Welcome to Hatbox Theatre and our 2016/2017 Inaugural Season!

Hatbox Theatre opened on April 1, 2016 after a marathon three week effort to transform the former Coldwater Creek storefront into a black box theatre space. Volunteers worked around the clock, seven days a week, in those weeks to build platforms, erect walls, install a lighting grid, clean and erect seats, sew curtain panels, paint floors and walls, create signs, hang posters, write copy, configure lighting and sound equipment, along with hundreds of other tasks to prepare. Our opening night performance of 2 Across (produced by Lend Me A Theater) not only filled every seat (including the folding chairs), but launched our mission to create a cooperative community to develop unique, intimate experiences for audiences and artists.

From April through August, “Season Zero” featured 76 performances by over 20 producers and engaged thousands of audience members in a venue that began with only 52 seats. We currently seat up to 99 seats in an intimate thrust-style setting (audiences on three sides of the playing area) to provide a unique experience for performer and audience alike. Season One expands on our initial offerings with world premieres, original and classic plays, variety entertainment, stand-up comedy, concerts, literature readings, art installations, performance workshops, humanities experiences, talks, burlesque, live podcast recording nights and more.

Hatbox Theatre is a cooperative venue managed and run by volunteers. Productions go through a pitch process and those that are selected for our season receive 60% of the ticket revenue. This allows producers to take more risks and brings audiences exciting new shows, classics, and non-traditional theatrical experiences in a venue that supports a strong artist/audience connection.Thank you for being a part of our inaugural season. We hope that you will continue to support Concord’s newest performing arts venue and "play a part" in bringing world-class original entertainment to New Hampshire audiences in a wonderfully intimate theatre. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you often in the Hatbox! o
