All but one have been white males.

Most have won elections before.

Most have college degrees.

Many have been lawyers.

Most grew up states with large populations.

Presidential Elections

Take place every four years 2000, 2004, 2008……

Electoral College, not a direct popular election decides the election.

Electoral College System

Each state has an many electoral votes as the total of its U.S. senators and representatives.

Winner-take-all system 538 total electors 270 to win an election

Goes to the House of Representatives to decide if no one receives 270 electors

Term of Office

Four year term Limited to two elected

terms in office or Maximum of 10 years

Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to 4 terms

Requirements

Must be at least 35 years of age.

Must be a natural born U.S. citizen.

Must have lived in the United States for 14 years.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is set at $400,000 Plus money for expenses and travel.

Lives in the White House Domestic staff of more than 80 people takes care

of the family Camp David Fleet of special cars, helicopters, and

airplanes, including Air Force One.
