs not only equip customers with the tools they need to get hired but also to maintain upward economic and social mobility. Through key partnerships with community businesses and community leaders, the ULCC can offer an array of opportunities for Charlotte Mecklenburg and Union County community members to gain sustainable access to education, training, placement and ultimately dignity.
