Paquete de trabajo 4 (M6-M48): Evaluación Agronómica y Medioambiental de biochar, compost y mezclas de biochar y compost.

Se evaluarán aspectos nutricionales y otros posibles beneficios de su aplicacion. También se analizarán los ciclos de C y N involucrados en la inmobilizacion de C en el suelo y emisiones de Gases de Efecto Invernadero así como qué hacer con los contaminantes persistentes asociados al uso de biochar y compost y mezclas de los mismos.

Paquete de trabajo 5 (M6-M48): Uso sostenible y producción eficiente.

Análisis del ciclo de vida del compost y del biochar, las mejores prácticas para un uso seguro y la evaluación económica (recolección, tratamientos, aplicaciones y productos finales) y valoración de la viabilidad de los procesos.

Conclusiones hasta la fecha de PT 2: Análisis de los residuos en todas las regiones de la UE27 en base a su potencial de reemplazo de

fertilizantes minerales.

Definición de Bioresiduo:

“residuos biodegradables de jardines y parques, comidas, cocinas, hogares, restaurantes, caterings, establecimientos de ventas de comidas y plantas industriales alimentarias” (Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC) Existe un gran potencial de bioresiduos en Europa, sin

embargo en su mayoría no está siendo usado y está siendo enviado a vertederos.

Los residuos con mayor potencial de nutrientes son: 1. Estiércoles de animales.

2. Lodos de depuradora

3. Bio-residuos

La utilización de los bio-residuos se debe promover estableciendo objetivos europeos de reciclaje, pero estos objetivos se deben adaptar a las prácticas y culturas locales de cada región europea.

Hay que prestar atención a la Waste Framework Directive (Nuevos procedimientos sobre “End of Waste” para el tratamiento biológico (compost y digestatos)

Pese a su potencial nutritivo para producir compost y/o biochar, se desperdician ampliamente en vertederos.

Comenzó en Mes 3 (Febrero 2013) y acabará en el Mes 24 (Noviembre 2014). WIP

Se están haciendo pruebas de laboratorio de biochar y de campo con biochar de diferentes características (materias primas distintas: fracción orgánica de residuos municipales, residuos de industrias alimentarias, residuos agrícolas (de invernaderos, lignocelulósicos de roble, estiercoles). También se están haciendo pruebas con biochar producido a temperaturas bajas (150º), medias (300º) y elevadas (650º).

Estos análisis y los experimentos en compost se están haciendo siguiendo un protocolo realizado por el CSIC (como parte del PT4) que se basa en metodologías estándar (IBI).

Comenzó en Mes 3 (Febrero 2013) y acabará en el Mes 24 (Noviembre 2014). WIP

A su vez y en experiencia piloto, se ha desarrollado un vermicompost, con unos valores más que aceptables. Este vermicompost, en principio, se produce mayoritariamente con residuos agrícolas y aportes de fracción orgánica de RSU, poco significativas, (no superan el 5%).

Los lixiviados y aguas de lavado, se reutilizan para aporte en la producción de un Té de Humus.

Los análisis y los experimentos en compost se están haciendo siguiendo un protocolo realizado por ILVO-VLAGEW, Bélgica, involucrado en la evaluación de biochar, compost y mezclas de compost y biochar.) que se basa en metodologías estándar (IBI).

Comenzó en Mes 6 (Febrero 2013) y acabará en el Mes 48 (Noviembre 2015). WIP

Durante los primeros meses se estableció una metodología de análisis para la caracterización y evaluación agronómica del compost, del biochar, y de las mezclas.

A su vez a finales de 2012 se cerró entre todos los socios la estrategia final para los experimentos de campo. Esta estrategia facilitará la comparación de resultados obtenidos por los diferentes socios usando distintas prácticas agrícolas y condiciones medioambientales en distintas áreas geográficas. Los experimentos de campo estándar se realizarán a una dosis de referencia de 20T/ha, excepto para los experimentos en invernaderos que tendrán una dosis distinta.

Una de las conclusiones mas interesantes que se han obtenido son que el uso del biochar durante el proceso de compostaje suponen una reducción de emisiones de GHG (CO2 y CH4)

Valores básicos de diferentes mezclas de compost y biochar (267ºC)

Comenzó en Mes 6 (Febrero 2013) y acabará en el Mes 48 (Noviembre 2015). WIP

Durante los primeros meses se realizó una encuesta a agricultores de aceptación de los productos esperados de Fertiplus. La encuesta se realizó a agricultores de invernaderos y de producción extensiva.

Los resultados de la encuesta que se obtuvieron fueron satisfactorios con respecto al compost y no tanto con respecto al biochar (hay un gran desconocimiento sobre todo en agricultura intensiva del biochar y es por ello que son mas reacios a usarlo que los agricultores extensivos aunque estos últimos tienen pegas con respecto al coste).

Se hará un gran esfuerzo de diseminación y comunicación en Fertiplus para ayudar a los agricultores a entender los beneficios del compost, del biochar y las mezclas de ambos.
