A NOTE FROM THE MUSIC DIRECTOR
It’s my favorite activity of the week.
I always feel better when I leave than when I arrive.
It’s great therapy!
These are a few of the comments I’ve heard through the years about choir rehearsal. It’s been proven time
after time that singing is good for your body and your soul! Singing energizes you and lifts your spirits.
Singing good choral music fills your mind with scripture and God’s promises, as well as beautiful melodies.
Our First Presbyterian adult choir is a family that loves and supports each other. Rehearsals are a time of re-
warding work as well as laughter and Christian fellowship.
If you enjoy singing, consider joining our Chancel Choir. We invite you to make a “no-strings-attached” visit
to choir rehearsal to see what it’s all about. You don’t have to be able to read music to sing with us. Contrary
to what you might think, about half the members of our adult choir don’t read music!
The Chancel Choir rehearses each Wednesday night immediately following GTF. The new choir season be-
gins on Wednesday, September 5th. I hope to see you there! Sylvia Trimmier
THE MUSIC MEMORIAL FUND
You may not know that several years ago our church
started a music memorial fund. This is an excellent way
to honor the memory of family and friends. This money
is used to help with needs like new choral music, hand-
bell music, and instruments. Please consider supporting
our church’s music ministry in this unique way.
“Inside Out,” our last summer movie, will begin at
7:00 p.m. in the Centre on August 1. We will have
popcorn, candy, and Cokes, and you're welcome to
bring a beanbag or a comfy chair.

To find God:
“It is a once in a life time opportunity. Too good to
pass up.” How many times have you heard these
words and been pressured to take advantage of some
offer and how many times were they true?
There is one life changing offer that is always true and
too good to pass up. In the case of the kingdom of God,
the claims Jesus made are definitely true. Matthew
13:44-46…the kingdom of heaven is like treasure, …the
kingdom is like fine pearls. Remember the man and
merchant found these treasures, sold all they had and
bought the treasures. In chapter 13 of Matthew, Jesus
tells parables repeatedly emphasizing how seeking and
living in the reality of His kingdom isn’t natural. God’s
kingdom is so countercultural, in Jesus’ day and even
more so now, that Jesus used the word “yeast” to
describe it. (“The kingdom is like yeast that a woman
took and mixed it into a large amount of flour until it
worked its way through all the dough.”) What would
our world be like if we took the “Good News” and
worked it into all areas of our lives and the lives of
those around us? That is the good part of using
“yeast.” But in many places in the Bible “Yeast” is used
to describe corruption and evil (Hosea 7:4, Matt.16:6,
11; and 1 Cor. 5:6-13). This would be like saying the
kingdom is like a virus or it ruins everything. Why in
the world would Jesus say this? Was he trying to tell
us that experiencing and living for His kingdom would
not always be comfortable or easy? It may “ruin” our
plans, assumptions and comfort. But it is more than
worth it. It is the treasure that is infinitely precious,
and the source of endless joy. Always worth it and is
not too good to be true.
Jesus offers but we must accept. “Seek and you WILL
find: knock and the door WILL be opened to you.“
Matthew 7:7. All thru the Bible, God promises that
those who seek Him will find Him. We must turn from
sin and seek Him with all of our heart.
To find God, we must seek Him.
The prayer of St. Patrick, known as the “Morning
Prayer,” begins with “I arise today through the
strength of heaven….I arise today through God’s
strength to pilot me: God’s might to uphold me, guide
me, look before me, hear me, speak for me, guard me,
protect me, save me afar and near, alone and in
multitudes” and includes the part with which we are
more familiar. “Christ with me. Christ before me.
Christ behind me. Christ in me. Christ beneath me.
Christ above me. Christ on my right. Christ on my left.
Christ when I lie down. Christ when I arise. Christ
when I sit down…..I arise today through the mighty
strength of the Lord of creation.” Amen.
