To help you get started, and to smooth your pathway through it, we would like you to prepare for September by developing and mastering your algebraic skills. We would like you to download and work through our A level Maths Induction Booklet. This can also be found by logging onto Moodle and selecting the AS Maths (Transition) webpage. The booklet is split into many sections so we encourage you to organise your time wisely and do Maths regularly throughout the summer. To further support you, we have links to many videos on the algebraic skills we want you to be fluent in. These can also be found on our AS Maths Moodle webpage. If you do not have a Hegarty Maths logon, please email [email protected] with your full name and date of birth. If you have forgotten your password, please select password reset and also send me an email. In the first two weeks of term, we will diagnostically assess your knowledge and skills, conduct a gap analysis and provide specific intervention to support you with the areas you need to develop. Over the years, many students have found A level Maths a challenge. However, you will find the path easier, enjoy it more and be more confident, if you are really on top of your algebra skills before the course starts in September. If you have any queries, don’t hesitate to contact me. Mr C Morris

2.) Create a mini case study about how this group are often represented by collecting images, news articles and any other media materials onto a ppt.

3.) Write a summary of what you have found out. How are that group represented in the media? Are there common stereotypes, is the representation positive or negative? Is the representation quite varied or does it share similar features?

4.) Now explain – why you think that group are represented in that way – why would the text producers want that group to be presented in that way?

Psychology: Look at the British Psychological Society website: www.bps.org.uk Research the approaches in psychology e.g. Cognitive, psychodynamic, biological, evolutionary, behaviourism and social learning theory. Use the internet or buy the course text book and use that. Observe: whilst on the beach/shopping etc observe the behaviour of others (eg. Obedience, queuing, aggression etc). What did you notice? Watch at least one of the following films:

Analyse This Minority Report

As Good As It Gets Mississippi Burning

Awakenings Rain Man

Donny Darko Shawshank Redemption

Marnie Silence of the Lambs

Memento We Need To Talk About Kevin

Read at least one of the following books: Genie – Russ Rymer Goodbye Dearest Holly – Kevin Wells Our Inner Ape – Frans de Vaal The Real Cracker – Stephen Cook The Humans – Matt Haig Brave New World – Aldous Huxley The Shock Of The Fall – Nathan Filer Sociology:

1. Please follow this blog: https://www.tutor2u.net/sociology/blog and select two posts of interest to share and discuss at the start of term. You should produce a 300 word piece of information about the topic of each post, what issues it raises about society and why you found it particularly interesting.

2. A lot of the information on this excellent sociology blog links to news articles and videos. Therefore it would

be fantastic for you to find some information that you would blog about yourself if you were part of the Sociology network. You need to source one news article (either a short video or newspaper article) about the role of the family in Britain today, and another about our education system (this could be about performance, the value of our qualifications, private education, state education, results etc.)

Sport: You will be taking an exam in Anatomy & Physiology at the end of year 12 and it is key to be able to name, identify and explain the functions of the bones and muscles in the human body.
